Luxray is cool. I've only played through Gen 4 once, so I really want to do another play through of Pearl. But I don't have an easy way to transfer all of my Pokemon into SoulSilver. >:(

Gen 1
Me - Blue Version
Brother - Red and Yellow
Gen 2
Me - Gold Version
Brother - Silver Version
Gen 3
Me - Ruby
Brother - Sapphire
We stopped there. 2 reasons.
1. We didn't own any DS's.
2. We both dislike Gen 4 and 5.
The first 3 are the best.

What do you dislike about Gen 4 and 5? Have you played them?
I'd say Diamond and Pearl added more depth than Ruby and Sapphire did. The physical/special split was huge, and a much needed change. It's jarring to go back to the older games because of it. Wi-Fi. Return of the day/night cycle. I think it's safe to say from a technical standpoint that the DS games are by far the "best". The Game Boy games were great and are fun to go back to, but the remakes are superior.
My only complaints with Gen 4:
1. Too many legendaries.
2. Rhyperior is the greatest insult to Gen 1 ever. I like every other evolution they added, but they were smoking some bad shit when they designed Rhyperior.
why

Watched playthroughs so I can get the story. Just didn't stick well with me. I liked the simplicity of the old games and the stories better. Old school sucka.

Yeah, Rhyperior looks bad.
Tangela and Lickitung got a good evolution actually.
Farfetch'd, Pinsir, need an evolution already(no baby pre evolution though, I hate those!). Tauros too, I actually thought Bouffalant was Tauros' evolution.

I think everyone thought Bouffalant was Tauros' evolved form.
Just as Alomamola looks like Luvdisc's evolved form.
Anyhoo, I am so sick and tired of Fire/Fighting starters. We've had them for three generations in a row! What's up with that, man?

Why would you fuck a Pokemon?
(>'.')>
If they had remade Yellow Version (LightYellow?) do you think the starter Pokemon would've been Pichu this time?
Interesting Useless InfoThe Pokemon etymologies were interesting to decrypt.
E.g. Arcanine = arcane + canine

Probably not, Pikachu couldn't even evolve in Yellow anyway. But I wish they would have included Jessie and James in FireRed/LeafGreen. Missed opportunity. I wonder if there's a hack that adds them.

Sudowoodo or Tyranitar.
I'm starting a new game of Black and I'm going to hack myself a team of awesome Pokemon.
I'm thinking:
Squirtle (I)
Torchic (III)
Shinx (IV)
Larvitar (II)
Vanillite (V)
Ralts (III)
I like Pokemon with 2 evolutions.
Also, I apparently hate grass Pokemon.

Depends which gen your playing. Mime made some great suggestions, I'd also like to add Aerodactyl, Regirock, and if you're looking for something for earlier points in the game, Golem.

Any in-game team with two starters bugs the crap out of me. Either have the three starters of that region or none at all.
And I never play through with a legendary Pokemon. It just doesn't seem right =\

Milotic = Venus de Milo
Now that's good etymology.

Probopass
Gigalith
Carracosta
Craddily
Armaldo
Rhydon
Rhypeior (fuck the haters)
Omastar
Mastidon
Out of all of them, I'd most recommend Carracosta. I've done best with him/her.

There are also the fossil pokemon worth mentioning, like Kabutops, Armaldo, Archeops, Rampardos... As m0 said, it depends on the gen you're playing.
Edit: Riyakou beat me to it with the suggestions. I almost forgot about Rhyperior, I don't get all the hate, especially with its 140 Att, 130 Def, and Solid Rock ability, but I guess it looks a little weird. Kind of wish the shiny form of it was it's natural look. If you can, go for Rhyperior.

I used Omastar for the first time in my recent LeafGreen play through. I never realized how awesome it is. Nice defense and special attack. Would recommend.

Omastar is freakin' shitastic, man.
Easily among the best of fossils. Kabutops I can do without.
