Is anyone really going to buy this game now that Kratos has been confirmed that weren't already going to buy it before? I mean really?

Nope.

I came. Twice. I love GOW, and I love MK. So, this, for me, is a dream come true.

I bet the plan is that Microsoft will now throw piles of money at Boon so they get an exclusive character as well.

I don't get why this is such a far-fetched idea. I bought SCII because of Link, and multiple people on Kotaku said MK is now on their radar because of Kratos.

If that is the ultimate reason, then it doesn't matter what they're saying at Kotaku. Kotaku could be building pipe bombs in rage right now, and it wouldn't affect the sleep of NRS. I'm operating on the assumption that this is all for sales.


If you're arguing that sales aren't relevant and Kratos is good because he adds something positive to the game, then I simply disagree. Even if the versus and online modes aren't part of the narrative, they are interactive elements derived from the story. Kratos fighting Cyrax on the pit is going to screw up the game's artistic atmosphere. That's a bad thing.

If someone doesn't care about story atmosphere, then I don't have a counter-argument.


If Soul Calibur's story wasn't a joke, I'd would have been more angry about Link, Spawn, etc. I'm a Soul Calibur fan, but Namco has not put proper effort in telling a solid story as Boon/Tobias/Vogel have done with MK.

is it just me or did kratos say get over here while pulling subby away? i really don't want him to have the spear though. i own a 360 but it still pisses me off. this is a tribute to MK not god of war. ed boon needs to stop being stupid. (omg maybe he got replaced with a mentally challenged clone after mythologies came out!)

I bought SCII for the GC instead of the PS2 because of Link. Because he's motherfucking Link. God of War is a comparatively new franchise and I have to wonder if it has the rabid fans that a Nintendo mascot has.

Same goes for the Star Wars characters in SCIII. They'll jizz over almost anything that has to do with their fandom that doesn't mess it up.

Well, the God of War games have been selling millions, and Kratos is often considered up there for a Sony mascot. Plus, this VGA reveal is bound to get many people's attention. Hell, I saw in some posts over the trailer, they were worried Kratos wouldn't work in MK's game engine, not knowing the massive improvements.

Let's face it, even though MK's well known by almost all gamers, many don't keep up with the times. They need little things like this to grab their attention.

Even still, I don't care if he's there for money, or because Boon likes him. I want to play as him because I like Kratos. And he fits in the MK type of world. As long as he's well designed, I'll be happy.

Kratos is just another reason for even more people to pick up the game.

It's not about sales really... It's just an extra plus for people outside the core of the fanbase to get an MK game.

I think ever since MKSM & GOW1 this has been speculated on. Those games had alot in common... they even played similarly. Neither franchise is hurt by this, and I think even if we look from the core GOW fanbases' perspective that hate this idea just as much as some of us don't like it....

It does make enough sense to have happened.

Now, my question is:

Kratos makes alot of sense for the PS3 people, Who will the Xbox folks get? Dante? Nah... too new.

But its really ridiculous that people are getting this bummed out over fucking Kratos.

And if the inclusion of a guest character, who is not even going to affect to story at all is killing the game in your eyes then..............Damn that is one sad excuse.

I'm not too excited about this news, but I realize that it is a smart marketing move by NRS. The only way I could see this actually being an obstacle is if they try to give Kratos a story that ties in with the MK universe. Someone said that they confirmed that this will not happen, so I don't see why the decision is so bad. It will help sell games and boost MK's reputation.

I definitely think the "ZOMG this game sucks now!" posts are an overreaction, but I would warn NRS not to take it any farther at the risk of upsetting the very "fans" they said they are making this game for.

As a 360 owner, I'm fine with no guest characters, but it didn't upset me in Soul Calibur.

Gahhhh, I really hope Mortal Kombat grows a damn identity and doesn't turn into Soul Calibur. I would say I hope they learn to take their game seriously and fuck off with console exclusive characters, but I don't want guest characters in my version so...

Kratos isn't going to sell games in any meaningful way, MK fans are going to buy it with him in it or not. I'm as big of a god of war fan as there is, I loved the first 2, paid $100.00 for the collecters edition of GOW3 only to be let down HUGELY!! Honestly nobody is even talking about GOW3 anymore and it came out this year! It does not hurt to have Kratos in but it doesn't really help anything either, he's not in the story mode so his inclusion doesn't hurt the game at all but to be honest I'd much rather they just spent the development time on another MK character that can be shared on both platforms. I said this before and I'll say it again, to me putting Kratos in just feels very "me too" being that he's already appeared as a guest in another fighting franchise.

Agreed! The only problem I have with Kratos being in the game is that I worry he's gonna replace a REAL MK character. Ex: Rain, Sheeva, etc. But if that ends up not being the case, then I welcome Kratos with open arms. Alot of the people on this forum who are complaining about Kratos and it not being pure MK, are some of the SAME people who welcome a SFvsMK game?! He doesn't effect the story what so ever and you're not forced to play as him, so what's the problem?

it was good. kratos should of had on another outfit. seems like a gow3 spin off......and kratos would kill scorpion and raiden and all the elder gods. dude is natural born god killer. thats why they didnt put his ass in the story...lol....mk fans would have really been PISSSED!!!!

I keep watching the thing (of course, I always do this), and they both look like beasty dragons in their own rite.

I'd root for Kratos to win a fight vs Scorpion but even considering all the stuff Kratos has gone up against, he ain't got nothin on Scorpion. They're pretty similar characterization wise though.
