I may not agree with all of your opinions, (almost all of them, actually) but that picture is probably the best I could expect for the MK2011 Sonya! It kinda gives me a Motoko Kusanagi vibe, but less robotish.
I still think this argument is silly though... Sonya's a hot blonde with armyish gear that's not realistic to her job. I don't think anyone can disagree that they've at least got that much consistant.

I don't know why we'd settle for a bare minimum, especially in a series that should've come much farther than that in almost twenty years. When a better alternative is so easy to come up with, it just seems silly.

I don't think I like that costume, it's waayy too much for Sonya. Sonya has been known for having a tom boy attitude with a little bit of sexy, this costume is just one of those things, not sexy. Her current costume may be a little more sexy than tom boy, but it is more in character than this one. Though the design is cool.

Opinions will vary, and alas, something as simple as expecting a modicum of design sense and consistency for a character does not apply. The delirious get richer, and the jaded become moreso. Then we all come back to do it again and see who wins the crapshoot during the next game.

Is it just me that looked at Sonya's new looks and thought "Goodie, another reason to call someone 'Boobs McGee'."? I don't think that's standard Special Forces uniform.

I have to laugh when I read "I don't feel the community actively reads the messages posted by other members, at least not in full, and that's a huge problem on a website driven by its forum." Followed up almost immediately by another poster defending this by citing "phantom ultra-conservatives..." referencing my posts about the overuse of 'whore', etc. and I just have to say "Way to go actually reading MY posts which clearly you have not done if you think I'm going on some uber-liberal crusade against the evil 'phantom ultra-conservatives'." LMFAO... which by the way when asked to give evidence of the "existence" of ANY posts that used calling any female character a slut or something of that nature as its core argument I DID SO. But yes... 'phantom' ultra-conservatives IS indeed a good way of just writing off a complaint that you said I couldn't back up and I did (thus not truly being 'phantom') as well as continuing to COMPLETELY ignore my ACTUAL point. Now replace 'phantom ultra conservatives' with 'not-so-phantom uncalled-for and overly demeaning terminology over something as RIDICULOUS as uncharacteristic cleavage'. Thumbs up!
Me and my apparent ultra-liberalness (news to me... most who know me consider me overly moderate in my views) ALSO pointed out that I too think Sonya's outfit is uncharacteristically revealing but that of course was also not read or simply ignored in favor of simply brushing me off as "delusional" rather than give an intelligent or at the very least philosophically VALID argument. Perhaps you are just confused because again being moderate while I agree with most on Sonya's need for an undershirt I also feel that Kitana's outfit is, while unfortunately plain and needing more detail, still in characters with what little we actually know within cannon to be her character. I'm kind of annoyed that she appears chained in Kahn's arena but then again if it was true to old cannon it's Sonya we should be seeing there and she wouldn't look any better chained up with what she's wearing, lol. I try my best to actually cite as many facts as possible with some inescapable bias from my opinions, etc. as opposed to pure opinion but hey if you want to dismiss that and just write me off as "delusional"... ... I can't really blame you as indeed my posts are VERY LONG and most people these days have extremely limited attention spans so ::shrugs:: whatever. It's not that big of a deal I just love to point out ironies such as this.
P.S. I'm not intentionally trying to win any argument through "proof by verbosity", I apologize... I just tend to ramble... I'm old. LOL

She's anime action babe. They all have oversize boots :)
It's a fun enough costume but I think the colouring is bad and doesn't suit Ms Blade

I think the lower half is fine but the upper half should be changed. Maybe a tanktop or sports bra like she used to wear
Wow....Sonya Blade you've certainly created a record with this thread. lol.
So, I've finally read the last 5 pages (or was it 7?) of this thread.
I've carefully and through-fully read every single opinion and there's really not much I can think of adding.
I think Garlador and MrHoppyX (I agree the most with both of them), Mick, Tony, and Crow all make excellent points.
Two views that often seem to contradict each other (even though they actually agree in some of the essential) are Crow's and Garlador's, and I find a lot of truth and validity in both of them.
At the end of the day, no one is going to be truly satisfied, but, we can certainly hope that the MKTeam read this thread (Hans Lo told me they did 'cause I twittered it like crazy, lol) to capture the main ideas and opinions from the fans to help them improve and go forward on how the characters are known and perceived.
I still say this is the best Sonya we've ever gotten and she is very far from looking as revealing or "immodest" as some people make her out to be.
Like I've said before: Sonya is still the most respectable looking of the half-naked female crowd.
However, this really is the most revealing she's ever looked and the main problem about it is that it is completely and utterly unnecessary.
UNNECESSARY.
So, yeah, give her the well deserved and suiting shirt for Raiden's sake. It really shouldn't be that hard to do and it's definitely quite obvious to see how much the community would approve of it.
Sonya Blade looks badass, intimidating, sexy, and tough. She has some "fantastic" military theme going on and has been sexualized more than ever before....if it wasn't for that last part of her design, she would look absolutely perfect.
I love the color, the look, the awesome straps around her, and that sleek sexiness.
Just give her a shirt to cover that little portion of boobs that has caused such controversy and commotion.
THANK YOU MK TEAM!
LOL!
I. Love. It.
I would definitely change some stuff (show some skin in the arms and belly please, + add some straps and gears), but overall, that is one almost perfect and beautiful Sonya costume.
Excellent job!

I'm not sure if that would be better or worse... At least it'd be an idea.
I don't know if it quite fits BDSM fashion standards, but I rather liked the practical implications of Jax' MKvsDC look. It wasn't exactly how I'd do it, but it lent credence to the "GI Joe" notion of a super-cop task force. Some sort of customized version of that shared with Sonya might've been nice, then, and now. Something that gives a sense of uniform to the Special Forces, but not necessarily at the cost of individuality. Lord knows MK isn't in a position to count on grace in that department.
Adapting Jax' exo-bodysuit uniform for Sonya also strikes me as a much more natural and informed evolution of the workout spandex of the digitized era. A potentially body-fitting reminder that it's not about a clandestine ultra-conservative agenda, but how embarassingly easy it is to top Sexy T2 Sarah Conner cosplay.
Eighties hangover spandex in dowdy green and black set the bar low, but at least it had the times on it's side. I think tight pants and a tiny jacket will be easy to best if they're planning alt costumes.

I greatly prefer Mick's design here, by the way. This would be the kind of thing I'd like. It still has some sex appeal, but it isn't overly in your face. The best kind of sex appeal is the kind that doesn't just outright show you virtually everything they can (while not having to get an AO rating). It's more subtle, and I think that goes back to the days of the older Mortal Kombat games. You could say Sonya always had some amount of sex appeal, but it wasn't as in your face and over the top as it is today.

Yes.
THAT design would be something I'd be completely and 100% against.
It's not Sonya, at all.
As an alternate I can see it happening and it'd be OK (I guess). Just for the fun. However, I'd definitely rather she kept her trademark pants and modesty in good place.
The cleavage she shows in her new look is seriously not that much, and is obviously nothing when compared to how much she shows in that link you posted.
It is a fantastic and beautiful concept art picture, no doubt about it...except for the fact that she has no pants and a giant metallic thing on her hand.

I've been trying to find this magazine, but, I guess it doesn't really ship/sell internationally...or I haven't been looking good enough.

And I think we've seen that pic of Sonya kicking Kitana's butt already. Is it different? or is it just super HQ?

Told you so. People here need to stop jumping to conclusions in my opinion. Magazines overuse the word exclusive just to increase sales. Or maybe they just meant exclusive first look IN THE UK.
And to think people were (almost) angry about this whole business. 'How DARE they reveal an exclusive MK item in a men's magazine?! The NERVE!'

Absolutely nothing! part of the article says : Zoo traveled to Chicago to be the first to play this new game, set to be released in 2011. And we can happily report that MK has made a triumphant return to it's violent roots in what is its fatest and most brutal instalment to date. In the level we played, two things stand out immediatly: the return to its classic 2d fight plane- and the gore. Characters lose skin, expose eyeballs and visibly break bones and that's before the get to the crippling finidhing moves. The fatalities have never been presented in so much violent detail. The game play is top notch too with is most demanding fighting mechanic yet! And because NR has gone back to basics, it's not only revived all your favorite classic characters but also the fighting locations of the first 3 games as well.

I noticed that too, looks special forces esque, a nice homage to their real life green berets counterparts.

And to think people were (almost) angry about this whole business. 'How DARE they reveal an exclusive MK item in a men's magazine?! The NERVE!'
lol true story. Did you see the rant about it on the TotalMK Youtube channel? Absolutely hilarious, major freak out.

I noticed that too, looks special forces esque, a nice homage to their real life green berets counterparts.

Having seen more footage of Jax now, I think both him and Sonya are wearing the same type of pants, government issued I guess. It's nice that they create a link like that between the 2 characters.
Unless I'm mistaken and need new glasses.

I really do like that they did that for both of them. However, I would still spice up the pants a bit more.
I'm hoping the alternates take a more drastic and futuristic approach.

Oh. My.
This is without a doubt the best version of Sonya the team has ever come up with.

Okay first of all
I really love this Sonya look, she is sexy, looks agressive enough, it maybe isn't screaming milatary.... but that would be boring as hell. I loved her DA look and MKvsDC look, but this.......this is my absolute favorite.
What did ya'll think of her X-Ray Move?
I thought is was best of the bunch, I really liked the neck break and the bicycle kick and again grabbing by the neck and throwing on the ground.
My question is what do you all expect of her fatality?

why did someone dig this up?
Sonya looks great. I don't know about her Alt. I was wanting her MK vs DC costume but with a more feminine face.
