I think conventional wisdom says that kind of built-up end-reveal is a fairly specific allusion to what we know of the Scorpion character, but it definitely doesn't excuse convoluted "realistic" (ha!) conversions of those characters, which is obviously completely removed regardless of any Outworld-magic-make-metal-not-rip-through-forearm add-ons.
Although, how the conversation got back here, I don't know.
RE: The presence of the fantastic in MK1.
Sub-Zero cryomancer; cybernetic eye Kano; fireball Bruce Lee Kang; electric god Raiden; hellfire Scorpion; sorcerer Shang Tsung; four-armed man-dragon prince Goro; disappearing Enter the Dragon island. I mean, really. The purple colour palette and knifey monster weren't exactly surprising new departures in the series canon. We already knew things were lurking in the big picture.
There are people who claim to be sorcerors in today's world.. people who study sorcery.. someone claiming to be the God of Thunder could be a lunatic too.. as for fireballs, some people grow up belieivn the internal strength and energy of a person can be projected as an external weapon

We damn sure weren't told he was a human being. He had no story at all until MK2.
This thing gives him a story that specifically says "He is a human being born with a skin condition".
You can't say "Well there is an Outworld, they're just keeping it a secret to build up mystery" when they SPECIFICALLY take Outworld characters and give them Earth origin stories right there in the video.
If the director wanted to have an Outworld, why would he use Reptile and Baraka? Why wouldn't he keep them offscreen because they're from Outworld, and have Kano be the assassin who attacks Cage in the video instead?
MK1 he looked human.. MK2 before the story he looked like a reptile.. guess what? in the trailer he looks like a reptile too.. and that he lived for 30yrs longer than doctors thought tells me something screwy is going on.
As for Baraka... Kano would have been a terrible choice to attack Cage.. Kano was never strong, that's the whole point.. he's smart, he's brainy, but he'd rather knife people in the back than take them on in a fair fight. Despite his bravado.

You completely skipped over the Baraka part.
You have absolutely zero proof this story could still have an Outworld if Baraka is clearly an Earth man who lost his mind and pierced his face all up. They even have a "Before" picture of him as this Dr. Alan Zane guy!

No there AREN'T any signs of that! That's my whole freakin' point!
The whole video uses METAPHORS to REPLACE the fantasy elements. Instead of Scorpion being a man who went to Hell, he's a man who went to jail. He's not dead just because he has white eyes. Why would an undead turn himself into the god damned police?
It's not just a no-magic world, it's not even an international story! Every single character lives in this stupid Deacon City place! You can't GET any more small than using JUST ONE CITY as your setting.

Who says its one city? Who says this isn't a problem in more places? It was just one news broadcast..
Of course the police and special ops aren't gonna talk about magic, metaphors and other worlds.. you do realise how ridiculous that soudns dont you?? They are based in the real world, so they will look for a real world explanation to it.. it is 8 minutes.. dont be so close minded

You're making up your own story because you WANT to believe it's more like Mortal Kombat.
I'm using only the facts that are presented in the 8 minutes of footage to determine what messages the director wanted to tell us.
If it were a worldwide story, Sonya and Jax wouldn't be cops, they'd be military like in the games.
If there were an Outworld, the Outworld characters wouldn't have been the ones the director humanized.
Jax didn't describe Shang as a major crime boss. He described him as a guy who hired two serial killers and wants to put together an underground fighting ring.
It's all smalltime. You can't pretend there's secret magic when the only evidence is a dude having white eyes. White eyes don't mean shit.

I wonder how will they explain Sub-zero throwing ice. This realistic consept make things interesting.. I am sure they will add sorcery to explain how scorpion came back from the dead. Or he is just blind and never died. He could speak metaphorically. He may mean he's past self / character is dead. Let's see how they will explain his fatality. Breathing fire. Really interesting.

You're deluding yourself and I can see that sticking to just facts and logic trying to argue with you is never going to get me anywhere, so fine, feel free to imagine whatever you like is there that really isn't. I'm out.

MK Rebirth is not a complete movie, or a game.
It's just a short movie a director made for WB. Maybe they will do a complete movie, they can actually see many people loves the concept.

At least it's something. heh Usually this place gets around 5-10 new posts a day. Due to all the craze over that video, we probably got a couple of months worth of posts in 1 day. With e3 so soon, it's only gonna get crazier. I like it.

They aren't. He's a police captain... See, you might not have noticed, but the whole thing is a next to unrecogniseable REALISTIC REINVISIONING of Mortal Kombat. :-)
The ebb has definitely gone back into stupid. How is this a discussion?

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have to defend this aspect of Mortal Kombat. It's one of the last things I thought people would turn against, like almost near fatalities as level of relevance to fans. As a movie, big deal honestly I don't care, but for the games? People really want to abandon the mysticism that has been with MK for all these years? It might be chided when said, but that truly wouldn't be Mortal Kombat anymore. It's too crucial of an element to casually remove. I don't want my supernatural characters boiled down to crazed human psychopaths.

We may not always agree, but I agree with this. Anything I have said about this video being an ok idea, it's in reference to it being a movie. I would not want the games to change to this. I want the games to be darker and grittier, but that doesn't mean I want the mythology and supernatural elements stripped from them, nor the characters so drastically changed.
I was strictly talking about a possible movie based off this, but that's also cuz I don't think this video is implying all the supernatural elements would be missing, they just aren't as prevailant in this particular pitch. I believe that if WB picked up these guys to do the movie, that they could make any adjustments they see fit, such as getting decent writers who keep the premise of the story and the supernatural elements still intact in order to tie in better with the games for a release possibly with the MK10 game in 2012.

isnt the pic of sub zero a dead giveaway that theres outworld and all the socercy etc. stuff in this adaptation of MK? also if they didnt show sub zero then there would be doubts about this matter BUT with sub zero theres no way around it I mean his main power is his freezing moves and thats for sure concidered him using magic I mean what would sub zero do instead throw ice cubes on you?? his look
Scorpion I guess can make due with his hook thing baraka with his blades reptile with ripping of heads (which honestly isnt realsitc especially with one hand ) also him eating people is similliar to what he does in the games soo what Im getting at is sub zero is the only exception he NEEDS his ice powers and scorpions eyes are a dead giveaway too all he needs is his ninja costume and hes set...
