Reptile is the only character that I prefer with the palette swap. The new MK 9 version is my favorite. My second would have to be his MK:SM look. The loose wrap mask showing his mouth was really cool.
I absolutely hated his MK:DA look. His story is definately what draws me to the character so I do respect the design, but I don't prefer it.

I just really wish his human disguise LOOKED like a disguise, that you could TELL there's something not quite right when you look at him.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? 'Cause, I mean, that was a comedy.
But I seriously do think Reptile could look pretty creepy if his disguise skin was clearly peeled off a human victim. (Though I'd actually lean more towards the color-changed scales approach from SM because I think it would be easier to accomplish, there's less ways to mess the idea up in the execution)

Well, since we've already seen that there are multiple costumes used in story mode, maybe everyone can get what they want.
Fans of human disguise Reptile will get to see that on Shang's island when there's actually a point to it. And afterward they use the model we've been seeing all this time (for reasons of making him easier to identify).
I think I'll go for the color changed scales, myself, since that would be the easiest to justify alongside his invisibility techniques.

Yeah changing his color in green or just giving him the lizard head like he had in his moves would take space...
Truly that's BS.
It is just color changing. They colored Noob black. Why not Reptile's skin dark green + the head that he had all the time
In the movies and all other shit he was potrayed as human ninja covering his reptilian race... But now... he is showing his bird form
Sorry... noob and Ermac became much more interesting than him and Smoke will become that as well.

You can scratch out that movie statement now. It's a movie, not the game.
Of course, they would've kept him as a human appearance: 1) that's how he was in the game and they wouldn't change it at that point, for the fans, 2) did you see the TERRIBLE special effects of him as a reptile? Why wouldn't they have kept him as a reptile if it really looked that bad. That movie would've gone from interesting video game adaptation to SyFy Channel/Asylum Pictures JOKE, i.e. Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus.
The bottom line is that the palette swaps were boring, lazy, and a restriction based on memory. It's not that MK takes more memory than other games, but they were cartridge games. they couldn't handle having so much gameplay, so many stages and so many characters. They just couldn't do it.
Now they can, and they have. For those people that didn't know the backstories and just want to play a fighting game, Reptile was just a name given to another guy that looked just like Sub Zero and Scorpion. To many casual players, that portrays as laziness.
Reptile is a different species that just looked human. Since MK4, he's looked like a different species. He's Saurian, not human, and he should look Saurian. Even if he's "in disguise" there should be aspects to distinguish that. Otherwise, it's a little lazy.
MKSM/MKA was his best look. Looked ninja, looked reptilian, looked different (but not as different/retarded as MKDA's alligator look).
I'll say, at least some people have the dignity to let things go rather than try to start shit up again... Even if things did head into a more private direction.
I forgot the username, Emperor...something, Kahn I think... anyways, he drew what I thought was an interesting look for Reptile, having a more cobra look. I really liked that look for him, even if it was fanart.
You guys should take a look at that, it was pretty awesome.

I am in love with his new MK9 look! One of my mains definitely. I can see him being the Voldo or Zafina of MK9; they have strange gameplay but once you get it down they're UNBEATABLE.
I really also enjoy your idea though Razor. As an alternate he could have a human outfit, but the human outfit is clearly a face that he took from someone down at the bottom of the Pit. Now THAT would be awesome.

Well, the eending in particular that shows that happening isn't actually canon, but let me take a crack at answering.
As Razor mentioned earlier, one of the reasons that they had Reptile go through his transformation in the first place was as a sort of preparation for turning into the Dragon King. Maybe his and my ideas on the matter are actually the case to an extent. Onaga manipulates the body that would come to be his vessel by transforming it into something more fitting of his form. Meanwhile, this kinda drives Reptile a little insane, so when everybody's wondering what's going on and there aren't any other Saurians to ask, the answer his warped mind comes up with is something about being away from the matriarch of his race, which makes little sense but fits with his long held desire to see his race back in its former glory and having been deprived of that. So when Onaga's spirit was drained out of the body in that ending, so too was his transforming influence, allowing Reptile full control of himself once again, which lets him be a pallette swap again.
It's a theory that probably isn't true, but that's what I've got for you.

Oh wait...yeah...whatever happened with Onaga??? I don't understand that whole story-arch completely.
I'll say, at least some people have the dignity to let things go rather than try to start shit up again... Even if things did head into a more private direction. Believe me, I was NOT trying to start shit up again. I was trying to show (with comedy) that fighting is a waste of time. Even on the internet. What better way to do that then to say "Hey, who really gives a shit" with a little funny picture to go along. It's a shame you guys fight, you 2 are some of the more smart users.
Lets all have a laugh and shake virtual hands, eh?

The more I see this new Reptile, the more I like it. Still not as much as the human disguise ofcourse ;)
This screenshot of Reptile vs Sub-Zero is very cool, and very bloody. If you look close, you can see that Reptile's mask is badly damaged. His mouth is completely visible.
http://images.thekoalition.com/2010/12/pax01.jpg
This makes me wonder if that will happen to the human ninja version of him. That would be very cool if it did. What do you think? BTW.....originally I thought he had a bird like face because of the mask, but it was just a broken mask that I was seeing. The mask usually fully covers his mouth.

well actually they mention that he is reduced to a feral state from prolonged seperation from his kind. but mkda is my favorite reptile costume and shaolin monks costume is my least. i rather enjoy the decline from human-looking to weird mk4 snakeman to full out biped lizard monster. it makes sense to me that as his mental condition worsened he gradually gave up disguising himself.

I like this concept too actually. Think about it...
"When Reptile spits acid or whatever, just have him...tear the human flesh off temporarily."
I think it's a wonderful idea. I also think it's another example of the MKTeam toying with the concept early on, but never fully realizing for the disguised version of Reptile. I don't really fault them for it because it's not something that's common sense. But, I think they missed a chance to have a nice little aesthetic detail there in not doing something like that based on the original concept.
I'd definitely do it, NRS.

As much as I didn't care for it at the time, I've come around to his Deadly Alliance look. There's something about a giant lizard wearing a vest that just works.
I like his MK4 and Armageddon looks most, non ninja (mostly) and not human looking.
Perfect, I hate all his human-clone costumes, that is just silly and boring, its a lizardman, not some horrid human, we have enough of those already, if you like humans go play sub-zero, sonya and jax will ya.
Ow and Icebaby think she is a godess or something, she can do everything and other can do none, really irritating, she is the reason I hate smoke, I am a troll and everything, she creates trolls, really. All the boys just agree with her because their dicks tell them too.

I'm sorry but I have to 100% disagree with that. There's NOTHING about a giant (alligator) wearing a vest that "just works."
It makes me think of Wally Gator (even though he just wore a shirt collar, it's the same principal)

What are you talking about? Icebaby is the reason you hate Smoke and you're a troll because she made you one?
No no no. You're a troll because you made the decision to be one. It stops there. People can inspire feelings, only you can create them. People agree with her because she's poses the more rational, well thought out posts. Where you come across with little to no argument to back yourself up and scream like a banshee when no one agrees with you.
If Icebaby is such a problem for you then maybe you should just avoid calling her out. Seems like every thread you post in you're making some mention of your hate for Icebaby or Smoke. Starting these arguments just ruins the thread. Just ignore her if you can't handle it or scream at her in IM's but for the love of all things forum related stop trolling.
