I think it is very disappointing, and actually terrifying to see see so many people afraid of labelling themselves a feminist.

I guess it just shows exactly why feminism is so important. Only in a patriarchical society would people be disgusted and disturbed by the idea that women should be treated as equals.

My Pixar reel is done, however, I am up against this one superego girl in my class that constantly brags that she's going to get the internship and may not be with us during summer break to help us work on our short film.

Um... excuse me, you're not the only one in the class that went to that Pixar meeting, had their entire spring break become a nonstop working week to get all the right pictures and animations together to be put in a reel to show off, had their hand cramp like crazy and became super tired after all that work got finished... I did the same thing too, and I'm not bragging that I'll get it. I just hope that when they see my reel, they at least enjoy what they see, and whatever comes out of it comes out on what they want, not what I want. (Although, it would be nice to get it, however, I'm not going to believe I will get it just like that)

There were at least over 150 people in that meeting that aims to get that internship, and they're not all from our school. So, we're up against a heck of a lot of other people, what makes you find and dandy thinking you'll automatically get it?

I hate people like that. And she's our director. Fuck...

And the only thing that erks me when the way woman are portrayed argument comes up, why is it just women that are portrayed wrong? Guys are portrayed as muscley, cunning, and always having to save the world. They are video games, 80% of things are not represented greatly, but that's what people want.

The reason men are portrayed that way is because ultimately, the game is fantasy, and if you're going to sell fantasy you need to make it appealing. It's assumed that the majority of the gaming market are heterosexual males (which spans all ages) so usually, the typecasts embody male fantasy. All men want to be heroic, kick ass, cunning, aesthetically pleasing (which most video game male protagonists are) and ripped to fuck.

The gaming market generally tends to make female characters also appeal to male fantasy by either putting them in the Damsel Role, or having them dressed/presented in incredibly impracticle/sexualised costumes whilst also doing "guy stuff" by kicking ass and heroic, but regardless what role they fit they've to be aesthetically pleasing because the audience wants fantasy. A perfect example of both would be Kitana in MK9: she kicks ass and can hold her own in a fight with the majority of the cast, but ultimately falls into the Damsel Role when Liu Kang needs to save her, and like the video said her role in the story doesn't progress at all once this is achieved.

The issue that video raises is that it's assumed the audience is predominantly straight men, when it's not. Gaming should appeal to every demographic, every person, every gender, everyone. She makes a fair point. My favourite females in gaming are the ones who's story continued to grow whilst they kicked ass, and who didn't need to rely on being the Damsel or their good looks to be noticeable. Lara Croft, Yuna from Final Fantasy 10, and Jill Valentine where perfect examples of that. Name one game where a man's helplessness fueled an entire game with a female protagonist and compare it to the amount of games on the market where the opposite is the case and you'll see it from her point of view.

Much more likely it gets closed because someone does something stupid, like continuously post replies to topics that already exist elsewhere, or should exist. Chumps.

Just bide your time and if you get it, don't brag. Just lock eyes with her once and watch her submit.

I had an elementary school teacher who tried to have me labeled as mentally challenged because I have poor hand-eye coordination. This woman refused to believe that because I couldn't draw or because I couldn't catch a ball I was an idiot. She even had me go to the school therapist who in turn put me in Gifted and Talented. I loathed this woman, but I never vocalized it. Then, 8 years later as I people applauded and cheered after I finished my speech at graduation I locked eyes with her (her daughter was graduating with me) and she couldn't look at me. It was extremely satisfying.

Damn right, that's always satisfying!

I can't wait for graduation when I get to look back at everybody who hated me and called me stupid so i can just sit there and laugh at them.

It's always so satisfying.

In fact, I wish that today there was somebody to tell me I can't do it. I guess I'm just unlucky that nobody thinks I can't do it. I wonder why... wink

People telling me I couldn't do it got me to where I am. I guess the only one still left on that list is my Dad, considering I've shut everybody else up by doing it.

What do you guys think the best Skyrim house is? Personally, I always had Breezehome until I decided to check out Honeyside. Now Honeyside is my fav house, mostly because the others require you to do the civil war quests and those are not on my list of things to be accomplished.

I wouldn't brag, but I would have to let her know about me getting the internship if I do get it. Mainly because we have the summer break to work on the short film and obviously I wouldn't contribute to anything for twelve weeks if I did get it.

The only time I would brag is to my family and friends.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!
Go and shove a Wiimote up your nostril, God damn long-distance! I fucking hate telephones! I just wanna talk to somebody, does 62¢ aminute really justify talking to somebody 30 fucking miles away from me!?!? Holy crap, I'm irritated.

You deserve every bit of that irritation climbing up your ass for trying a long distance relationship.

I know there were people that warned but you had to be hard headed, you just had to prove something, now your paying 62 cent for a damn minute, and none of those 62 cent minutes will satisfy you emotional needs.

Honestly just end it.

Heh. I guess that does brighten the mood. Take that and stick it in your craw, dumbass Time Warner!

Long Distance Relationships- don't they just suck!?!?

Really, God dammit, somebody just find the President of Time Warner and SHOVE THEIR WiiMOTE DOWN HIS THROAT. THROUGH HIS NOSTRIL.

That is all.

EDIT;Actually, no, it isn't.

I've worked too long and too hard to just sit here and let somebody come in and make the past 8 years of me knowing ths girl pointless. Ever since before I joined MKO last year, I've been trying to find a way to be able to be with the girl I love. Now, I have that chance.
Yeah, I said it. Love. So what? I do love her. And if there's anything I can do to make that relatonship just the slightest inch closer, I'm gonna take it. And now, my only means of communication jus got zapped down the crapper! Fuck that! i'm going to do anything i can to be with her eventually, and I don't care what anybody says about it.

That isn't what's appalling about feminism. What's appalling about feminism is that it's improperly used. I'm all for women's rights and for women being treated as equals. Even though I'm a pretty chivalrous person, I don't do it because I believe that women are the weaker sex. I do it because it's a nice thing to do. Most prominent feminists I see these days want to completely reverse the gender norms. They want to bury men completely, and they try to do it enough as it is with their condemnation of the male species in the media. That isn't feminism, it's gender-based affirmative action. Affirmative action has set us back in a lot of ways, actually, because it has also been misused by being taken too far. When applied properly, affirmative action and feminism are great things. Sadly they aren't used the right way and are instead utilized as platforms for people to push their own agendas.

Also, it both surprises and angers me that no one mentioned Lightning when talking about great female protagonists. She is the quintessential badass chick.
