Reposting my theory from the other thread like an excited child:

I Wrote:

Top left, top right: Kung Lao, Kung Jin, family

Second right, second left: Jax, Jacqui: family

Third right, third left: Sonya, Cassie: family

Fourth right, fourth left: Kenshi, Takeda: family

Fifth right, fifth left: Kitana, Mileena: Family (technically)

Sixth right, sixth left: Scorpion and Sub-Zero - mortal enemies, traditionally


There's not too much going on on the bottom level:


Bottom left, bottom right: Shinnok, Goro, MK4 boss figures.

(And if you wanna be funny, second left, second right - Kano, Quan Chi - both previously played by Richard Divizio :p)


But there are SOME relations when considering adjacent characters on both levels:


Sonya, Johnny: family

Kitana, Liu Kang: Often paired together as lovers

Scorpion, Ermac: Ninja subgroup

Sub-Zero: Reptile: Ninja subgroup



It'd be impossible to directly tie absolutely everyone together for every case, but there's an obvious intent going on here IMO.



Only person without any possibility of a partner is Kotal, whom the ? block is immediately above.

Remember that Trophy/Achievment "There Is a Ruler?" Remember whose armor was in the image?

Emperors adjacent, perhaps?

I wouldn't say with 100% certainty, but fucking so much is building to it. Ermac has his soul. His armor is in the Netherrealm. They seem to be trying to grow him a new body.

One thing's for certain: If it ain't Shao Kahn, I'm pretty sure that ? block is reserved for whoever DOES become Emperor.


If anyone sees any other parallels between characters in terms of their placement, hit up this space.

After seeing this pic, all I can do is hope for a secret 3rd row, or a hefty amount of dlc in the future. There are some really good choices, but too many bad/redenudant choices on the roster.

Just now saw the select screen and I thought the exact same thing. The character placement is very on-the-nose.

I am really excited about this game but the roster does seem a bit unoriginal. I love that we got a good amount of "ninjas", some of the best newbies ever, and most of them are looking amazing! But the amount of family members, resurrected characters and special forces is a bit overkill. Oh well at least I got Mileena and Tanya. If Fujin and Rain make it, I will be a happy camper!

So disappointing. I expected so much more going into this next generation of gaming. These new systems are so powerful and we get a roster of this size? Come on. For this size of roster, you would expect a more diverse group than this. A little more exciting than the family reunions.

Still hoping for some surprises on release day & krypt. Is it confirmed there is a secret unknown character still? And hopefully a second round of DLC. Only 2 DLC characters would be a complete joke after what Injustice received. Either way, DLC still has to be added to the screen(though sadly probably under Goro(I hated what they did in MK9 hiding them under Cyber Sub...was cheap), so we shall see.

This roster sucks goat bollocks!!! Everyone is fucking related and fucking Kung Lao and Johnny Cage are gonna be in-laws! WTF is this shite Boon?! No Daegons no Argus no Rains no Brakas!!!??? Well at least we have Tremor.

Don't get me wrong the guest are great! BUT Tremor is my main focus for dlc. That's the main course meal for me dlc wise!

So, can the speculation be over? this is the final roster, no third row nor ultra secret unlockcable. Disappointing as it may be for some of us this is reality. Just let it sink in. At least pretty much every other aspect of the game looks amazing and appealing.

Except variations. I'm severely let down by the roster and the variation system.

I think fatalities look great, stages look great, and DLC looks like it could be half great.

Brutalities I am not sold on, the force fed online component is whatever, and I haven't seen a downloadable skin that I am even a third interested in.

I'm trying to simmer on some of this. I just need something to make this right for me.

Yeeaaaa...we're in for a surprise on the roster. Shadaloo's (very nifty) observation was the intended joke. There's 26 slots there...DLC is one thing but, we know there's more characters than that.

Where's Fujin?
