When they no longer appear like their palette swap look, I'll be satisfied.

If they were palette swaps then they'd dress the same but with different colors, which they clearly don't anymore. Just cause SOME of them have a few design aesthetics that are the same doesn't mean they are just clones. There's a clear difference now, and it's your fault if you can't get over it. The palette swap era finished around two decades ago, people need to move on and understand that there's originality in these characters now.

Exactly, I don't know why he can't understand what pallet swap means and how this doesn't pertain to them now. Oh no, they have the same colors as 20 years ago and they still have masks! Oh dear! He's literally the only person i've seen complain about this. Tells me it's just bias toward the characters as a whole. I even listed how nearly all of the "ninja" characters in MK9 didn't even have their old look to them. Masks and loincloths is all he has on the designs, along with a few having the V chest. In the only case really being Scorpion, Subzero, and Smoke (who is a Lin Kuei so i'm sure a lot of other members wear mask, got a loincloth, and have a V chest design). The girls have loincloths, Shao Kahn does too, Kung Lao, Tanya, Raiden, Baraka, Kabal, Kano, I could probably keep going and list a few more.

What I like about the fanart piece is EXACTLY because it has a complete different vibe than the whole MK ninja one. It's unique and different from other MK characters and I think it fits Ermac alot.

The same reason you still refer to them as ninja, its just a word to classify them there's a long history here, but that's besides the point...

Completely changing a character's appearance with the reason simply being "I dont like them" Is a poor excuse. You don't just go from looking like a mystic "ninja" with middle eastern influenced design to Scarecrow straight out of Batman for no reason.

Not liking a design is the best reason to change it! Why stick with a design you don't like? That's just plain silly.

Then you didn't read the rest of my posts or you misunderstood me. I want the characters to step as far away from that past look as possible, but they still have elements from that look whether it is masks, V-vest or loincloths. When those elements are no longer in their designs, then I'll consider their appearances for unique, but as long they are in their designs, they are still connected as the palette swaps they USED to be.

This is just my opinion though. It's alright if you guys disagree, but there's no reason to get all grumpy about me having this opinion. :P

I don't like Jade (False) let's give her armour and shave her head for the sake of it. That's different! (I'm exaggerating here, but see what I mean?)

I also find it Ironic that you love both Tanya and Jade's design which have deviated MUCH less from the female "ninja" look than the male "ninja" have.

All of the characters derive from their old look. What the fuck are you talking about?? I seriously don't get why you're calling that group of characters not unique even after MK9. I just listed how many character have loincloths, so that argument of yours should be thrown out. They all have masks, okay..and they all have their old pallet swap colors..again..okaaayyy...I really don't understand what you're getting at because it's so fucking stupid. You see how many people disagree with your "opinion"? It's because it makes no fucking sense. You're just talking out of your ass at this point. You think they should step far back from their old look? Well take that up with the designers who think they should have a mask, and should have the loincloths. Seriously AGAIN, ONLY Scorpion, ONLY Subzero, and ONLY Smoke have the V-chest in MK9. Reptile does as his alt, but who fucking cares that much??? They don't look a thing like their past selves. If you can't see it, you're a fucking moron.

Well, first of all, there aren't 10 characters in the MK roster who appear like them. Second, I like their looks. ^^

It would be so much easier if you simply said;

"I don't like the male ninjas in MK, but I like the female ninjas."

Because at this point, that's what you're saying.

Well, first of all, there aren't 10 characters in the MK roster who appear like them. Second, I like their looks. ^^

This just makes you look like such a fucking hypocrite. You don't like the MK male ninjas because you think they all look the same (even though the art team's main fucking goal was to not make them look the same, which they fucking succeeded at if you ask me) yet you like the female ninjas because of the way they look, even though they are just as much a palette swap as any of the male ninjas and have less development design wise than all the male ninjas COMBINED. In every game the female ninjas appeared in they have looked near enough the same and have changed very little to the point that the male ninjas are now more developed than they are. It would be so much easier if you said you didn't like the male ninjas but you liked the female ninjas, because then you wouldn't look like a hypocrite.

It's a change, but hardly different than the other skimpy dresses with a tiny bit of armor with the gold trim and its still got the loincloth you so much despise. The only difference being the lack of mask, which doesn't make that much difference. It was a start for them to change things up, but they flat on their face straight after and continued hardly changing anything.

I know you're trying to knock me down with this 'amazing' rebuttal, but it's hardly a variation on anything she's had. You're still a hypocrite.

Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Tanya, Khameleon, Skarlet all derive from the same look...That's about as much or close. And like I said, they've all deviated less from that look than the males have...

I like the female "ninja" looks too btw....But your constant clamouring for individuality from the male ninjas commes of as hypocrisy.

Which is funny, because none of the "female ninjas" used to have loincloths back when they were palette swaps.

Anyways, you and Mobster are tending to unnecessary name-calling now, so I'll just stop responding to you guys. :/

I'm only calling you what you're being. I gave you how many examples from MK9 that the "ninjas" as everyone calls the group of classic pallet characters are different. How they have deviated from their swap looks, other than the mask which is needed for them, and the loincloth which I named about 8-10 characters than have a loincloth. Scorpion and Subzero need a mask, as does Noob because he's old Sub, so does Smoke because he's Lin Kuei, Reptile because he's an assassin henchman, Ermac which has his head wrapped, no V chest and a loincloth. So seriously, stop with your opinion because even opinions can be stupid and wrong. They can looked down upon because they truly are bad.

Sticking my nose in this, I do feel like the female ninjas have deviated more from their original looks than the male ninjas.

To me, the males have kept their same overall look thru out the game but have gotten more detailed as they have progressed which makes them unique. Their most unique parts of their costumes are their mask and headpieces, IMO. Which is the opposite from the females. Their masks are all similar, but their hair, and overall costumes have progressed further from each other than the original onesie leotard of Kitana and mileena.

Good point.
Also, as Kitana, Jade and Mileena are all Kahn's assassins, it's understandable if they are sharing similar uniforms - kinda the same excuse people use for the Lin Kuei. And since MK9 was a look back to the past, it is excusable to have the palette swaps share appearances.

But hopefully we will never touch that part of the MK history again, but look forward and have each character find their own unique style, like many started to do in MKDA-MKA.

As Scorpion and Sub-Zero keeps their original look, I can see Kitana kinda doing the same and she kinda has (though her MK9 outfits were rather different), while Jade and Mileena should go back to their MKD main outfits which were wildly different to the one-piece leotard.

I also think that the team tries to make the male ninjas unique as possible, but may be afraid to go to drastic like they did with Mileena and Jade (tho it turned out for the best) in fear of a negative reaction from the hardcore fans raging about changing the character. I think they have more freedom with redesigning the females.

My favorite male ninja design tho was one of Rain's conceptual alternates where he was shirtless underneath and had a long braid. That costume was perfect. It was totally different from any of the other ninjas and was the most successful attempt at a redesign IMO

That was my favourite Rain look as well! I was so disappointed with Rain's look after I saw the other concepts. For a palette swap look, Rain's in-game look is neat with the design and all, but there were so many other damn good designs that deviated alot more from the palette swap look, and I wish NRS had taken a chance with those instead.

But alas, like you said, the "MK ninja" fans are alot more close-minded and would probably rage about it... though Rain's fans seem to be a bit more open-minded.
