I personally love them. this is the one thing i want in the game more than fujin. make an option when you first start the game up whether you want to have everyone unlocked or unlock everyone yourself. or include a downlodable code with the game to unlock everyone. Its makes the longevity. i played MkDA and MKD much longer than 9 due to the unlockables.

YES. I've always hated the idea of every character being available from the get-go, tbh.

Yeah like deception. some were easy to find like kenshi and Raiden. but others like Liu kang it took hours to try to get. I like Deadly Alliance's system too with the different oclor coins. make each coin a different game mode. like make one for arcade, another for test your might/luck/sight, another for challenge tower, another for a konquest like Deadly Alliance, and some for story. would make everyone explore the game.
Yes! Oh God yes.
I want most of the characters in the game to be unlockable, like 3/5 of them. Should the roster be 30, that would give us 12 to start and 18 to unlock. Sweet!
Also, I'd also prefer if the majority of unlockable characters were returning characters. It makes the desire to unlock them that much stronger.

But seriously, NRS need to protect their fuckin netcode if they come out with a demo. There need to be one or two characters that nobody knows are in the game, until they find them or simply unlock them. Nothing incredibly hard, but they need to be hidden enough that when you unlock them you didn't expect them to be in the game.

I wish. This is why people put down their games so quickly these days: nothin to stick around for or accomplish.
I want dem unlockables. Shit, Scorpion and Sub-Zero should be locked for being so damn popular. Make em work for it, NRS.

Wouldn't be MK without 'em. I just hope this time they have the good sense not to call them by name in the trophy/acheivement list which will inevitably leak a week or two before release (tweeted Ed about that).
Go back to the way it was in Deadly Alliance. Earn different colored coins to unlock characters. But I would like to see it in a way where you HAVE to earn these coins by doing something during the matches. In order to obtain red coins you have to beat everyone in arcade mode with a fatality. In order to obtain gold coins you have to have at least two flawless victories. In order to obtain platinum coins, you have to do certain combos or uppercut your opponent five times in a match.
But of course, there are those that just WANT everyone unlocked at the start. Where's the fun in that?

I can't see them doing something like Deadly Alliance and Deception where half the cast is locked...I think the general gaming public is past that, especially for a fighting game...
One super secret character that's hard to unlock would be fun tho.

well then include a code with every game you input and download to unlock everyone from the start. i dont want my mkx collecting dust so soon because i get bored of having everyone at the start.

Ed Boon confirmed this wasn't final.
Anyways, Unlockable characters are a MUST

I want an initial full roster of characters... but HINTS throughout the game of secret characters.. Much like MK2... unlocking hidden characters would be an exciting challenge...
I know they will go the route of DLC characters... but I'm hoping for ingame hidden characters as well.

Yes. Do I want a majority of the roster to be unlockable? Probably not, but a good solid amount would be nice. Whether it be purchasing in the krypt, clearing arcade, etc. I usually dislike unlockable characters just by playing story though. I'd rather have to do something outside of story to earn them.
Absolutely not. They're an antiquated concept as far as fighting games go. I have no interest in playing with characters I don't want to use to unlock more characters I don't want to use until I unlock the one I want to use. That's not true replay value, that's annoying busy work.
MK9 got it right. Quan Chi and Cyber-Sub after finishing story mode.

Well that's just like, your opinion man!
Lol. I find it fun unlocking characters, even ones I don't really care for. But I see why some people wouldn't want to I guess.

Hell yes! That option to start with everyone unlocked or have to unlock them could do great. But i too wish we'll have a lot of characters to unlock from the get go! That was also a big part of the fun during MKDA and MKD for me. Great memories. I wish this one will be too.
