It would be nice if these polls revealed the vote counts

i voted for kabal because i never cared for jax. also i always wondered how did he do that saw blade move. that move was great.

i would of voted for mileena the last round but wasn't able to go on the polls, forum, or even log on. i'm just now able to go back on this site. kinda sad to hear she was eliminated but it's only a silly contest.

This is priceless. It's funny to see how some people take discussions on the internet to heart when it's not even about them at all. Hate me for whatever reason, it's not affecting me at all, there are good people on here who I like discussing MK with and as long that is, I am sticking around. Don't like it, then too bad.

That's just fanboyism 101 right there. Hilarious stuff. Didn't know I was that infamous amongst some people on here though. It's almost flattering.

However, this thread isn't the place to discuss these things. PM me if you want to confront me, to openly display your dislike for another member on this forum is just tasteless and trashy, and then it doesn't matter who it is.

Just to defend myself, then no, I wouldn't make several accounts on here just to vote on my fave character. It's just a silly little unimportant online poll on a fan-site, why would I want to cheat just to make Jade win over someone else? I am actually surprised she won over Mileena, because Mileena is awesome and I know she has alot more fans than Jade does, but I guess there are people on here who may not be fans of either who simply chose Jade over Mileena for whatever reason. There's just one thing to do about it... Deal with it!

It is also worth noting that the mods on here can easily see if someone makes several accounts on this forum and can therefore cancel your vote in the poll if you abuse it like that. The mods on here (though I've had some disagreements with them in the past) are some of the coolest mods on any forum and they know what they are doing. I'm sure they wouldn't allow anyone to make several accounts to vote on certain characters here, so to say otherwise is a ridiculous notion.

Oh look, Kabal is winning over Jax. I voted for Kabal, that must mean I made several accounts to make sure he won then, huh?

Can you think of any other fighting game character that is covered in burn scars, is part of a gang, uses hookswords, sawblades and plasma fireballs and has supernatural speed? Coz i cant...i was never a huge fan of Kabal or Jax but i can see why ppl would prefer the first.

I haven't had much time to post, but I've been considerably active on the polls, even taking to logging votes on my phone while at work. To say I was hesitant about this idea in the beginning is an understatement, but it has been fairly surprising to see no flame wars have broken out just yet. What will be truly surprising is if there are no flame wars in the next round, when the prominence of the winners escalate even more.

I reeeeally don't wanna see Scorpion or Sub-Zero making it any further than they absolutely have to. They've been shoved down my throat so well, they're still stuck there.

- Li Mei over Quan Chi
As impressively cunning as Quan Chi is, and I do give him credit for that, his portrayal is so cartoonish that I just autonomously roll my eyes anytime I see him. His "evil laugh" when speaking with Raiden in the Netherrealm sums this point up pretty nicely... This is MK, not Cartoon Network.

- Darrius over Kitana
I knew I'd be in the minority, but I had to. LOVED her in MK2 when she had that mysterious appeal and dangerous vibe, but I can't stand the "princess" of today. If there's one thing I hate more than cartoonish characters, it's a one-dimensional "goody-two-shoes" personality.


- Rain over Blaze

- Tanya over Sindel
While Sindel has seniority on her side, she's had a progressive effect on me similar to Kitana. I absolutely loved her in the game in which she was first introduced, particularly because of the "vibe" of the character, that witchy/supernatural/goth mix we'd never seen before. Then she became good, and the portrayal was quite stale. Now she's evil again, and the portrayal is still stale. She's like a female Quan Chi with a badly-written power-up late into the story. She's just turned me off, and Tanya kind of won me over when she got Liu Kang killed in her MK4 ending. Plus, the bitch has potential to be more than a backstabber if they spend more than half an hour on her story.

Nightwolf's recent portrayal was somewhat likable, but Kenshi's character has more selling points, at least to me. I like the "blind swordsman" pitch, and how the sneaky bastard used the Outerworld Investigation Agency to chase a personal vendetta. *Homer Simpson voice* Why, you little!!!

- Reptile over Ermac
Ermac's all visuals and a substandard "Wow" factor. In trying to make him look and sound "ZOMG SO BADAZZ" in MK9, they erected yet another one-dimensional lackey. Not to say Reptile isn't, but at least in his case it's not such a storytelling tragedy. The possibilities with Ermac are so great and so unused! Imagine how being composed of so many souls, so many lives, so many thoughts into one could torment a person's psyche, even under a "magical spell"! But NOPE, "YOU ARE BUT ONE, YOU DIE NOW!"

- Baraka over Khameleon
- Cyrax over Hsu Hao

- Smoke over Sektor
Both are riding on fairly tacky gimmicks-- smoke and robot, namely-- but I voted for Smoke based on his past. The unwilling transformation into an automaton programmed to hunt down his friend was a very cool twist.

- Shinnok over Drahmin

- Liu Kang over Hotaru
If it had been before MK9, I would have voted Hotaru in a heartbeat. I could never stand Liu (see "princess" Kitana). This time, however, while he still did maintain a notable portion of what made him an annoying hero in the past, he showed much more of a personality than I expected, and him standing up to Raiden at the end after going through so much pain made me somewhat enjoy Liu Kang (never thought I'd say that). Hotaru, well... yeah.

- Goro over Motaro

- Sheeva over Kintaro
Don't really see why Tiny from Crash Bandicoot won... Sheeva may have been portrayed as a bit of a punching bag, but at least she formed concise sentences and showed traces of charisma, which is more than I can say for the Outworld housecat!

- Sonya Blade over Jarek

- Havik over Noob Saibot
What's Noob's appeal here, people? I think some of you might be getting too caught up by his flashy "shadow moves"! Noob could be such an interesting fucking character if they (see Tanya) spent more than half an hour on his story! The guy was turned into a wraith, an abomination of his former self, and then actually finds and has to confront his brother!! Can we see some damn emotion?? NOPE! Evil lackey! Can't talk! Gotta go! At least Havik's predictability comes from an interesting origin!

Mileena over Jade
I really like Jaded, always read his posts, and props to him for the campaign for Jade, and while Jade WOULD win in my book over many others, I simply couldn't support her over Mileena. My first Fatality was Mileena's by accident, and that was when I found out she was a fucking monster - the "HOLY SHIT" factor of the time is indescribable, suffice to say I still remember it to this day. Her gimmick is, well, a gimmick, but it's pretty damn cool! And then her portrayal in Deception pretty much made the game for me. There's just too much of a bond between me and this ho, and I'm kinda sad-face to see her go.

And finally,

Jax over Kabal
Kabal in Deception was nice, but that's about it for me. The super-speed thing bothers the shit out of me, because it makes no fucking sense. Oh, "Outworld Magic"? Really? It gave you superspeed, of all things? It's just so obvious they came up with the power first, THEN tried to work in an explanation, that it just bugs me! I mean, REALLY? Whatever... Jax's portrayal in MK9 was a highlight for me, and his friendship with Sonya introduced this heartwarming bond between two characters that you just didn't see anywhere else in MK, arguably EVER. I am a HUGE fan of solid storytelling, so when a character brings something to the table that makes the story multidimensional and not a Saturday morning cartoon, that's huge for me! I really hope he doesn't get knocked out of the competition "cuz Kabal can runz fast and iz kewl!"


I'll try to contribute in the form of posts as much as possible from now on so I don't have to shove something this huge into everyone's faces at once, just to share my thoughts!

It means he's tired of seeing two iconic MK characters being so popular and wishes a bunch of forgetable nobodies to win.

Since MK1, those two ninjas are what makes people turn their heads and recognize Mortal Kombat. You'll never see some one like Li Mei or Kabal on the box cover of a main series entry game.

Scorp and Sub are here to stay. Just like Ryu and Ken are here to stay. Kazuya and Jin are here to stay. Mario and Luigi aren't going anywhere. Don't like it? TOUGH.

It means he'll be damned if the two most famous, beloved, popular characters will stay famous, beloved, and popular on his watch.

Still don't know where ppl r getting that mileena is more popular than jade. Better story yes. More popular, I don't think so.

We get that you think Scorpion and Sub-Zero are over-rated. It was kinda obvious. You're not the first and you won't be the last. I really don't understand people that think because they dress their opinions up in a monster rant, it somehow grants "diplomatic immunity' from being called out, disagreed with, or just plain made fun of it's an opinion based on shaky reasoning.

I also don't get people that think if someone vehemently disagrees with an opinion, it must be because they simply don't understand said opinion. Uh...that's not how life works.

You mean that thing that hasnt been updated since one year? Please...I see more Mileenas online every day than all the Jades i have seen since i got the game. Mileena wasnt a popular "choice" in the beginning since she was one of the characters you actually had to LEARN first! Mileena is a beast in tournaments by pro players, online she was and still is useless by noobs who spam her specials which are some of the most punisheable in the game. All you had to do was block and punish...have you seen any Jade player go far in any tournament?? All two ones that is...lol. So dont mistake yourself, the fact that it is easier for noobs to win with Scorpion/Raiden/Cage/Sub Zero doesnt make Mileena any less popular as a "character"! She still is one of the most popular and recognizable ones...hell she is the poster girl of the series nowadays! To say that JADE is more popular than her is seriously a joke! It's like saying Noob is more popular than Sub Zero. I could understand ppl arguing over Mileena and Kitana who has actually played some part in the story...but Jade!?!? Really?? And I actually like her as a character but lets be realistic here.

I dunno, I think that "overrated" is kind of a loaded word here. I agree that they get more attention than other classics like Rayden, Sonya, Shang Tsung etc, simply because of how immediately recognizeable they are to the gaming world as a whole. The yellow ninja and the blue ninja.

But you're saying that two of the faces of MK since the begining shouldn't make it far. That's your opinion and you're obviously more than entitled to it, but you should know that there are others that have been saying that as well (perhaps a bit more adamantly as well), and that overall sentiment might be rubbing some people the wrong way. Perhaps you were getting some of that residual backlash? Who knows.

Either way, I'm also hoping for an unpredictable finish, which is what I mainly took from what you were saying.

I'm happy to see Fujin take an early lead, however I predict him ending up somewhere between 35-40% of total votes in the end.

People, don't forget Raiden messed up big time in the story mode of MK2011 and he deserves to be punished.

Wow, now things are getting interesting. Jade over Milleena, Kabal over Jax and could Fujin possibly pull the biggest upset of the tournament so far? Way too early to tell, but it's interesting.

Personally, I voted for Fujin. I just think that he has a ton of untapped potential. His look needs to keep evolving, but it definitely got better in MKA. Wind powers are a bit tricky, as I'm not sure how you develop those, but I guess the same could be said about lightning.

Either way, he has the ability to step up and become a major player. I like the idea of him taking over as protector of Earthlrealm, or perhaps having an entirely different role in the next game. I see a ton they can do with him.

As for Raiden, he has one of the best looks in MK. He's probably the most recognizeable character next to Scorpion and Sub Zero and MK3 felt rather empty without him.

But honestly? I think he's kind of plateaued as a character. The fact that they had him head down a bad road in MK:D, only to walk that back like it never happened in MK2011, then turning him in to a bit of an idiot in MK2011... I just think he's lost a little of his luster.

It's close, but to me, Fujin's potential puts him past what Raiden became in MK2011. So yeah... I choose Fujin.
