Look at the comments. That doesn't look like an angry mob that doesn't want Kratos in the game to me. Though I guess they don't matter since they don't post on MKO.

Also not to be an ass, but Kotaku has many more members than MKO. Which group is the smart one to market to? A small group of people who will buy the game almost no matter what, or a larger group of people who haven't had MK on their maps in years?

The only problem with that comparison is that the audience in that video does not represent the Mortal Kombat community and MKO does. If I was sitting in the Dr. Phil show, I'd have to clap and cheer for whatever passes by. Its just the way it works.
I base my statement on the fact that this website is a representative sample of the target market that WB is aiming for. And lets be honest; the majority of the (Mortal Kombat) fans didn't want Kratos in.

YAWN....
Absolutely boring video.
I totally agree with queve. I've just had it with all this repetitive Sub/Scorp crap.
And Kratos just sucks. Lame design, uninspiring weapons/abilities, eye-rolling personality....
I think this is a good marketing technique, but I hope they don't start pretending this is MK vs. GOW. As if Scorp and Sub aren't boring and overused enough, I pray they don't act like Kratos is the third face of MK from now on.

I'm with Garlador about the marketing effectiveness of Kratos, but even that aside, in order for this "MK needs more dough" argument to work, it's not good enough to show that Kratos will sell more copies. You got to show that WITHOUT KRATOS, the franchise will not be successful with the new installment.
If that latter point isn't true, then this whole Kratos plug boils down to nothing more than WB greed.

Doesn't change the fact SC2 (the one with the 3 varying exclusives) was still at EVO. Kratos isn't going to hurt MK's chance, at least not in my opinion. The quality of the game is still the most important factor, and that won't change due to Kratos.

I'd put money that Kratos will either be banned or the Xbox version will be hosted.
Also, EVO wasn't nearly as big of a deal in 2003 as it is now.

Thats how Kratos always looked, hes always had those weapons. And you have not seen his game-play so you cant judge his weapons/abilites
You saw like a 10 second appearance from him how can you judge his personality.

While I could understand this character as a story-alternative or DLC, if Kratos' appearance in any way affects the true story of this game, then I rest my case and any hopes of Mortal Kombat resurrecting...

To Garlador
Well yes obviously I would by GoW4 for Kratos and not an extra but maybe the inclusion of a familiar face from another franchise could veer people who are on the fence about purchasing the game towards buy the game.
And to Demon_0
We may be the more vocal group, but we are also the minority. It's like for Call of Duty: Black Ops on the quickscoping issue, the more vocal group wanted quickscoping to stay the exact way it was or like how it was in Call of Duty 4, but the majority thought that quickscoping was a cheap tactic. Sure, they weren't as vocal on the issue but since they were the majority, Treyarch listened to them.

It's long been confirmed he's not part of the story. Which is why I don't understand why people have a problem with this. He's there just for fun.

Why can't it boil down to the MK team liking GoW, or vice versa?
Also, why do they have to show that it will be successful without Kratos? Whose criteria for a good game is this? Cameos are FUN, well at least to everybody but ridiculously hardcore fans I guess. I loved how Altair's costume was in MGS4 and the reason I bought Soul Calibur II was because Link was included. I suppose these cannot stand on their own because they feature cameos?
Portal 2 wins game of the year
@SegaManiac they're probably talking about his personality in the God of War games, I sincerely doubt his personality is going to deviate from that much if at all.

It was always about reaching to a wider audience. If it wasn't, they would have kept the game engine the same. They're going after many new people. The fighting game fans are going to enjoy the new engine, for instance (or at least, several I've heard from seem decently impressed).
Of course, the return to M rated, gore up, and retelling of the first three games is for the Old School fans.
It's not like Kratos is going to be in the story mode (I want a DLC What If Story for Kratos myself, some epic cutscenes to go along with it), so it won't hurt. If you don't want to play as him, don't pick him. Don't ruin things for those who do want to play him by being so bitter about it.
I can't wait to get my hands on the game...so many years since I last played a game in this era (need to re-buy the classics).

I already posted on the facebook post how I feel about this. I see some of you have reposted what you said, so yeah.
I would've waited to post about this here tomorrow, but since I'm in the computer lab at my university (laptop shit the bed), I'll give my thoughts. First, let's look at some people who are happy Kratos is in. (From Facebook).
Awesome kratos is in now why not add dante???
cratos well yea i think its ganna be sick bekus hes like crazy and i hope hes moves on mk better be awsome
I'm crying now and OMG like this game is just complete now.... Perfect.
I vehemently disagree with these people. MK shouldn't have guests characters, in my opinion. Besides, I was looking forward to this game recreating the atmosphere of the first three games. Really unfortunate. I hope he doesn't end up taking a spot away from a real MK character. Some other people in the other thread were saying he was DLC. I see nothing to confirm that, and in fact to me it sounds like he is going to be on the regular roster (for the PS3 at least).
