It's a joke. I'm telling you now, this is way too soon after the audio leak to be legitimate confirmation, they lost out on way too much hype yesterday and are making up for it by toying with the fans about guest characters. MK vs DC was one of the worst in the series, I think the lads at NRS know better than to dabble with outside characters. They wont soil a comeback game like this by introducing outside characters, it wont happen.

One or two guest characters and jamming an entirely different universe into your game is not even in the same ballpark.

Might be a DLC spot, i mean technicly they have to add someone in that spot for free which means he's in the game, but for DLC only for ps3. Maybe for xbox it will be gears of war, since ed twitted about how cool it would be for a gears of war char to be included.

I know, The majority of the first page is all about Kratos, whereas the leak had much more relavent info and is way more interesting than the Kratos speculation

I'm pretty happy about all the leaks so far. Every character I've hoped would be in it is there(aside from one which I pretty much figured had no chance in hell).

Frankly, it doesn't surprise me. It seems to be the trend for fighting games to add a gimmick character. Soul Calibur with star wars/comic books/other games, dead or alive with Halo. I think even clay fighter had earth worm jim back in the day. I wish they wouldn't bother but in the end, I could see the marketing technique for attractiving new fans.

The most we can hope for is they don't do a Soul Calibur 4 and stick Yoda's big ugly mug as the biggest thing on the front cover. I also hope his picture would appear in the DLC section of the character select screen.

On a side thought, if Kratos is indeed in it, I could imagine Quin Chi's role would be somewhat downplayed due to their simular apperances.

Also Ramm is more popular than Kahn.

What if they put him in like a rotation spot like in trilogy where you had both the classic raiden and mk2 raiden in the same spot. then maybe he wouldn't take the place of another mk character.

It doesn't bother me that Kratos is in at all. I'm just glad my two favorite characters are in and both of them look good. But I will feel bad if one of the classic MK characters spot gets taken because of Kratos. At least he''ll make a good training dummy.

As I said in the other thread I'm sure that Kratos will be DLC. For Batman:AA's exclusive joker it was DLC. It's a method used to get people to get their PS3 online and spend money at the store. It also helps games companies fight off the used games market as the DLC is one use only. It's used for many games especially special editions. Based on history, Kratos will be DLC.

I can see why some people are upset but some of the reactions are just plain stupid. The "I'm not buying the game because Kratos is in" is one of the worst. You're obviously a MK fan and are excited for the new MK as you're on a MK site in MK forums. Would one character really stop you from buying the game? No, if you're that interested you'll buy the game anyway. Stop acting so immature. The responses that put down someone or put down their being a fan of MK are also silly and uneccessary. People will have different opinions, get over it.

I myself am happy to see Kratos in MK. I would prefer it was MK characters only but am happy either way.

I have reasons to think he'll be a great addition:
-he's not in the story mode and won't affect canon storyline
-Kratos suits the franchise in terms of violence and dark tone
-he's an extra for PS3 owners
-Kratos is a great character and will add to the game.

I do see reasons why people wouldn't want him in like:
- in a return to MK's roots Kratos just feels out of place
- him being there will ruin the immersion of the game
- he'll ruin and cause problems with tournaments
- only on PS3 and you own a 360
-he could be taking up a place of another character

As I said above he'll be DLC. So there will be a choice to download him or not. He'll be hidden in the DLC select screen so he won't ruin the immersion. His inclusions could could cause problems in tournaments but a decision will be made one way or another. Sony have probably paid WB or NRS to gain exclusives. Microsoft started this trend with the GTA:LCS DLC, Fallout 3 DLC and COD DLC it's only natural that Sony will do the same. The biggest problem is if he takes up another characters slot. Nothing can change this if it's true and it's a shame.


All I'm saying is I don't think it's such a big drama. Many people have over reacted to the news. Most problems can be easily fixed. Hopefully NRS learn from the shitstorm this has created and make an option for Kratos to be turned off or disabled in both offline and online.

I don't normally weigh in now that I have my own site, but 6 pages later, we are still complaining about extra content. In an age when companies are LITERALLY nickel and dime-ing us over gameplay, (Capcom DLC), recycled content (Activision DLC), and embellishments like costumes and music and voice packs (japanese DLC) that could all have been completed in time for release. Really, a sad day on the internet.

There's no anti-kratos argument that makes sense.

1. He doesn't fit - Well, neither did Batman, Shazam, or Joker, and we all got along just fine. 3 million copies fine. Shit, broken and boring as it is now, cats are STILL playing MKvDC casually (see: this forum) and seriously (See: NEC/MKU in general).

2. He's a dumb character - A worthless, subjective opinion and C/Khameleon, Daegon, Kira, Dairou, Tanya would like to have a word with you. See how easy that is? He's violent, he's half naked, he's got two swords, and he uses magic powered by the gods. Does that not sound like 75% of the kast?

3. It's not really MK with guest characters - Other things that weren't really MK until they became MK: digitized graphics, 3d gameplay, air combos, living johnny cage, konquest mode, death traps, dead liu kang, combo breakers, dial-a-combos, a centaur, animalities, mini games, pro moves, parries, Sub Zero's scar, a lack of john tobias.

4. He's taking someone else's spot - Oh, so you saw the design documents and know the proper cast list? You know for sure that Kratos bumped your character? Are you sure NRS just doesn't give a shit about your character this time around? See also: Kano in MK2, Scorpion in MK3, EVERYBODY in MK4, Liu Kang in MK5, EVERYBODY in MK6, gameplay in MK7 (oh, snap), EVERYBODY in MK8. No guest characters there, next?

5. It's about the money - Maybe it is all about the money, but MK has never had a problem making money. NEVER. Maybe they just thought it would be cool. Do you know why EVERY feature to date has appeared in an MK? Because Ed Boon / Co thought it would be cool. Watch an interview, watch ALL the interviews. Its all they ever say. Why did we do Create a Fatality? Because we thought it would be cool. Wii motion controls? because the wii is cool. MKvDC? comics are cool. Reptile? Because green scorpion is cool. This is not to say a lot of shit isn't about the money. MKA was about the money. But sometimes developers put shit in their games because they think it is cool and they are still human beings who try and enjoy their jobs, see: MKvDC.

6. Competitive complications - Really? 20+ totally unique characters for the first time in series history, and ONE guest character takes the whole thing off the rails? Rails which ANY tourney player will tell you MK was unfit to ride on since 1995. . . 1995! Anybody beating this drum is VASTLY over stating the impact of guests on the SC2/4 tourney community (I know, I was in them) and banking on a scenario that does not exist anymore.

This isn't '96 where nobody knows anything about a character until a tournament happens. If somebody finds some crazy Kratos shit, and you're a TOURNEY LEVEL player, you're going to know about it the next time you log onto SRK, EH, MKU, or whatever your training ground of choice is. Getting bodied by a "surprise" Kratos will be no different from getting bodied by a surprise "any other member of the cast". And shock and awe,iIf Kratos has some REALLY TRULY crazy shit that you somehow just have to experience first hand to understand (a first for MK) go and find a PS3 to play on. They aren't unicorns, you know.

So either
A) ban him. Done. Shit gets banned all the time, characters, techniques, whatever. Nobody gets their panties in a bunch. Nobody turns over tables cause they can't use handcuffs in TTT. REAL tourney players will just say whatever, and roll over to whatever else IS allowed.
b) allow him, because who gives a shit. If he's broken, its no different from any other broken shit in any other game. (See: MvC2)

I think thats it. Really. I am disgusted at my brothers in fandom. So you don't like Kratos. Fine, you don't have to pick him. That's why its called the character selection screen, not the character forced to play screen. Do you like EVERY other character in the MK Mythos? You like Daegon and Blaze and Meat and Reiko and Tanya more than Kratos? Get over yourself.

I'm really not surprised. With all the lame decisions they made with the last game, this seems quite plausible to me.

I think Kratos is an absolutely boring character from a design and gameplay point of view. He's got nothing cool to offer. Jade or Smoke alone can outclass him in those departments.

I'm hoping that he's just an optional DLC character and not part of the initial disc-based roster, cuz that would just be a disgrace.

I also don't understand how they're going to incorporate him into the story. Unless this will be MK meets GOW, at least to an extent, he simply won't make any sense unless the story ignores him completely and he's placed on the roster as "just for fun."

Oh well. We be powerless. Complaining won't help. All we can do is hope he stays away this reboot.
