JOhnny and Sonya actually survived MK9, i would find them redundant if they played like they did in MK9, and with Cassie aboard, but the article says they'll get different moves as they story progresses. So they only conection they'd have is blood, why did nobody complain about UMK3, or MK9 having all Kitana, SIndel, and Mileena?

Sonya and Johnny don't sound unnecessary if "apparently" they're central to the story.

Don't lose hope, dude. The 24-character roster is STILL a placeholder. 7 characters out of POTENTIALLY 30 isn't that much.

Why waste roster spots on Sonya and Johnny Cage when they already have Cassie Cage? Why is the story so focused on them? Bland as fuck.

I was fine with Kano being revealed and even Liu Kang apparently being back, but why is it necessary to have the whole fucking Cage family in the game? I want to feel hype for this game, but holy shit...

Eh, I take that back, I didn't mean to call them "unnecessary" , I just personally don't like the idea of all three being playable characters with such a limited roster space is all. It's disappointing for me that the very few returning characters won't be surprising, but extremely predictable. I was hoping for some surprises like Mileena or Ermac or Kenshi at least to really spice things up. Kano and The Blade Bunch isn't exciting to me honestly.

This i can agree with, they're the same characters that always show up in every "start fresh" game (MK4, MKDA) but i wouldn't call them predictable considering i didn't see Cage, Sonya, and Liu all coming back this time around.

But i'm hoping for Kenshi, and Tanya.

Hoping to see Seido Cage in action, please NRS it would be a badass development for the character! Let his "still young" gameplay variation have the cocky stuff and put the seido focused moves on the veteran variation :D

I'm with you on the whole Cage family ordeal but at the same time, they wanted to give someone else the spotlight besides Kang, and Sonya and Johnny are the most likely/popular contestants.

But why is it too important if they're a family or not? At the end of the day, the article says that the "aged" verisions of Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade, will play very differently than their previous incarnations. So them fighting similar to Cassie isn't the reason.

I'm hoping to see something along the lines of Seido Master Cage and Veteran Blade and I'm curious as to what they're older incarnations will play as. As for Liu Kang, I want to see him burnt, scarred, and a bit renegade from his past experiences and see his interactions with the rest of the heroes over the next 25 years. However, I guess he won't be a boss...unless they make him a playable boss and have one of his incarnations be his boss form.

So, if information presented in GamePro is true, then what does it mean?

It seems MKX is seemingly will be MKDA 2.0. Old characters in MKDA were represented mainly by people from the original game, and it seems it's the case with MKX. Though, if early rumor about "8 old characters" is true, it does mean that there will be very little place for anyone post-MK1, which is odd, considering, that many of people's favorites come from those games. However, it could actually gave definitive reason why so many fan-favorites were killed in MK9.

I am glad that Cage and Sonya are in. I am glad that story will be about them and not about bland no-name in-your-face protagonist like Shujinko or Taven. On the other hand, I don't see if I want them playable, since we already have character, who in many repsects represents both of their fighting styles (Cassy Cage). I am not sure if NRS will be able to make Cage, Sonya and Cassy distinct from each other enough, without making them seem like semi-clones. Of course, after MK9 I have a lot of faith in NRS ability to create unique gameplay for their characters, but it is something completely new to MK to have three related characters, with one of them being an amalgamation of the other two gameplay-wise.

As for Kotal...it's all quite strange. I think he will be Kahn's son in "spiritual way" being as cruel and ruthless as him, rather than being his blood related offspring. It'll take quite amount of hoops to jump through to explain, how and why Kahn's son is sun and blood god. I wonder how Mileena will figure in the new story. She and Ermac are only character from classic games who I really want to see in this game. Of course, I'd like to have Sektor, but I think his chances are next to nothing.

Liu Kang was really expected. I just hope he won't be zombie ressurected by Raiden this time around. It was lame in MKD, and it'll be lame in this game. I think, he will be based on Bryan Tee's Liu from MK Legacy 2.

And Sub-Zero is shapes to be a new character. Good.
It's also gives possibility to the minor loophole, that'll allow another classic character in the game. If NRS considers this Sub-Zero as a new one, then there is another free spot for the character from the past games.
