Also, Reiko took several levels in strategic badassery.

Kahn was the protector god of Outworld. Onaga called him an advisor.
But it is weird that we haven't heard anything about the Tarkatans yet. I wonder if we will see any centaurs, too.

Probably, but the snippet only showed that Goro obliterated his head.
Gotta wait until March 11th for the print issue #3. Gonna be worth the wait.
Reiko was a character that I liked a lot, and seeing him as a badass tactician (one of my favorite roles for a character in most stories) makes me WANT him in the game. The lack of new costume putting him in the same category of deconfirmed Hsu Hao or Mavado makes me worry, but it would be awesome to see him in the game.
He is a character that could have a part in both the netherealm war and outworld's civil war, something that some playable character's can't say.
That was before his lesson in humility. After that he started to apreciate that kind of values (the punch his father part was even before he got to be one of Shao Kahn's generals, current story is after Shao Kahn's death).

Shit is heating up now.
- Erron Black lives! Now let's see if he gets to do something or just play mysterious goon for a while. At this point Reptile has more dialogue than him, how embarrassing.
- Reiko's cunning is really fun to watch. I really don't care for him, but he's growing on me.
- Goro is a fucking beast.
- Still want to know what the fuck happened with Cassie and Jacqui.
- Rain being useful for once.
- Also I find it interesting about Kotal's people and sunlight giving them strength, and darkness making them weak. That Raiden intro with Kotal about Thunder blotting out the sun now has context.
- Where art thou Fujin?

In just 2 chapters, this comic has done for Reiko what Nether Realm failed to do for him in about a decade and a half. They made him a character worth giving a shit about. Yes he's had his fans before this, but now he's a character to be respected in the universe.
They certainly play up his intelligence and make you believe that he could be one of Khan's top generals.
This is certainly the best representation of Goro we've had in a while as well. MK9 didn't do him any favors.
The mention of Rain was appreciated. Even though we don't get to see him, having Reiko put his powers to use effectively was an appreciated call out to the fans. Same goes for Movado, and the idea that the Red Dragon now has the Lin Kuei cloaking tech.

This comic is doing good at making every character likable, and redeeming a lot of characters people say are wasted mk characters.

Blasphemy. Dragunov and his creepy silence are wonderful.
As for Erron Black, I get the feeling (esp. from the webseries casting for "Salazar") that he's just going to be very reserved.
---
On another note, about characters' costumes in the comics, I wouldn't get too hung up on somebody not (from the start) wearing a new costume.
I believe Kittelsen said (via Twitter) that certain characters might not be drawn in new outfits depending on what part of the timeline they are located.
Ergo, it would make sense that Kenshi wouldn't have some crazy new costume 3-5 years after MK9 if he is going to disappear until a decade or more later (when Takeda is an adult) with a completely updated costume and being middle-aged, if he did end up being playable in MKX.
We still don't really know whether all (or certain) veteran characters will have young/old costumes, anyway.
---
On another note, Kittelsen has said that this issue is 10 years pre-MKX, and that Mileena probably isn't going to be a drooling idiot again.

I actually completely forgot about that quote but you brining it up has reminded me of it. This is actually great news, seeing as everyone (myself included) has been judging a character's confirmation based solely on what they are wearing in the comics. Shit, this means Fujin, Reiko ect all have good chances now! You know what this means, right?

So this Outworld Civil War so far is:
Kotal Kahn
D'Vorah
Reptile
Erron Black
Ferra/Torr
and
Reiko
Goro
Mileena
Rain
INVISIBLE RED DRAGON
SHOKANS
I'm feeling bad for Kotal Kahn already. I have a feeling that the heroes (Kung Lao & Kitana) would probably side with him and bitch D'Vorah and Ferra/Torr would betray him. The Black Dragon might side with Kotal Kahn because they obviously won't side with the RD.
Also I'm liking Reptile a lot more, he has more character and dialogue. This story isn't becoming a matter of Good/Evil anymore I see. Kind of reminds me more of some of the uprisings that have happened these last couple years in North Africa/Syria and is more a matter of different set of values. I could be looking too deep into it though.
Anyways. Intriguing stuff. I'm more interested in the Netherrealm War though...

It would be really badass if next issue just when Kotal "Kamidogu" Kahn and his army is preparing for battle, Reiko is telling instruction and then is like "BRB, have to prepare myself for battle" and then he comes with a brand new awesome revamped armor and Shao Kahn's hammer and everyone reading the comic screaming full of hype with his revamped look confirming him into the game (with "turn down the beat" resounding in everyone's head in that moment)....
(And then next issue he is totally killed and we're like... whooooops...)

Probably my most favorite chapter yet. Reiko is badass and needs to be in this game with Kahn's hammer in one of his variations (though, Goro might be the one who possesses the hammer now).
Can't wait for the fight between Kotal and Goro.
