I'm upset because I actually enjoyed MKA. It definitely wasn't executed as well as it should have been but the idea alone gives it staying power. I liked most of the gameplay elements (especially Air Kombat) and I thought it was the best of the current-gen games.

An MK vs. DC game shows a continued lack of effort by Boon and Co. when it comes to giving the fans of Mortal Kombat a quality product. They've already been given permission to use the Unreal 3 engine, so that's done, and now that they've partnered with DC, that already knocks out half of the characters right there, which means that's probably 10-12 characters they don't have to sit around and create all of the aspects for. It's lazy. And for those who said that Boon doesn't make those decisions, are you guys dumb? Would Midway go through with something if the creator of their signature franchise hated it? Boon has about as much say as the CEO of the damn company.

It's simple fact: Boon sold out. This game is going to be a disgrace to Mortal Kombat, if that's even possible anymore.

In all seriousness though, what the hell? Here they are with a brand new engine to play with, a chance to start fresh and they make a crossover with it? It seems like an awefully wasted opportunity to me.

So, for the sake of a little clarification, should people ready to "mourn" the death of the MK franchise, should they be heading to the General MK forum? Or are we just going to pretend it's unreasonable to discuss disappointment?

General discussion, in one thread, is fine. If you all want to act like 10 year olds, that's dandy by me. Just all stay in one room; it's a little hard to play babysitter when I have to run all over this mansion.

Personally, I'm still not big on this project.

The basic idea, Mortal Kombat doing a crossover, makes me tilt my head like Micheal Myers observing a dead body. I always saw...and preferred...the context of Mortal Kombat to be a stand-alone thing. It's not that it CAN'T fit with other universes or whatever....I just never really wanted it to.

Mixing MK with DC is an odd match. I am getting a kick out of the people who have clearly never even looked at a comic book exclaiming how DC is nowhere near as "dark" as Mortal Kombat. Bullshit. You're referring to the same comics that showed the Joker shoot Batgirl in the spine, take her clothes off, take photographs, and then force Commisioner Gordan to look at each picture. In my opinion, that alone trumps ANYTHING we've seen from MK.

But on the other hand, while DC can most certainly out-dark MK with ease...some of it's characters are at odds with that. While Wonder Woman has lopped off more than her fair share of heads, she isn't a "dark" character...nor is she meant to be. Same with guys like Green Lantern, who has ventured into "dark" stories more than once...but he really isn't a "dark" character.

I don't think it's a question of how "dark" can it be...I think the thing is, the idea of a crossover is in itself a pretty goofy and gimmicky idea. I've seen people say it would've better to cross it over with Marvel or something else. No it wouldn't. It'd be the same result.

The toning down of violence and lack of fatalities is going to be a kicker. Let's face it, Mortal Kombat is not...nor has it ever been...renowned for it's fantastic fighting engine. It's best known for over-the-top violence and gore. I know that...in theory...by taking that out, they're supposed to be concentrating more on the fighting engine and creating a solid, playable game. Call me a cynic, but we've heard that bullshit before.

Which brings me to my final point....we've been fed a load of BS yet again. I believe the point of Armageddon...aside from milking some more money from fanboy nostalgia....was to give one final hurrah before they revamped the series. Didn't Boon claim they intended to take the game in a darker, grittier direction? Maybe streamline the story a bit and try to bring in some "newness?"

Call me crazy, but that doesn't translate into a crossover with DC. Maybe I wouldn't mind so much if they announced they were doing this weirdness and THEN going to make the new MK8, which would be blah blah blah.

I was hoping they weren't going to bother trying to make a story out of this...since I do care about the MK story. Unfortunately, they are apparently going to try to actually make "sense" of this nonsense and may even call is canon. I sense Shaolin Monks all over again.

Personally, I'm not really angry. Truth is, I feel nothing except a slight sense of disdain. I will say though, this is a bad time to be a fan of both Mortal Kombat and DC. As a MK fan, I'm disappointed to see the series go in this direction...which, in all honesty, I have zero interest in. I mean, if the big selling point is that they're crossing over with DC....I'm not sold. Meanwhile, as a DC fan, I'm offended by the rather ignorant remarks I'm seeing from angry fanboys who are acting like someone just spit on their mother...which only make me embarassed to be an MK fan.

I think if you're disappointed, say so, but say so reasonably. Just saying this game will suck without much backing or proof is just sort of ignorant.

Do I like the idea? No. Not at all. A watered down, T-rated MK game involving happy-go-lucky demigod Superman just isn't my cup of tea, partially because I'm quite the adamant Superman hater (though I guess I know who my training dummy is going to be.)

Still, I won't say this game will suck simply because we still don't have too much info on the gameplay. The gameplay could be refined, polished, and perfect, a "testing ground" for the "real" MK8 (I don't know what else to call it.)

But, yes.... as much as I want to deny it and not say it.... Mortal Kombat sold out. It's a brilliant marketing move, really. It's got the forums in an uproar, fans of both sides at least curious and spreading the word. Selling out means money, and Midway is a business just like everyone else. I mean, would Madden keep releasing the same football game every year for full price if people didn't buy it?

I like to think on the sunny side, so, in my nice happy little imagination land, I have a really nice render of Sub-Zero to look at... oh, and some other guy's looking at him.

wow.... i wouldnt of minded a crossover game if it was with like oh i dunno... street fighter or some thing.... the number 1 most wanted crossover game in the world... but no instead we got DC....

well in a sense this makes sense for MK crossover with DC cuz those are like the opposites Marvel vs. Capcom.... that is exactly what this MK vs DC thing reminds me of.... yet it is only many years late.... like this would of made total sense for way back whenever.... but now? first game on new consoles that has new fighting engine that sounds like it could be pretty damn good and they make it a crossover game? i seriously dunno how much longer i can go on with MK???...... i know ill get the damn game no matter what, but i mean damn.... im disappointed cuz i dont care wtf the story is.... it isnt gonna be any thing that will please me i know for sure right now. i never even cared fore DC.... im a Marvel type of guy....

Omg.. slight overreaction maybe? I am a big MK fan and don't know/like DC (i only really know Superman and Batman), but yeh.. some people really need to ease up. There are people saying that their 17 years of loyalty has expired and that they will sell all their MK merchandise.. please.. if you were loyal for 17 years through the disappointments of MK4, MKA and Special Forces among others, you should definitely be able to stand this. Not only that, but having been loyal through all those bad MK times, you would think that you "fans" would have the patience to at least wait until the game comes out to judge it. The concept of MK vs. DC may not be the best, but then again, who would have thought a game where Mario, Pikachu, Link and Kirby would have to try and kill each other by getting them off a stage would be any good?

So yeh.. pretty much what I am saying is to at least wait until you see something more than 2 images (one of which is very, very blurred) and a short, unrevealling video before you judge.

MK is essentially a fighting game. While it can't compare to Virtua Fighter, Tekken and all those other more "technical" fighting games, the actual fighting is how the game should be judged. MK's fighting system has always been based around more basic controls, which appeal to the less experience fighting game player, as well as the iconic special moves that characters have. So yeah.. pretty much MK is not the most technical fighting game, but it is no doubt enjoyable, and isn't enjoyment why you play a video game? At least give it a chance until you play the game and experience the fighting engine before judging it so harshly. From what we have seen, the new elements added are actually really cool. Klose Kombat sounds really interesting, and the falling kombat thing as seen on the video is really sexy. We know that special moves will return as well. So far from what we know, this MK game is looking to be like a fun MK game. And if you are going to mention the whole blood and gore factor, the trailor we have been shown did show some blood and Boon did state that there will be fatality-like finishers. If anything, you should be happy it is not going to be M rated as it allows MK to be bought by a larger audience, which will make Midway get more funds to make an even better MK game next time.

Another thing that has always been important to MK's appeal is its storyline. Yes.. the introduction of DC into the storyline could potentially ruin the storyline. Yes, it is a very obscure idea, even for Ed Boon. But people are only looking at the negative part. If MK vs. DC has a good storyline, it could be really epic. We are having MK, a series filled with potential, having a storyline crafted by some of the top comic book writers. I mean there is more chance for MK's potential in terms of storyline to be shine now then there was in MKA, with 63 characters in it. And again, the storyline has been one of the most constant pros of MK. While it is often repetitive, it is not always predictable. There are so many things that MK does with its storyline that are unexpected, and thats what makes the story great. There being two Sub-Zeros... Ashrah actually being possessed by her sword... Mileena posing as Kitana... I mean the storyline in MK has these unexpected twists, and MK vs. DC has the potential, especially with such talented story writers, to be something epic. Boon said it is undecided whether it will be canon or not, which is great news. If the story works out well, its canon. If not, it is non-canon. So really, the storyline complaint should not really be an issue, because if worse comes to worse, it will be non-canon. Then, the only issue will be having to wait another 2 years for the next MK game, and as fans of MK, patience should be a virtue we all possess.

I know people are going to say something about it being the concept of DC intruding on my beloved MK and how the slate was meant to be wiped clean and MK are just riding on DCs back now.. well, deal with it. Boon promised us something unexpected and shocking, and it certainly is. Even with the rumour afloat, and even with MKO posting the picture up, there was still always doubt. People never expected that the MK team would go through with it.. so yeh, it is definitely unexpected. The slate is also being wiped clean.. many characters are dying off, new fighting mechanics, a whole lot of new characters (including DC ones).. i mean Boon never lied to us. The fact that DC is in an MK game should not be treated with so much hostility - if for no other reason, you "loyal" fans should be buying this game because half of it is a MK game.

So yeh.. pretty much what I am trying to say is wait until we actually can play the game, don't be so quick to judge the thing because the fact that DC is involved is not really that big a deal.. pretend the DC characters are MK characters if you want. They will participate in the MK storyline, they will be used in the game.. I mean if you could deal with the likes of Chameleon, Meat, Hsu Hao and Stryker, I'm sure you can cope with Batman.

You're right, we can't judge it with only a couple of pics and a short-ass vid, but there's nothing wrong with looking for patterns in the past to predict the future. And anybody who denies that the MK Team are infamous for cutting corners, never having a completed game by the deadline, and (more often than not) taking the easy way out are delusional. And unfortunately the DC angle just seems like a gimmick that screams "WE WON'T TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE A GOOD, SOLID GAME. SO HAVE FUN WITH BATMAN & CO. INSTEAD!"

That or you people just love your campy and gimmicky shit so much that you'll scream FOUL if that formula has been messed with in the slightest. Even if it may be for the better. It's not like the last 3 MK's didn't suck hard. How could this one be worse? Ok...I gave up reading how everyone thinks this is gonna be the crappies MK game ever on the page 8 of this thread. Only a few considered giving it at least a chance. Why don't the anti-crossover faction just rent the damn thing when it comes out and if you like buy it. If not its only a few dollars spent with even more saved.

I'm actually kinda interested on how, as per the Boon interview, they are gonna empower the 'normal' humans of MK to match up to the heavy weights of DC. They made no mention on how they are gonna weaken Superman except that he is already weak to magic. So...is Johnny gonna learn how to fly or something? Cause I have no idea how one of those falling/air combat moments can be fair if one fighter can fly and then other just goes splat or is the 'merging of the realms/worlds' of MK and DC gonna weaken Sups?

What does this do to the so call questionable characters of MK? Will this merging finally straighten Raiden's act up? Or will he go even more insane? Maybe it was him that started the whole damn mess. Will the thundergod start wearing spandex now? (j/k on that last one...I hope)

Will it be purely MK vs DC or are the good guy of the two worlds gonna team up and fight the bad guys of the two worlds? A free-for-all? If its purely MK vs DC does this mean that Sonya and Kano gonna join forces?

Now Boon mentioned they choose characters that 'match up'. Ok I can see Subby and Bats being alike (although still I can't get that damn Batman the Animated Series movie out of my mind now...the one titled Sub-Zero). So who else can they pair up? We know Scorpion and Superman have been confirmed but they don't seem to pair up...I see Superman facing down someone like Raiden or Shao Khan. But old Khan reminds me more of Darkseid than Sups. Nitara would be easy its Hawkgirl, but I don't see them bringing Nitara back for something like this. We can bet that Wonder Woman will show up so my money is that Kitana and/or Mileena will as well. Princesses in a cat fight...eye candy for the guys. If they bring in lesser known DC characters then maybe Black Canary and Sindel. Kabal and the Flash (shrugs). Green Arrow and Nightwolf? Arg...my head hurts now. Gonna get a drink before this gets worse.
