This just seems so childish to me.

They do MK vs. DC and a bunch of people whine about it not being M rated. So what do they do? They respond by swinging so far into the M rating it turns the whole thing into Saw and robs it of everything that made MK fun to begin with.

Not at all. Everything nowadays needs to be realistic. Everyone complained about the story and how it went nowhere. Sure, some people wanted to see where it could possibly go, but I was one of the people who didn't care to see where it went. It was stupid now. Mortal Kombat needed a reboot like this.

This is exactly what I was hoping for.

"Everything nowadays needs to be realistic"? Are you serious? I play games because I want a break from the realistic.

I have a feeling now I am going to be disappointed by the game. That trailer was so dope that I have little faith that the team is actually doing something that cool.

It is too good to be real. Its gotta be fake.

What about Threshold? I have thoughts that maybe they are going behind backs here like Patrick said on Twitter. Who knows? At this point anything is possible. Its definitely a new approach to the franchise that is for sure. I am with you with this decision,I am going to wait this out and see what the deal is.

I think it's a bold direction and my first viewings of the trailer I thought it was a bit eh. But the more I watch it, the more I like the brutal-ness of it, the fact its dark, and the fact that its so out there it reminds me of my parents first thoughts of the orignal MK being 'out there and too violent.' I think if this is the direction they are heading in it has MUCH MUCH more potential than a race to the top of a pyramid for god-like power or a crossover with underwear-clad superheroes.

Seriously I do love it. I dont want old MK to die permanently but lets have some major new direction.

Oh my god the amount of complaints that are being made... What kind of a game are you guys looking for then if you don't want the total darkness or whatever the hell it's going into? Be thankful that something is being made anyways for MK rather than not having anything at all. This is at least a start if this clip is to be somewhat associated with the next game.

You guys really complain too much about things that shouldn't be complained. I know I'm gonna get a lot of back talk about it, but seriously... It's something different that we're going to experience, and majority of you guys are again, not going to be satisfied with what's going to happen with the next game. Exactly what do you guys want in this game?

God DAMMIT. They Twisted Metal Black'd MK.

"Everyone said the story was cheesy" my ass. Some of us DIDN'T want a goddamn reboot.
But if this is the franchise from now on, I give up. Apparently I was wasting those 18 years of my life I spent enjoying the fantasy and comic book aspects. What I really should've been looking forward to all this time is a story about cops and serial killers. Yeah...y'all have fun with that shit.

Most of these people seem to be throwing praise at it. If the minority is the one complaining, leave it be.

So where the original Mortal Kombat was basically "Enter the Dragon + Big Trouble in Little China divided by Star Wars " this new Mortal Kombat shall be "Enter the Dragon + Saw divided by The Dark Knight

Okay...so Reptile's just a nutso with a skin disease and Baraka's a surgeon (try to say that aloud without laughing) who's into self-mutilation. What else can we expect?
I got it......Raiden will be a disgruntled electricion vigilante. Kung Lao will be a recovering alcoholic street bum. Kitana, Mileena, and Jade will be prostitutes who work for local drug lord, Shao Kahn. And 5-1 odds Quan Chi will be, in essense, just like Heath Ledger's Joker.

If this indeed the next game, I can officially say...with confidence...this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

There's a difference between finding a new direction and abruptly swerving the plane into the nearest mountain.

The general userbase on this site amuses me.

We get a game pairing Scorpion and Batman and despite the fact that MK was heavily influenced by comic books and also featured superhero-like characters in fanciful costumes fighting each other with magic powers, people cry foul.

Now we get a video that couldn't be further removed from Mortal Kombat and amounts to a "gritty" crime drama with what looks like no sign of any of the magic that was a key component of MK since the beginning...and people love it.

Talk about ass backwards.

You want to know what kind of game I want? A game that doesn't cut out everything that made MK what it is. Sorcery, Kung Fu movie flair, and characters that aren't just freaky nutjobs but actual monsters and immortals.

One great thing about it is that it's a tournament again. I missed that aspect of the game. Isn't Mortal Kombat the name of the tournament? It's good to see that back!

Can't wait to fight Reptile at the bottom of the Pit!

Normally I'm not a fan of giving stale franchise the "gritty" reboot...

... except in certain cases, like this.

I love the fantastic, fantasy-based MK stuff as much as the next person, but over the years it has lost focus on what made it stellar, which was that it started with a realistic approach with a slight touch of the supernatural. Most of the characters were human and there were a few "freaks" in there as well, like Reptile, Scorpion, and Goro. But over the years, it became an endless joke of lack-luster characters, a ton of different realms nobody cared about (like Chaosrealm and Orderrealm?), and a plot that spiraled wildly out of control and ultimately imploded with MK: Armageddon.

This is a reset/reboot I've found myself suddenly and passionately interested in, restoring the shock, awe, and uniqueness that's been sorely missing for years.

Of course, I await with the others to see if this is going to be a movie or a trailer for the actual game, but I can't say I'm disappointed at all with some of the casting decisions already. Michael Jai White is an amazing martial artists and actor while Jeri Ryan looks like quite the dangerous and respectable Sonya Blade.

I do hope there are some supernatural elements, but that they're subdued. The freakish white eyes Scorpion has seems to confirm this, but we'll see.

Overall, I'm excited about a MK property for the first time since before Armageddon was released.

I agree with every single thing you said, couldn't have said it better.
I havn't logged on MKO for like 3 years or so. I really am excited about MK now.

Amazing, thank god MK is no longer at Midway.
Can't wait for E3!!

Of course I'll let it be, but I just think it's funny how there are still complaints and yet we asked for change big time with this game. This kind of change should be good enough at least for that "change" we ask... Otherwise, what is there else to do?

Bingo.

I never asked for any big change (at least not in the game's personality department, gameplay is another story). I was perfectly happy with MK vs. DCU. The characters fit together nicely. This...like I said...it isn't MK. If it's just a one off Elseworlds then fine. But I don't want this to replace the MK of yore.
