Mortal Kombat has been fun and childish really enough for the last ten years, that's why MK is a fucking joke instead a serious fighting game.

I could be wrong, but yeah. I don't think anyone's objecting to MK fans and their friends going and playing a few rounds of BioFREAKS or Tattoo Assassin, if they want something vaguely similar.
MK is MK, tho. yeh?? :-))))))

Yeah, except not. What the hell does story have to do with gameplay? Do you think a more serious story (assuming you consider this thing 'serious') is going to suddenly make the MK team make a deeper fighting game? Do you honestly believe the story has any bearing whatsoever on mechanics? MK isn't "taken seriously" because the fighting engine is always riddled with problems and the game just isn't as fun as other fighters once it's a few months old. Story change will not have any impact on that.

I'm conflicted.
I'm totally up for a re-imagining, but the gore is a bit too gruesome for me. I know it might be strange since most people think MK "GORE GORE GORE!!!", but for me I always liked the fact that they Fatalities were so OTT and non-realistic. Ripping people's torsos off, and pulling someone's head off with the spine attached? Fun.
Saving people's heads to munch on later as a snack? Well when I put it like that it sounds hilarious, lol, but the execution and the way it's done is the big point for me.
Don't get me wrong I have no problems with gore, but I've never associated serious, gritty, gore with MK.
It may seem like I'm contradicting myself by saying I'm open to a re-imagination then "OMG NOOO CHANGE!!!", I'm just airing my feelings. I'd gladly support a darker, grittier, version if it was made and would most likely enjoy it. An MK based in the real world with grotesque violence? Why not?
But as someone who is into the MK series for the story, characters, mysticism, and general OTT humour/gore this take is certainly different. I get that that's the point lol, I just need time to mull it over I guess and get used to it.
I 100% enjoyed the short they produced, but I'd much rather see a more mature, R-rated film that was more true to the games.

Finally got a chance to see it with sound and I must say, I wish I hadn't. Horribly overacted ('cept the guy playing Scorpion did a decent job) and the dialog lacks, well, everything. It comes across as desperately trying too hard to be cool, just like nearly every MK cutscene or movie in the past decade. It's like they took out everything that made MK good (mystical setting, mainly) and left in everything that made MK bad (terrible acting and writing).
P.S. It's pronounced "Shang Soong," not "Shang Zung"
P.P.S. They had to work in the phrase "Finish him" somewhere. Fail.

My Lord, this e-fight is still going on? I just went offline for about an hour and this is still going on? Alright, I did enjoy watching people fight an say the same damn thing, but it's just boring now guys. You both can't agree on anything and I find it a bit sad.

It's pretty obtuse to argue that a nearly twenty-year old franchise should be something that it isn't.
Exactly.. ask an ironman fan or a hulk fan or an x-man fan or a superman fan or a batman fan about smallville, batman, etc.
its not about what a minority wants, its about what would connect with a majority.. films are there to make money.. not to make just the gamers happy.. its mortal kombat.. i'm guessing you'll still see it

If that actor palying Cage is right, or at least if what hes under the impression of is legit, we will be seing this movie as he quotes "This short is only a taste of things to come."
the more i see this, the more i love it. for a movie anyways.

Forgive me, but are you not being just as rigid with your stance? I don't see much of a difference other than the fact you feel one way and someone else feels another

I don't see this really. It just seems like he legitimately doesn't care for the idea to me. You can't ask someone to like something they just don't like. Are there things you wouldn't want MK to do? I'm sure there are.

I don't know much about comics, because comics are for babies and aren't REALISTIC or MATURE, but aren't these regular references to superhero adaptations hilariously antithetical to the pro-Rebirth video argument? Most, if not all, hold fundamental principles consistent with the source material. They also aren't mutton dressed up as slightly less old lamb.

The trailer was amazing, simple as that.
People are saying 'Oh no Outworld', 'Why are Outworld characters humans? ' Baraka is a joke' .. Just chill the fuck out bro. No one is even giving this idea a chance. The game is probably not going to be anything like this trailer, since it has nothing to do with WB itself, but it should be something in which the MK team should look into. Realism.
The background story they gave Reptile couldn't have been better. He was born with a disgusting skin disease(forget the name) and was expected to live 2 weeks, but is now 30. He's 6'1, so just think on how fucking crazy he would look. Likes to chop the heads of his victims and stores them in his fridge, and when he's hungry, just gets a little bit of them. This is what Reptile needs to be, a disgusting being. He's a freak of nature, a serial killer, and is absolutely disgusting and out of his mind. Perfect.
Did anybody even think why he was able to survive his disease for so long? There has to be some sort of supernatural ability or reason to why he was able to live so long. I would love to see his background story as to how he was able to survive with his disease and cope with it.
Baraka's story is great as well. Not as good as Reptile's, but I still think it suits the character well. Crazy doctor who goes absolutely nuts and just starts killing his patients. Inserts knives into his hands, sharpens his teeth and pierces his entire face. This guy is crazy.
He also killed Johnny Cage which was really unexpected. But the way he killed him, SICK.
People are making fun of his story, with out even giving it a chance bro. I think if they develop it a bit more and explain what was going on through his mind when he killed his first patient, and see how he truly developed into the synical man he is now, it'll be sick.
Now we only saw a glimpse of Scorpion, but I can tell this guy is going to be BEAST. And Jax looks very respectable and serious now. You can tell he takes shit from NO BODY. Sonya looks very commanding, just how she should be. I like that they're part of a police departement instead of some military shit. I think it suits the storyline better.
All I'm saying is, when I picture just how fucking dark, and gruesome the Mortal Kombat tournament would be in the movie, I just get goosebumps. I can picture rotten arms and legs on the arena, blood everywhere, there's a bunch of gothic looking men/women in the crowd, blue lights/gothic club theme, some metallic music playing Shang Tsung in the background just looking. Oh man.
Just picture how the fights would take place, and how the fatalities would be. I just picture them being so disgusting and gruesome. Just think of what Reptile would do to an opponent. Damn.
And just think how the other characters would look. Imagine how Sub-Zero would look, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Kabal, Mileena, Smoke.
I'm also looking forward to them explaining just what the hell happened to Deacon City. I want to see what the people are like, what are they doing in response to fight these serial killers( Reptile, Baraka), is anyone going to try to step up, what are politicians doing, just everything.
This needs to be the direction the Mortal Kombat movie has to take. Can't fucking wait ! !

It's one of the last things I thought people would turn against, like almost near fatalities as level of relevance to fans. As a movie, big deal honestly I don't care, but for the games? People really want to abandon the mysticism that has been with MK for all these years? It might be chided when said, but that truly wouldn't be Mortal Kombat anymore. It's too crucial of an element to casually remove. I don't want my supernatural characters boiled down to crazed human psychopaths.

I don't really think people want the mysticism out of the games, my side of the discussion is merely that some sort of realism with some classic MK mythos and mysticism could work for a film trilogy of some sort that depicts the MK story and characters is a fashion never seen or heard of before. That said, I don't really expect the games to change at all, nor do I want them to.
And as for Razor; dude, it's test footage. Ever seen test footage of something before? NEVER does it stay remotely the same when you see it as finished product. This is the director's vision of a few parts of a reimagined story. Not counting you're still missing out on more than 70% of other things includings characters that weren't elaborated on besides name-dropping and backstory given to Scorpion, Jax, Sonya and even Sub-Zero.
When and even if the idea gets picked up, the producers will have a say, script writers will have a say, the investors will have a say, even the damned actors may have a say in what changes and goes and what stays the same. For all we know, Baraka could go back to being an Outworld freak as well as Reptile, or they could stay the same while any other Outworld characters could be from Outworld just to add more human-based villains.
Like I said earlier today, Dr. No from the 1962 was originally a damn monkey, look how that ended up. In The Dark Knight, the original vision was for the Joker to be captured at the end and be continued into a third part where THAT film would open up with the Joker on trial and HE be the one to scar Harvey Dent by throwing acid in his face. THAT changed drastically as well once everyone involved had had their say.
Directors can hint and allude to things without showing or saying them outright. For all you or I know, Scorpion could very well be undead. Why would he be in prison then? Hell, I don't know, maybe to move the 8-minute introduction of characters along to make more sense to the rich big-wigs that had to sit through it.
None of us know what the whole story would really be until and/or if it gets made.

Mick-Lucifer: Now I thought it was said that that video had nothing to do with the game... and it might not even be made for fucks sake so you really can't go on about how a twenty-year old franchise should not be something it is not. Now don't get me wrong, I too hope this is not for the game, but imo, it would make a cool movie. So either stop fighting or just make the e-fight as funny as it was 2 hours ago...

And this is why I'll never understand this fanbase.
A couple years ago people saw Sub-Zero staring down Batman and all hell broke loose. "MK is not kiddy comic books!" "But what about the fatalities?" "Superman wears colorful spandex, nothing like the badass Scorpion!" All presumably because they had some idea of MK as having a personality that was in jeopardy because of the crossover.
Then this video comes around which is BY FAR a more outrageous change to the status quo and all of a sudden it's the best thing ever and should be the new future for MK. All despite changing the personality of the property which is exactly what people complained about back during MK vs. DCU.
I cannot fathom how those two mindsets can co-exist. They're incompatible. There's a severe lack of self-awareness on the part of this community if they don't see the conflict there.
People who don't see this as fun and interesting are taking this 8 minute clip way to seriously. One new key thing, we have to break things down into sections, it's like we're freaking scientists trying to discover a new cure for some god-forsaken disease.
We can't just sit here on our computer chairs and enjoy this movie like fans. Instead, we have to tear things down and break everyone's hopes and feelings that finally something good came to us.
That just sucks. This clip was interesting, but after all you guys took it and debated the shit out of it, it's no longer an interesting clip to watch... At least my mom watched it, that's the only interesting part.

I'm not being rigid.. I'm just waiting for an argument to convince me otherwise to my opinion.. if there is a good one (and there have been good ones), i do acknowledge it..
I am disappointed the Shaolin may not be in it.. but you know what, I love the look and feel of the film. I love the fighting soundtrack.. it kinda sounds like an invasion will happen on the streets, but whose invasion? Shang Tsungs? or someone else? Great points DeLaGeezy, Kenshi and Icebaby too.. As for the comic movie points.. they are like MK.. its a cult thing.. my point was just to say that you will never have ever fan satisfied.
