Over the past several months, users in the Drive By thread have been regularly urged to find it within themselves to restore relevant conversation to other appropriate areas of the forums. These are areas specifically designated and historically utilized for these conversations. Every effort has been made to support a gradual shift back to the way things once were and should always be. Given that this focus was on naturally occuring conversation, it was hoped it could be a smooth transition back, but that has not been the case. There has been ample awareness of the end game: now it's here.
The Drive By is a good thing and that's why it has lasted as long as it has.
The concept of an outlet for stream of conscious posts and short notes is a great idea, but not when it becomes a drain on the forum and community at large. The Drive By should never have become an incestuous replacement for the rest of the forum. That it has been left to do so has only bred contradiction and contempt for the basic principles of the forum and the rest of our community. Some so habitually seek this private alternative that they no longer recognize the common sense of creating and contributing to discussion topics (however simply that may be). This is disappointing and unavoidably brings us to the need to disconnect this short circuit in logic.
The vast majority of your posts in the Drive By thread can continue with little or no change. Rather than hitting reply in this thread, you should again be strongly urged to do so in other topics, or by starting your own.
This is not a rejection of your place within the community, but a reminder that it is valued beyond the huddled corner. If your connection to MKO has been a long history, or the people you converse with, then I strongly urge you to reconnect with those feelings and continue to partake without anger or resentment. Our community is more than one thread. Your interests are more than one thread.
In time, the Drive By may return. For now, it will remain closed. Please respect the spirit of the decision and do not attempt to create new versions, or lash out with pointless threads. For now, Mortal Kombat Online needs to grow from this experience. The means are there through existing threads and the start new thread option. Thanks.
