Hilarious username, given what you just said. I'd hate to see how you felt about something you weren't a fan of.
Also, big lulz to "TNA is about wrestling". Suuuure thing.

One of the few posts in this thread I've ever agreed with.

Anyone care to tell me why Ben Rothlessburger is gonna be the guest host next week? Seems like this guest host thing is getting out of hand. Cedric, Rev. Al Sharpton, Shaq...that was too much already...but Big Ben?
Ugh...PG WWE is like watching WSX without the fun and entertainment...

You're already complaining about the guest hosts?
Despite how many frown upon the Attitude era... at least it had some dignity to care less what kids think. Screw the niceness WWE can offer to the kids and get back to what it was before some jackass made it kid friendly... Since when does wrestling care about how nice it is? Back in the 80s you had little 7 year olds cheering on Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, terrified of the Undertaker, and having mullets as a sign of coolness...
Jesus, it's like all the good stuff happened in the passed... mostly during the 90s...

You do realize the NFL stomps MLB in ratings and that Ben is the quarterback of the defending Superbowl champions (and has multiple rings), right? He's one of the most relevant sport figures they could have gotten.

Yea, I'm going to have to pile on here. Ben Roethlisberger has 2 Super Bowl wins under his belt and just because of his name is one of the most recognizable figures in (real) sports. Read a newspaper sometime... you might learn something.
You guys are forgetting that WWE is not an American product, it's a worldwide product. All I've been reading on wrestling news sites and forums and soforth is English, Japanese, Europeans, Australians, etc - even Canadian and Mexican kids - all asking "who the fuck is this Ben Rothlebotthle guy?" Nobody outside of the US knows who he is, and that's half of WWE's audience these days. He's very, very, very not an idea host.
And the attitude era was ABOUT the kids, and that's why it was shit. Dirty humor and anything promoting itself to be xtreeem is usually labeled as being for "mature audiences," much like Mortal Kombat, but audiences who are actually mature don't care that sort of immaturity, they don't care about nudity and gore. Kids do, because it's new and exciting to them. And just like Mortal Kombat, that's who the target market for the attitude era really was; immature retards (tweens and thirteen year olds) who thought it was cool to watch people hit each other with furniture, flash their tits, and walk around saying "suck it." Horrible.
The style of WWE we have now is a lot less immature because it features less random stupidity, sexual innuendo, and terrible "edgy" jokes.

EXACTLY.
Rothlebotthle is a huge sports figure... in America. Outside of the United States he's a complete nobody.
And indeed, since when is ''suck it'' and fart humor mature?
With every passing WWE show I realize even more how going PG is a great move. I'm sure you'll all see it eventually. I've been doing fine without all the ''hardcore'' matches and girls in lingerie. The only thing that's really pissed me off was that Undertaker kidnapping Teddy Long segment, now that was horrible.
In case everyone's forgot about the REAL golden age of pro wrestling, let me remind you when the sport became truly huge- Hulkamania. Pro wrestling didn't become an international entertainment preference until Hulk Hogan and all the 80s stars started dressing up in colorful gear and telling the kids to take their vitamins and say their prayers. You think the WWE product today is directed at the kiddies?

Hulkamania? HULKAMANIA?! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
But actually I agree with what you're saying fundamentally. I think the golden age of pro wrestling might possibly have been the 70's, but the point is much the same anyway. It was great with solid wrestling, solid booking, solid feuds, and interesting characters; that era didn't need garbage wrestling, deliberately offensive characters, strippers, or rape angles. Any way you look at it I think the bottom line is, when you strip away all the shit which made the attitude era what it was, what you're left with is a promotion forced to focus more on the quality of the matches themselves on a more regular basis because it can no longer rely on tits and blood. And that's always a good thing.
Actually to continue the MK comparison, it's much in the same way MKvsDC got nerfed as far as gore is concerned, and because they didn't have that gimmick to use as a crutch Midway were forced to try put together a game which was more fundamentally sound. Result? Most playable MK game in years.
And I know WWE do shitloads of gimmick matches for PPV, but as far as week-to-week television goes, the quality of WWE matches is at least as good it's ever been.
Shibata I've never really been a hulkamaniac, but it was the Hogan era that really took pro wrestling to another level in terms of popularity; I think we very much agree on what we're fundamentally saying though, yeah.
Recently, WWE (Especially Smackdown! programming) has been an awesome source of actual wrestling. There's great talent, great matches, and feuds that are based on the premise of wrestlers wanting to win wrestling matches, rather than fighting over a pair of tits or a Jerry Springer-like family feud.
If you get down to it, the simple ''PG'' concept of wrestlers going at each other because it's their job has far more to do with actual pro wrestling than any of the attitude era stunts.
I seriously ask you, do you actually watch Smackdown! and feel the product is worse because it's PG? Doing commentary for Smackdown! I watch the show and have absolutely no problem with it at all.
Aside from some goofy stuff, the product has improved.
Besides, if you can't enjoy the product, you should at least see the benefits that will come from this. WWE needs to create new fans as much as it needs to create new stars. The teens that watched the attitude era aren't going to buy PPVs forever. And after so many years of trying to be ''cutting edge'' and controversial all the time, WWE has lost the respect of a lot of entities. The lack of forced controversy will give people less reasons to complain about pro wrestling and bring the popularity of the business back up.

mk vs dc was good but come on mk vs superheroes I rather watch them take on wwe than dc but as for wwe being pg isd concern it's bullshit I mean since when was wrestling was ever ment to be for families it was for wrestling fans who like to see action violence different matches ect not about kids who like to see a ring circus eat popcorn get entertained and everybody goes home happy seeing there favorite superstar save the day
but as for the the new ppv gimmiks THEY SUCK the first few ideas that they had were good like extreme rules night of champions cyber sunday that type
of thing but they went overboard trying to make a submission ppv a hell in the cell ppv a tlc ppv I mean all they had to do is look at a ppv and see what can they add to it to make it more enjoyable to watch not change the ppv totaly I think wwe is just crazy trying to own the domain of the ppv again

WWE is a mostly American product, in that I'm fairly certain this is its largest market and the company is based here... and there weren't any complaints when it was Shaq doing this. Last time I checked, Shaq plays American Basketball, and sure you could say "But he's Shaq", but it means nothing.
Also, Geek is from Canada and I know for a fact they show NFL games in Canada. We're not talking about a nobody, we're talking about the quarterback of the United States' most widely watched television program of the year.

You've got to be joking. It means nothing? The whole WORLD knows Shaq. Americans (and clearly not all Americans) know who the football player is.
I'd love an explanation on why Shaq being Shaq means nothing. People here in Portugal know who Shaq is, he's an international SUPERSTAR, that's the big difference. The quarterback is a huge American quarterback, that's it.
You think Shaq got hired because of his amazin basketball skillz? Yeah right. He was invited as guest host of RAW because he's a gigantic star (God forgive me the pun). He's been in movies, TV shows, he's known as a very tall individual...
There's a huge difference between Shaq and whoever the football player is.
Mind you I don't necessarily disagree with the footballer being invited, I'm just explaining to you why the negative reaction by a bunch of members. Any way you slice it (even for an American audience only), going from Shaq or Floyd Mayweather to football playing guy is a step down.

Freddy Prinze Jr, Cedric the Entertainer, Shaq, Jeremy Piven and Bob Barker are definitely well known outside of the US by anyone with even a passing interest in entertainment. Al Sharpton isn't super well known outside the US, but he's definitely more well known (amongst adults) than football guy. Not saying that WWE are committing some horrible booking atrocity, just saying, this guy is easily the least internationally recognizable, and if they want to appeal to their audience at large there are better celebrities they could have booked. You shouldn't be surprised if a ton of people don't know who football guy is.

I was more defending Roethlisberger because of what MKGeek said about him being some nobody and they couldn't find an actual famous football (originally it said baseball in his post, he edited it I guess) player. This guy is a famous football player. The Super Bowl is broadcast in dozens of countries every year, so it's just a lame cop out to say he's less important than someone like Jeremy Piven. That's beyond laughable honestly. I'm willing to bet more people internationally watched the Super Bowl earlier this year than an entire season of Entourage.
