Does anyone else watch AWA on ESPN?
Actually a good deal of the blame should go to WCW, who promised Bret time off and then didn't give it to him and didn't really care about the injury caused by Goldberg's kick.
If Bret had taken care of that issue right after it happened, he probably would've been able to beat it.
Oh well.
Now onto a sadder issue.
I just got back from the ECW/Smackdown! house show here in Lisbon, Portugal.
It sucked.
It was horrible. Hated it. Left it as soon as Triple H pinned MVP in the main event. My buddies stayed there, but I had enough.
Really bad show, and the arena was only half full.

hm, i think Zent was being sarcastic, but none the less, i think it's foolish to put the blame squarely on Goldberg, hell, even Bret doesn't put the blame fully on him, he blames the cumilation of years of physical abuse he suffered as a wrestler, and not taking proper care of himself. i think the thing with Goldberg was just an accident, and can't be looked upon as the reason Bret retired. also i think he was pissed at the direction he was going in WCW. so as Faith_No_More pointed out, WCW fucked up Curt Hennig's career, but also didn't help Bret's out either

I loved WCW that's what really got me into wrestling seeing guys like Ultimo Dragon which made me love that style.
WCW's cruiserweight was fuckin awesome and also the NWO the best and biggest faction to ever hit wrestling.
It was so big it traveled all the way to Japan.
And Sting was such a fuckin badass in WCW.
I can go on and on.
Man I wish I had recorded some shows back then.

yeah, but for every one of those "good" things u mentioned, there's just as many and many more bad things about WCW. i have mixed feelings on WCW. part of me wishes it had survived, but after hearing/reading about everything that went wrong in that company, not just in the late 90's but even during the 80's, it's kind of a good thing WCW is gone, imho!

I never really like that Sting. But here's a video of Sting and Robo Cop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGUJYLDgR8k
It was so badass when he first appeared in Black and white with the crow and wouln't say a word and just would stare at everyone with a blank face.
I always loved how everyone was scared of him and how he would clear up the ring of NWO just by walking in it.

Which is ironic, because Bischoff actually admitted that he ripped the idea for the NWO off of the UWF invasion of NJPW to begin with. NWO Japan was badass though. Chono, Tenzan, Muta, Norton... and... NWO Sting... who, actually, was pretty shit. But the gimmick was pretty win. Plus, Chono's NWO theme was awesome, I still listen to it everyday. Also I'm reminded of how great Scott Norton was and how underutilised he was in WCW.
But anyway...
WCW is over criticised. For every stupid thing they've done, WWE has done something equally bad. And WWE now is running worse angles and gimmicks than WCW then, too.

.....Examples?
1998 Kane randomly traveling forward in time to harass current day Kane and then current day Kane killing him several weeks later with absolutely no explanation, after weeks of us being able to hear Kane's "thoughts." Shit like that.
And I mean, people always snigger at the Ultimate Warior thing where Hogan saw his reflection in the mirror only to turn around and find he wasn't there. But Undertaker made the fucking walls bleed and clocks tick backwards and everyone was just like "meh."
WWE ran an angle where they booked GOD as HBK's tag partner.
Vince McMahon exploding in a limousine.
High power angle.
Snitsky killing Lita's unborn child which was concieved after she was raped by Kane, and then writing a poem about how it isn't his fault she had a dead baby in her uterus.
Katie Vick angle.
Mae Young falling pregnant to Mark Henry and then giving birth to a hand after about a month.
Matt Hardy and "Adam Copeland" going on live television explicitly telling everyone that pro wrestling is fake.
Batista, as a babyface, raping Mileena, then Mileena announcing it on Raw, then having absolutely no mention of it ever again.
Rey Mysterio's Son's Custody on a Pole match.
I mean most of this stuff is just in recent memory, but it just goes on, and on, and on. All of this stuff people will just look at, then with a completely straight face say, "yeah but it wasn't as bad as the Kiss Demon" or something, like they're totally incapable of seeing that if any of it happened in WCW then WCW would be getting HAMMERED for it. Because David Arquette fluke winning the WCW title is SO much worse than Triple H raping a corpse. Vince McMahon is every bit as bad as anyone at WCW was, if not worse when it comes to horrible writing and booking of ridiculous "pro wrestling."

so true, and as many points that Shibata brings up, he completely ignores history and should go back and take a look at all of WCW's history, not just during the 90's but back even in the 80's and see that WWF was kicking WCW's ass. yes WCW was good but not great. every wrestling organization has it's ups and downs, but to say that WWE is/was making worse mistakes than WCW is just foolish

WCW didn't go down because it made more booking mistakes than WWF, WCW went down because of a poltical decision at TBS. Besides, it's pretty hard for WWE to lose to its competion now when it doesn't have any competition.
It wasn't shit business due to bad booking alone, it was mostly shit business due to the office bleeding out money giving useless guys huge paycheques to do nothing. They would have needed exceptionally good ratings and gatesales, like 1998 numbers, to be generating a good profit at the time. WCW's booking was actually starting to get less shitty too when they closed their doors, after those couple of years of horridness. Not that it matters I guess. But I think if TBS didn't can WCW then it would have continued improving. Not saying it would have become super great or anything, but I don't think it would have wound up being any worse than WWE's is now.

This is just some of WCW's wrting at it's finest. These are just the gimmicks, the angles were even worse.
And the final nail in the coffin, this one actually occured when WCW writing was "getting better".

please, WCW's writing never got better, around that time or after.
alright, to finally put this to bed, let's try to agree to disagree, that yes WCW had it's moments, but it was never any more better than the WWE. it seems to me that near the end, it was WCW, and not the WWF who were trying just about damn near anything to get ratings, and failing miserably, due to the crap going on between the Turner brass and the bone-heads with Warner and AOL, and many other facters. Shibata, u seem pretty biased towards WCW and that's fine, but you need to realize that there are two sides to the debate, not just yours and nobody is any less right than you are

Ya, Just like real life, plently of potential but the end product is terrible.
If you're looking for a wrestling video game check out Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. It's the greatest console wrestling game ever made. I bought it for 10 dollars brand new the first day it came out. I won't really go into details about it (though if anyone wants me to I could). All I will say is, In this game you can bascially have a match like this:
Kenta Kobashi, Great Muta, Naomichi Marafuji, Misawa Vs Jushin Liger, Ultimo Dragon, Hayabusa, (insert any other japanese or mexican wrestler you want here)
Or
You could have the Ring Crew Express Vs Hulk Hogan
Or
You can have the Ring Crew Express AND MCMG Vs Hulk Hogan
All with near flawless movesets.
And finally you can have, The NWO Vs CTU in a No Rope Exploding Ring Electricfied Barbed Wire Deathmatch.
Ya, thats right.
Want any more details feel free to ask me.
