Shujinko. The idea of a world wisened martial arts master is unique for MK. People like to throw around the word "generic" but I appreciate the back-to-our-roots approach of his character design and concept. If they brought him back, it might be cool if they incorporated the on-the-fly fighting style switching that was in the 3D games.
Cassie is alright but ultimately feels superfluous. Same issue that Jacqui has, but to a lesser extent. Not different enough and didn't make enough of an impact to justify sticking around alongside their parents. Takeda and Kung Jin didn't have this problem. And I don't appreciate the whole millennial sass thing very much. Obnoxious.
Both characters would need some rethinking if they were to return, but I much prefer Shujinko.

To me, Shujinko has always been nothing but a vessel for exploration. Never really shined as a true character. I am not a big fan of Cassie, gameplay wise or other, but at least she has personality. Shujinko did just seem like a blank slate, and nothing about him made me like him (except I do also like the old-man-kung-fu look). Nonetheless, an "Old-man-kung-fu" guy should be more focused on.. well... fighting with hands and feet, not special powers. The guy could emulate any special move, how is there supposed to be any balance? How is anyone supposed to believe there is going to be a fair fight with this guy?
I dunno, the whole concept of Shujinko never really rubbed me the right way. Now I don't like Cassie either but....
DING!..... DING! DONG!..... it hurts everytime :(
Voted for Cassie, if nothing else, because some of her remarks made me laugh the first time around.

Kitana was never good, but she just got more horrible in MKX with her forced storyline, and huge [environmentally concerned] face.

Forced storyline...like Jax and his stale daughter right?
Cassie gets my vote this round.
Cassie Cage this round.
Even though both characters have moves form other fighter, Cassie shows more personality and borrowing her parents moves worked for MKX. In the next game, Cassie, Jacqui and Kung Jin should get there own moveset. I would have Special Forces invent a device or machine that allows you to gain new powers and abilities. I think that would work for the squad. Takeda should get a few more unique moves but he should keep his whips as his main weapon.
Shujinko was fun to play as in Deception. However since Shujinko borrowed the moveset of other warriors, they should just forget about Shujinko entirely and just come up with a new protagonist to take his place since he doesn't have a major tie to the storyline. I'm still hoping Konquest or a game based on Konquest to return in the future along with different colored Koins like in Deadly Alliance and Deception.

Yeah, stereotype personality.
Fine, if you like those stupid Cage jokes....

A new generation! An old thread! Takahashi Takeda is the son of the blind sword saint, and the Scorpion's apprentice! His fighting skills combine the best of his masters arts, enhanced with the lash of the whip. Reptile is the lurking danger that goes unseen. At home in the wild, he can disappear from sight in the tangled undergrowth, or simply take vision with an acidic spew! One fights for Earthrealm's special forces, the other is loyal to Outworld's Emperor Kotal Kahn. Who reigns supreme when a new rivalry is born?... FIGHT!
I actually really like the idea of Takeda, namely his main weapon the whip things on his arm. Other than that, there isn't much else I like about him. Don't really like his personality or his appearance. I was looking at the concept art and I actually liked almost every other design for him a lot more than the two that are playable. I do like his gameplay, although I haven't put much time into using him. I don't think many other characters can pull off the mid-range game quite as well as he can, my problem is keeping them there.
Now Reptile hasn't done anything special recently, but I've always liked the idea of the character. He has had a lot of designs that I like, and his gameplay is almost always unique. I also like that in most of the games he was actually pretty hard to get good with, I don't recall him ever being one of the characters that was really easy to master. Even though he has almost always been a jobber, he is a staple jobber lol.
I've always liked Reptile, and I'm iffy on Takeda. So I'm going with Reptile.
I won't argue with you there, but I would prefer a "stereotype personality" over a lack of personality.
lol yeah those Cage jokes get me here and there, although granted they do get stale quickly.

Reptile vs Takeda?
So an established character that's only improved visually and gameplay-wise over the years vs the equivalent of a bad deviantart OC?
And don't tell me he's not. I bet I could go back to the times of Deadly Alliance and somewhere out there some 12 year old made a self-insert character that's "The secret son of Kenshi that he gave to the Shirai Ryu. He trained with scorpion and is his best student. He uses spears and swords and has telekinetic powers."

Voting for Takeda, Reptile is awesome but Takeda is probably my 2nd favorite character in MKX. Gotta go with him.

I voted Reptile, but Takeda has a Scorpion vibe and is easy to win with so my bet is that Takeda will win the vote. Also Reptile apparently only exists to be a punching bag. He even gets his ass kicked in the comics.

I used to love Reptile. First hidden character, and to have him playable in MK2 with his own move set was amazing. But he's gotten worse for me ever since.
He's only ever been a lackey. His story goes nowhere, unless you count getting used as the Dragon King's vessel and to me, he's more of a footnote in that plot point. Not that it matters, as both he and that terrible dinosaur version from MKDA have been retconned out of the new story.
I don't personally believe in the idea of giving a character a bump because they're "classic," especially when so many people wish that a lot of classic characters like Liu Kang, Sonya, Jax etc would go away.
I still like Reptile, but he's one of the most poorly used characters in the series and he has the worst variations in MKX by far, which only further drives that point home.
I picked Takeda. Yeah, he needs a more mature, grown up personality transplant for the next game, but he's got family lineage, he's only the second Shinrai Ryu character we've been able to use, he's got a cool teacher, a possible love interest in Jacqui...
Some might not like any of this stuff, but to me, all of that stuff shows potential. I dislike both his and Reptile's looks in MKX, so that's a draw as far as I'm concerned.
