^Not to mention most of the bad guys that pretty much served as punching bags in "story" mode....their stories weren't told either
Yes, I will be participating in the voting topic tomorrow. Like I mentioned before, I will only show my votes and not give any critiques until the characters have been eliminated. This will allow me to critique each character once, thoroughly as well as not give away who I am feeling is the favorite to win the competition.

We all worked very hard and I understand that some people have opinions but in order to sustain maturity, people should keep their negative comments to themselves because when it comes to showing your work to strangers, its nice to have a little grace and respect for one another. To any of the people in the preliminarys as of right now, i understand how it feels to have our characters first entered...but we all did a great job and we should be proud of ourselves. Good luck my friends!

So we can, im just saying use charcters to fit here. Im just pointing it out i dont think your opinion should be restricted so it fits into MK9 games, allow room for just after is just what im saying

You seem to be obsessing a great deal over the fact that someone did not like a part of your character's canon that kind of stomped on the established rules of the setting. I understand that getting negative feedback can feel kinda sucky, but the negative stuff helps just as much, if not more, than positive back patting. Also, constructive criticism can be negative as long as it isn't something like, 'lol dat sux!', ya dig?
I agree i hope in the next game you can choose out of the story who you play as. I also think each character should be having a different story, so you can basicly play the game lets say 26 characters you can play 26 times that would allow to play the game for a long period of time and youd want to finish the game with everyones story and even help you learn to thoroughly play as each person rather than 4 matches.

You see now dude, you are a GOOD critic. instead of going straight to "opinions" you stated that you're going to take the time to go through each character and state the good and bad comments...instead of just saying the bad.....
Thank you
Maybe I just have too much time on my hands but a little constructive criticism can go a long way.

Do you think it matters if we follow suit? Obviously the voice of authority carries a lot of weight and can sway the vote but the community (the forum) should be openly discussing these characters to foster discussion.

oh i getchu. I've never really been in a competition so I'm not used to it, but youre right, we"ll all like and not like parts of certain canons. Next time I'll just let it SLIDE. thanx, have a good day. :)
Woah, after sitting back and thinking about it for a second..i realized all the time and energy Crow must have put into making this competition. It'd probably be very hard to do. It takes a lot of patience and thinking and so far its right on the spot. Thanks again Crow and the others who helped organize this.
This really gives us a great opportunity to showcase our ideas, etc.

I think it's best if the community discusses the characters in an open manner in an ongoing debate. The reasons for my choice to only show what vote I've cast are outlined above. I think it's a bad idea for an official judge to let it be known whom he is favoring more than others. Community voters are different because of the lack of that official stamp and the fact that it's the community as a whole that makes up an actual vote in the tournament itself, not just one person, so saying what's on your mind isn't as glaring.

I just have a few things to say: First of, congrats to all the 13 characters that are up. Still need to finish the last few, but so far so good, yes like it's been stated some with flaws, and some with greatness, but all are done in a unique way that is acceptable to me.
I do want to say is that as a writer, and I'm not saying I'm a great one, you be the judge when you see my character, Keilenaten, my baby, I learned to take criticism to the fullest. Whether it's a positive one, or a negative. And honestly, the negative criticisms are really more of constrictive ones. It's the way we go back and see where we might have gone wrong, or simply tweak it a little to better our character. I do it all the time with anything I write: plays, scripts, novels, etc. I love getting as much feedback as possible. Bad or good. It's how we grow. Of course there are ways to give feedback without being rude, or mean to someone. Not that anyone has done that here. Just pointing that out. But from what I've read, it's being personal opinion by each reader. Some will like your creation, and some won't. So far I like all of them.
I am waiting for my baby Keilenaten to come out and play, so I can have each and everyone of your thoughts. Like I said, good or bad. Hell, I think I already have bit of trouble coming, lol. She is involved from Deception to Armageddon, and then back to this new timeline. She has her own world, realm, etc. Just hope I was able to write her good and to fit MK9 and beyond.

Eliblue, I'm still having an issue uploading your second image. Did you save it any differently when you created the image? You may want to try uploading it elsewhere and just linking it. Sorry, not sure what else to do really. The server isn't accepting it.
I am attempting to make the character pages as uniform as possible. I'm not quite where I want to be yet, mostly with enhanced specials. I've done my best to include any additional content provided to me in a neat and organized manner.

Oh okay Crow. I'm surprised its not accepting the file. What I'll do is I'll resend it in a different file. I'm really curious as to why the other one works and this doesn't....like I said, I'll resend it tomorrow. I tried three times today but I have a few more ideas. Its funny too because I'm mort proud of her alternate and it isn't working yet

I know that all of us have worked hard on our creations and thought very hard. But we can't be soft about judging. I expect the judges to be very harsh when the competition begins. They have 100+ that has to cut down to 1 winner. So even though we have spent days creating or worlds, it don't automatically mean we have to be soft on our judgments.
I look for plausibility and a good bio/story/ending. I like details, but I also know that we can't always put as much detail in as we'd like.
Also. Following the rules set in the MK universe should be looked into more. Things like; Kahn cannot step foot in Earth realm without the Elder Gods giving punishment. But this can be over turned with something like; the Elder Gods were blinded from events by one of their own, a fallen Elder. That make things more plausible for something like Kahn stepping into Earth realm.
Now I do enjoy reading these character bios/stories/endings! But I have always been a sucker for details like this. So I am sorry if I sound like a harsh tw*t about my opinions, I expect nothing less when it comes to my creations. It's nothing personal.

"Harsh" is a matter of opinion. My criticisms will be constructive, and I will also give suggestions to help the users for next time there's a contest such as this. Certain things may be said in a blunt manner, but being honest isn't being disrespectful or childish. I won't make fun of any of the characters, and I wouldn't think any of my judges would do so either. There's a fine line between being direct and being rude.
With that being said, I'm sure I may accidentally offend someone; it's bound to happen with 100 different people having entered.

I like to think I haven't been a d*ck about my opinion about Alexandra's story. I just pay close attention to the games story and all the little rules within the MK tournament and for my number 1 bad guy Shao Kahn.
So while reading, it hit a nerve. In a bad way to be honest. I just like to stick to the rules the game has told us.

My character's story continues directly after Raiden beats Kahn...basically he gets a vision and blah blah blah. So it is like an expansion of MK9...I made her that way for the purpose that she could fit into the story while it being future and not current...it could potentially be DLC. I look at things differently than others but if you think about it...MK9 is already made so you can not really just throw in a character and have it make sense unless they are just cameo's or something. Which would be lame IMO...but yeah my story follows the MK9 guidelines. It is just not in the timeline of MK1,2 or 3...it is kind of like it is hooked on to the end of MK3 and extends into 4.
Anyway,What I am trying to say is that it makes sense to not put characters into the current story because it would change it...if MK9 is canon than fusing characters into the story changes that. The only way it might work is if it was like a story in the background that takes place during the events. Like in story mode in some of the cut scenes leading to events characters could pop in and out. Like with Kitana for instance, before she talks with the group before she fights smoke she could have been waiting awhile for them and had confrontations with other beings and so on. I dunno,to me that really restricts limits to ones character in many aspects. It leads to paying attention to where they come in and how they got there and if it all makes sense. It just seems more fitting to follow the end of MK9 rather than be in the middle of it. That is my opinion.
I already mentioned the ones I liked so far but in reality just because I like them does not mean I see them as fit to be in an actual game nor does that mean that any of them will get my vote. I am fixing to get breakfast and read the rest of them and see the fixes and pics that have been added. The rest may change my mind...
To those that entered...if I see your character as an unnatural fit or anything and I do not vote for you...no hard feelings and great work on the characters because I do enjoy them regardless if they fit or not.

My character blends in to the MK9 storyline but does not affect it. He does make an impact immediately after Shao Kahns death. I found it much easier to do that way because we have no clue what's gonna happen in the next installment of MK. You can kinda make it up as you go along just don't go overboard with it.

Yeah,my bio does not even explain much. It just basically is like a teaser or introduction as I stated before. I feel that stating who she is,where she originates from and what her intentions are are more direct than dragging out a story. It is a fighting game after all. It may seem a bit too simplified but if I make it too long it will extend too far into the future out of MK9 guidlines. That is why I left out the whole story for the competition. Which I have readily waiting for when the event is over to share...and I will be working on a secret alt you will get to see along with it

Well that's the whole point. Shao kahn still was going to get punishment from the elder gods..when he's killed in this game. That's the ultimate judgement/punishment for all his wrongs, including this one. And that was they way to incorporate her sacrifice into the story. And the elder gods did nothing because they already had their plans for Shao Kahn. It wasn't a 48 hour invasion, it was a quick one. Anyways, thanks for the criticism to us all, Ultimate Savage. It'll give a taste of what's to come.lol

I think some of you guys are looking a little *too* much into the whole story/bio thing, specifically how characters' endings are told. In EVERY Mortal Kombat game, there's been maybe 1 ending that was actually canon for the next game; all the other endings pretty much tell what the warrior does for the rest of his or her life (i.e. rules with an all female fighting alliance, destroys the realms, goes crazy). You don't have to make it so that the character can fit into the next game....that's the beauty of the ending; it can pretty much be whatever you want bc endings are hardly ever canon anyway.

To my understanding. Kahn cannot step foot in Earth realm. But does so without punishment. He has time to have a small invasion of Greece before being tempted to take a baby as a slave to save themselves. I can't see Kahn's personality being one for bargaining with humans that are going to be annihilated anyway?
Kano and his Black Dragon are a major force on Earth and have betrayed the human race. That is the only reason Kahn hasn't destroyed them, because he can use them. I am sticking strictly to the rules the Elder Gods set for Kahn. He can't step in and out of Earth realm as he pleases, let alone be aloud to physically take a human child from Earth back to Outworld. The Elders would then have grounds to punish Kahn there and then, not wait till the tournament is over. Kahn committed the ultimate crime against the Elder Gods' rule.
These are details I hope the judges look for. Knowing the boundaries of the MK universe is yet another key to a good canon-style story.
I know I am being harsh! But I am not taking the piss out of your story or character! I like all the stories and characters so far! But my eye for detail get's the better of me.

Finished my breakfast and finally went through all the characters thoroughly. Wrote out my thoughts and rated and placed them against eachother. The numbers point to Onyx being the winner but I really am torn on Adsler,Onyx and Shade. I really like them 3 and it will be between these that I will choose out of this round.
The things that turns me away from each are as followed=
Adsler: Great concept with details that seemingly to me are missing. The X-Ray lacks in some creativity and the Specials are missing EX versions. The bio was exotic and a bit oddly written.
Onyx: The costumes seemed to be explained generically. The bio is ok but it lacks some minor detail in my opinion. Just a bit generic all around. Specials lack EX versions here aswell. Expected more out of his costumes and look.
Shade: I think the X-ray is too long to perform. The style and costumes sound a bit like a generic kung fu movie. Though well written it is generic and just like the others there is a lack of EX versions of Special Moves.
