I still don't see this as confirmation since their interactions could be exclusive to story mode.

That said, Sonya and Cage are in. Every single interview (including this one) solidifies their presence on the roster. I'm not thrilled about seeing the entire MK1 cast return (I did want Cage back, however), but there's no stopping it now. I can only hope when everything is said in done, there will be some room left for the post-MK4 characters.

I don't mind seeing them both playable but I'd prefer if one of them were DLC. Nothing to do with Cassie, because they'll be so different from her it won't matter. More along the lines of giving other characters a chance. I'd assume whoever becomes DLC would have to be returning and wanted, so one of them would be perfect for that position.

Ditto. Slightly worried the only returning characters we get are the cast of MK1. Loved Cage's play style in MK9, awesome rush down and mad fun to play as, but consider him and Sonya kiiiiinda boring characters story wise. Don't hate them tho, just meh

They wouldn't make builds of the characters and give them variations if they weren't going to be playable in the roster. That would be a waste of time and money on their part. This pretty much confirms they're in.

MKX shapes to be MKDA 2.0, hence the roster is MK1 + newcomers. Fine by me as long as the game delivers a lot of new faces and they will be good.

However, unlike MKDA, where there was no possibility to see new / returning characters until the next game, MKX has enormous advantage, because there will be DLC. So, whatever the initial roster is - is not really that important - there will be other characters added to the game. And if Injustice is any indication, I bet there will be ~8 DLC characters.

Honestly I'll just wait for a gameplay trailer or something until I see them as part of the roster.

Appearing in story mode =/= playable on the roster

It does not confirm at all but I think it is as big as hint as we can get. This is similar to when Ed was talking about Raiden in variation match-ups even before Raiden was announced.

It would be good to see them in to expand a major plot arc. They were set up pretty well in MK9 and it would be fascinating to see how both of them progress together. Johnny Cage and Sonya in my opinion are too important to the plot just to make cameos, they got to be playable.

Ed Boon told the German magazine that Sonya, Johnny, and Liu have variations that highlight their different ages from story mode.

At the same time we know from GamesCom, that variations do not change character appearance, aside from minor things to distinguish one variation from another.

I'm really happy to see Ed and the MK team so excited and confident about the huge potential and possibilities of the Cage/Blade family.

I really can't wait to see the awesomeness that they have prepared for these characters, and how their roles in this new storyline will play out as they've been hyped up to be quite prominent and important.

It really does feel like 20+ years of fan fiction have come to life in the best way possible, and they are treating these characters(and their fans) with the utmost care and respect.

Hopefully they don't disappoint us with BS. For now:

Sonya and Johnny fans = Very happy.

I wish they would stop dragging this out and hurry up and reveal those two pinheads so we can move on with other hopefully more surprising reveals.

I already know that Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade have been confirmed to be in the game. I'm really looking forward to their story implications!

They were a very established couples (possible they were married), so perhaps they didn't want to wait to have children. I can't imagine how Sonya was in labour after her water was broken and then you have Johnny by her side saying it was going to all right and they started talking about what to name their child. I'm normally happy romance is largely sidelined in MK, but I hope we see them share a kiss/sex scene at least. Needs to happen!

Are they playable in the main roster? We'd be seeing young and old versions of Cage and Sonya. The "aged" variations of them will play differently than their previous incarnations. If/when they are revealed, I'm pretty sure they'll have movesets noticeably different than Cassie's.
