Somewhat interestingly, I don't think any of the eeveelutions can learn Swift, they only get it if Eevee had it, but (correct me if I'm wrong) even Eevee can't learn the move. According to Bulbapedia, the only way Eevee can get Swift is through the Dream World. If this one can learn Swift on its own, that's definitely something to do with its type. It's also worth noting that Trump Card is a move that only Eevee learns (none of the other eeveelutions)... So far this 'Sylveon' seems to be using Eevee moves, not grown up Eeveelution moves. It might just be a Normal type... Or, maybe since their making a big deal about what type it is, they showed it only with moves learned by Eevee to avoid giving it away. Oh, and the word 'sylph' comes to mind... It is an airy spirit or air elemental.

Espeon can learn swift through level up. lv 30 in gen 2 & 3, lv 29 in gen 4 & BW, lv 17 in B2W2 (i checked the levels on bulbapedia)
My flatmate seems to think that since the first part of its name sounds like 'silver' it could be steel, but it doesn't look metallic.

Sylveon, huh. Maybe it's Normal/Dragon. Light seems more plausible than Sound, as it was introduced in the card game. While Sylv has a Steel ring to it, it also sounds like Sylph, thus it's fairy like appearance. Healers/beneficial Pokeymanz.

Ah, so there's one that can learn it. Still, that makes even less of a case for Swift as evidence of its normal typing, since Espeon is Psychic and learns it.
There's quite a few things the 'Sylv' could imply... The French name "Nymphali" also brings us Nymph, which many people would use synonymously with sylph... But it also relates to the larval stage of some kind of bug. Every clue about this Pokemon just leads nowhere, heh.

Am I able to trade Pokemon from SoulSilver to my copy of Black? Is it possible to do this with a DS Lite and a 3DS XL?
Sylveon's French name, Nymphalia, refers to the French 'nymphe,' which in Englsih is Nympha, a stage in insect growth.
I think it's a bug type.
EDIT: Syleon's English name refers to Slyvia, a genus of bird.
I now have no idea what type it is.
DOUBLE EDIT: Sylveon's German name, Feelinara, refers to 'fee,' which in English means 'nymph' or 'fairy.'
What the hell is this thing's type?

It's a Buggirdary.
I think a sensible conclusion on all its different influences is that it is definitely based on some kind of nymph or fairy-esque thing. Since, the German "fairy" name matches up with the French "nymph" and the English "sylph". All three of those technically mean the same thing, while the bird/bug meanings don't match up across other languages.... Which really strongly points to normal. There's also been ideas raised about gender-specific Eeveelutions... Perhaps both being of the Normal type with Sylveon as the female with a male counterpart that hasn't yet been revealed. I actually really like that idea, to have Normal based eeveelutions that differ based on its gender.
Harle Wrote:
Well, considering both birds and bugs (gnerally) fly, could we just say it's a flying type?
All this guessing is making me sad. And it's Valentine's Day.

Actually, yes, we could, since both birds and bugs fly and a sylph is an air elemental. It makes an equally strong case for flying.

This new Eeveelution seems to me like a "Flying" type. It even (to me) slightly resembles Skyla (not that this dubs it Flying.)

Gender based Eeveelution would also keep with the X/Y genetics theme(there's a DNA helix in the logo)
Maybe it's a presence themed evo, like if Audino is on your team when it evolves? Kyureum opened up a can of worms...
lol feelin' aura It's definately fairy/healy/contest looking.

Not to mention the pink!!! (Chancey, Claifairy, Jigglypuff, Miltank)
My money is on Flying tho... the Butterfly theme, the breezy ribbons, and the name is Sylveon, probably from Sylph, the elemental fairies of Air.

Oh fuck, I forgot this Pokemon Wifi tournament allowed ALL Pokemon... Why didn't I register my freaking Genesect?! I just got owned by a guy with a White Kyruem...
Seriously, Kyogres are freaking everywhere. I'm just so glad these teams don't appear to be prepared for rotation battles.

Do they also allow banned movesets and combinations? Kyogre + Swift Swim anything will sweep many teams.

Sylveon.......hmmmm.......not sure if I like the name. Sylva- and Sylvan- usually used as a description of forests or woodlands. We have a grass eeveelution already and it doesn't look bug to me. But oh well. We'll have to see.
I actually quite like it, it looks good in the game, better than the pictures in the magazine.
Not sure about introducing a new type. But it will add something new to the series I guess.

The LESBIAN pokemon!! i love it, where do you find such theories!?
My flatmate has d/l'd some of the earlier games onto his phone. I''ve started Emerald, (LOVE IT BTW!) and he's playing Blue. We just did the Mew glitch (after days of him cocking things up by not saving at the right time, restarting, walking in wrong places etc...) He's such a n00b but i'm teaching him the ways, lol.

Yup. The rules state only move sets that can be obtained legally (ie, non-glitched) are useable, except for the attacks Sky Drop and Dark Void. I'd understand Dark Void if it was 2 on 2 battles, but these are rotation battles, so it only hits one opponent 80% of the time. May as well ban Spore... Also, Chatot's banned, so Ubers can run around freely and wreck havoc, but not a talking Parrot pokemon. Soul Dew is also banned, because why the fuck not? I mean, White Kyurem, Acreus, and Kyogre? Pfft, anybody can beat them! But not Soul Dew Lati@s!
Of course, I have scrubs disconnecting when I'm winning too. I actually slaughtered a guy 3-0 while he had Kyogre, Tornadus-T and Thundrus on his team, and he disconnected when my Electivire was about to deliver the coup de grace. It was hilarious.
