Ehh make it a white top that doesn't cover up her whole chest..just the cleavage and we're golden.
It can even be torn in half showing the cleavage as battle damage.

this is a REBOOT. people are bored with sonya because she's too cookie-cutter good girl and boring looking at times.
this freshens up her look and makes her look much more intriguing to non-boneya fans.
she looks badass now. this makes the DC costume look preppy and took underdog like. she looks like a force of nature.

I for one didn't want a reboot. We've already seen so many remakes of past stages starting with MK Deception ,MK: A and MK: SM. Isn't about time we move on from MK1-MKT games. Up until now Sonya had a primary miltary look, which always looked repectable. Like Kitana and Mileena , I won't take her seriously as a character in this game, like she once was.
This new outfit doesn't fit well with the Sonya character. I don't see how NRS is doing MK1-MKT justice, by making female characters completly out of character.
One as note, where are people getting the idea that Mileena liked using her body to get men? Hell it wasn't untill Mortal Kombat Deception that she started wearing those sluty outfils. Back before Deception, she and the other MK females had style and substance. Therefore , why in the heck does Kitana and Mileena look like they do in this game? Its so silly that the MK team has screwed over some some of the greatest female characters, just for more appeal to the young boys. This isn't doing justice of how characters where represented.

She looks better with that undershirt, but I'd have the mid-section covered up a bit more and have some short sleeves, maybe even with a U.S. flag on one of the sleeves. It would be nice if the vest actually covered more to give that sense of protection, but whatever...

Well I never really post on here, but I've been a member for years and years and years and I lurk.
Let me just say that I am so excited about Sonya's new look. She has always been my favorite character. I am loving the vest, the cleavage, the pants, the hair... all of it. And yeah, it may not be exactly practical for her to have her tits all exposed, but oh well... this is a GAME. I'm a hardcore fan like all of you, but honestly, chill out. This is a game with fictional characters. And maybe I can say that because I am loving the look. Sex sells, and I can be a whore.
But nevertheless, I am really digging everyone's upgrades. I've never really cared for Jax, but his new look and feel are intriguing. And the same can be said about most of the characters that have been released. I am loving Cyrax and can't wait to play with him.
This is a new Mortal Kombat, and I respect the team in their decisions and ideas. I have not been disappointed by what I have seen so far. This is all very exciting and I can't wait to have my hands on the game.
Back on topic - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sonya's new look and I can't wait to play with her. She looks edgy and revolutionized. Major props to the team for making her look AWESOME. Can't wait to see a high res render. Only thing that I can nit-pick about is that I really like the hat she wore in MK4. I thought that was a good touch, but I'm digging the ponytail. I hated her soccer mom hair from DA.
YAY I am excited. And I'm glad that Queve got to post first on this because I think he might be a bigger Sonya stan than me. Queve, I believe that I read you got a PS3 a while back. When the game comes out, we have to play online together, k? Don't forget about me.

Not impressed -_- at all.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyhow!!! Gotta agree with most users, she NEEDS a top underneath the vest!! She looks like a blonde Kira!! SUCKS! Someone did a photoshop correction of the pic in which she wears a green/white top, she would look PERFECT like that!!! And yes, SHE DOESNÃT FEEL LIKE SONYA AT ALL!!! Ià ̈m so sick and tired of watered-down or unfitting versions created by designers that really canà ̈t connect or understand her character. I respect their work, but they fail soooo miserably to portray her (and others) that they have slowly killed my interest in the franchise!
I LOVE the gloves (just like her MK3 days), and the pants looks good (wish they would remove the knee-pad thingys)!! I wish the green was lighter, but it also looks good as it is!
The vest just doesnÃat suit her AT ALL!!
Wish the ponytail was higher and her bangs fell from one side of her forehead only -think Kerri Hoskins!-.
Not very excited about the design, though it does look better than games before. At least she LOOKS like a woman!!!
At this point, I really don^t expect too much from the MK Team. If they are gonna do such drastic (and boring, sexed up changes), then I HOPE, BEG AND PRAY the alternate costumes will do hommage to their original counterparts.

Okay, I add some minor additional ones here. (just 2) The first is of course from MK9. The rest in this case have under shirts. The second shirt, is more inspired from MK3 with a darker green. The third I'm sure where I got that one from, it was just there in my head. The fourth is more from MKDC, but without the sleeves. I also had planned one inspired from MKSM, but my Photoshop was crying, so I dropped it for now. IMO, I don't mind if she had an undershirt or not; I'm still gonna love this game regardless. I only mocked these images here so at least people can compare what they wanted. Plus I'm bored, so I might as well.

To the people saying Sonya has few-to-none design elements that carry over from game to game and make her obviously Sonya, I slightly disagree. She does have a few. Her looks are not even remotely as consistent and iconic as the ninjas, it's true, but she's always had a few specific things:
1) She is, of course, the only blonde woman in the MK universe to date. And she wears her hair in a ponytail in every game except MK1 and MKDA.
2) She almost always has something on her head. In the vast majority of games, it's a black headband. In MK4, she wore a black hat. In her MKDA Alt and MKvsDCU, a green beret. I would say the lack of a headband or hat of any kind is the biggest factor that's making this Sonya look too much like Nina from Tekken or other fighting game blondes.
3) Green is of course her signature color. Between "Mortal Kombat", "green clothes", and "blonde hair", that's really enough to tell you a character is Sonya if you see any given picture of her. She wore predominantly green in MK1, 3, and 4, and a green jacket in MKDA. Shaolin Monks deviated a bit, but camo is almost green. (And personally, I've always liked the slightly loosefit camo best for her as opposed to the tightpants in every other game.) Usually she's got black and white as secondary colors. The lack of any white is one of the problems with this outfit IMO. For me, it's not just that an undershirt is the biggest thing this costume needs to be better because there's too much cleavage, it's that specifically a white one is needed, to also add that color back into the wardrobe.
4) Bellyshirts. She's showing off her bare arms and stomach in every single appearance. (And in two games, thong straps peek out, and in one the thong is gone but the tanlines from it remain. I would actually like the thong to become a consistent recurring element, I get that some fans think it's slutty, but I like it because it reminds me of the green underwear-outside-the-pants from MK1 but in a more modern, non-goofy lookin' way, AND it stands out as something that people actually notice and remember about the character's clothes, which is exactly what she needs more of, even if the memorable elements are disliked ones.)
5) Belts around one thigh, particularly two on the left. (though the first time it was used was one on the right in MK4) This is a much newer addition to the overall Sonya iconography, and most people probably don't even notice or care, but I appreciate that they're at least trying to be consistent at one thing. On the subject of very small details, I like that dogtags and a utility belt with some sort of badge for the belt buckle have carried over from MKvsDCU to this game. I hope that becomes recurring for all Sonyas from here on out. I also hope that thing that looks like a badge on her chest is indeed one. Any little thing that makes her costume identify her as on-duty for the Special Forces (or OIA depending on the game) more is good.
Anyway, as far as this design goes, it's got problems: the head and arms are just plain boring, and we've all pointed out the cleavage is a bit ridiculous for the character, too blatantly "sex appeal just for sex appeal's sake". But I think it's too early to judge the vest or pants because we can't see the details and I still maintain they may in fact be much more detailed and interesting than we can see from this tiny, low-rez shot.
And as far as Sonya not being military enough, you have to keep in mind that the Special Forces in this universe are NOTHING like the real life army. This is a completely fictional specialized, almost mercenary unit akin to comic book and cartoon characters, so a much more casual dress legitimately makes sense in that context. Hell, after MK3, Sonya and Jax form a whole new agency, which for all we know doesn't even answer to the U.S. gov't since it seems to have worldwide oversight. It's more like Nick Fury and SHIELD.
Would I like to see Sonya wear some camo and a headband or beret? Maybe bring back her MKDA jacket? Sure, that can only be an improvement. (although in this case, the vest seems to fill the jacket's same role, just without sleeves)
Do I ever expect in my lifetime to see a Sonya that has a long sleeve shirt and/or her belly covered in her Primary costume though? Absolutely not, and that doesn't bother me at all. She doesn't actually have a job that requires fatigues and a helmet, her universe's Special Forces are more like some sort of superhero-FBI than soldiers who go into warzones and fire rifles from foxholes. Again, think of SHIELD, not the real world.

The Fourth was Exactly what I was picturing (minus the minor thing with the boob belt or whatever it is being over top the white shirt) Thank You Cliffhanger!
In my opinion the white top brings out the green in the outfit more. Now say if the white undershirt was ripped as Battledamage then we'd see the original with white tatters too.

You're probably thinking more of the OIA. And that isn't formed until after Kahn's invasion.
As of the first three games, she's still in the US Special Forces. So I'd like to see hear wear something more appropriate, along the lines of a SWAT uniform, like in the first movie.

Thanks to queve that she linked this thread to NRS and Hans said they are reading it.So they have got our opinion.Listen to it or not it is up to NRS.

Because Sonya is the second of those things, not the first. And her fighting style is heavily reliant on gymnastics and high kicks.

This thread is a mountain of a mole hill >>
I don't like the costume.
I don't like the costume because it doesn't look like an outfit Sonya would wear. It looks like an outfit Kira would wear. Sonya and Kira are at opposite sides of the MK spectrum.
She looks better with an undershirt
She looks like an actor in a bondage porno. I mean giver her a whip and some knee high leather hooker boots and NRS could make the leap to main stream porn.

In the paragraph you quoted, I wasn't talking about the OIA, I was talking about the MK universe's version of the Special Forces. We've see her team in comics, we've seen her and Jax in the games. They are not the real world Green Berets. They are a unit of G.I. Joe lookin' dudes where sleeveless shirts are common, the guns shoot laser beams, and bionic arms would fit right in.
And in the real world, since when does the ARMY hunt ganglords like Kano? The Black Dragon's not a terrorist cell, they're not an army themselves, they have no affiliation to any country, it's like the idea of the Green Berets going after the Yakuza or the Mafia. Does that happen in the real world? I've never heard of it. Pretty sure that sort of thing is for cop organizations like the FBI and Interpol in the real world.
So obviously, MK's Special Forces is not much like our Special Forces at all.

Since this storyline takes place starting back in the MK1 timeline, then what we could have is a casual outfit involving a tank top or a t-shirt (both of which cover most or all of her belly) along with relaxed-fit pants. It's a simple look that could cover those areas. For a character like Sonya, it's not that hard. The problem here is the mindset that the designers have with her and other female characters.
Like I said in that other thread, you could have Sonya with a casual outfit that goes more for her hand-to-hand fighting situations and a more formal outfit that really has that soldier feel to it. Think back to the MK1 movie where Sonya is in a formal uniform on the hunt for Kano. While it may or may not be 100% accurate to what real soldiers in the Special Forces wear, it fits Sonya's character. Then we have her in the fight scene with Kano where she shows more skin by wearing a tank top and shorts. Sonya had that same combination (different colors) in MK: Annihilation.

Then we have her in the fight scene with Kano where she shows more skin by wearing a tank top and shorts. Sonya had that same combination (different colors) in MK: Annihilation.
Okay, I can agree with all of that.
It's just that the way some users talk, they want her to dress in full fatigues like a Call of Duty character. And that would just be outright silly and impractical in the environment of Mortal Kombat.
Heavy bulletproof gear and long sleeve shirts/coats and shit like that might work for Stryker because he has always been the realistic human, "odd man out" character, the one with no abnormal skills, no experience fighting monsters, and the game he's from wasn't a tournament, he was just trying to survive in the streets of a post-apocalyptic city. But the Special Forces characters are more agile and special and suited to kung fu.

Last one...Far right. Maybe try one where the white shirt has those really short sleeves that girls always wear.
Thanks for the visual.

EDIT: Just some stuff I found googling a second ago...
One - Some real Isreali women soldiers off duty. Looks like this Sonya, without the jacket, if she had the shirt.
Two - Don't recognize this character, but something like that for an alt for Sonya would be sweet too.
Three - From the neck down, that would not have been bad to get closer to for Sonya.
Four - WITH the shirt. Don't tell me that ain't sexy...
Five - WITH shirt, No Jacket.
Six - Virtually the exact same look we have in Sonya's current design....WITH the shirt.
Seven - COME ON! Really? lol
idk...
I wonder whether Sub Zero got the same kind of thing when he started making a feature of his manboobs in MK3.
"OMG Sub Zero isn't that kind of guy! It's more of a Johnny Cage kind of outfit. It's not practical for a ninja to show his flesh. A real ninja wouldn't want to give away his position and would wear dark clothes at all times to blend into the shadows. Real ninjas would be faster with smaller manboobs, and in the field, could survive on smaller rations!"
