So Iron Galaxy has revealed a new character for Killer Instinct, along with a look at the new UI and the first look at some Maya gameplay...

Arc System Works gave us a Guilty Gear Xrd story trailer and showed us gameplay of the two new characters, Sin and Elphelt.

Your move, Netherrealm Studios. What do you got in store for us?

Who's the character for KI? Kim Wu, Tusk, Cinder....or a straight up brand new character?

If Boon or Co is there, they might make us wait. The show runs until Sunday.

Just hoping we get brand new characters unveiled, or the characters from the boot hint.

He appears to be a whole new character, a mummy-like guy.
You can see the trailer here:

He appears after the Maya gameplay.

That trailer is cool. The mummy is for sure a new character. He looks awesome.

I feel like an XBOX ONE purchase coming on ????

If they show something, then they do. If they don't, they don 't.

Just because KI and Guilty Gear do something doesn't mean MK has to.

KI and GG are competition. They all appeal to the fighting game community. And the more they show, the more they pull in the crowd. If NRs doesn't step it up, they will lose the crowd's interest.

Being indifferent and ignoring other fighting games' marketing strategies by leaving the crowd dissatisfied... that's just bad marketing from NRS/WB's side.

Japan hates Mortal Kombat. Why would NRS reveal anything there?

MK has nothing to fear from either of those 2, if I'm honest. Sales wise, KI did okay but would've done way better as a full game at retail. And GG has always been a niche game.

MK is the second most popular fighting game out there besides SF. MK already has the casual interest. (See the reveal trailer's 11 million views) You couple that with the fact that NRS knows how to make a full game with lots of content, and there's nothing to worry about.

Does it really make sense to fly out Ed or someone from NRS to Tokyo, to pitch a game the Japanese don't care for? That's a waste of money. I'm surprised KI did it since Xbone is a total failure in Japan.

IG has provided information about Killer Instinct at EVERY major event. Plus some. It keeps the fans satisfied and aren't left starving for information.

... Unlike NRS with MKX.

What did they do for GamesCom exactly?

And to be fair, they revealed Maya back at EVO. She was JUST NOW shown gameplay with a new character tease. But that would be like NRS showing a picture of Raiden back at EVO, then showing some gameplay 2 months later with Kano being hinted at.

They made a live stream on Twitch showing ALL the new updates for Season 2, such as game balancing, new character moves, aerial combo/counter breakers, each character's new recapture moves etc.

You can see the stream and read about all the changes for Season 2 here:

Even though it doesn't look promising, don't forget about the "surprise" shit Boon can pull off. It doesn't have to be on the list and it won't be, if it's a surprise.

Just saying.

Ok yeah I remember that.

Like I said, MK has nothing to worry about.

I have not heard of KI before perusing these forums but after seeing gameplay of it I must say that MK has nothing to fear from that franchise from a graphics perspective.

..Gameplay wise.. well I cannot speak for KI nor MKX. but MKX looks far better.

I'm speaking entirely from a sales perspective.

KI is a very good fighter, and is quite refreshing from other fighting games, but lacks content and an overall wow factor. It's fun to play, easy to get into, and surprisingly deep. But there's nothing there that would keep a casual player there for more than 2 weeks at best.

MK on the other hand, has the casual appeal. Even if the FGC labeled MKX unplayable and a flaming pile of dogshit, MKX would still sell better than KI and GG. Why? The casuals are the majority of buyers. And since casuals love MK's over the top violence with Fatalities, it'll do just fine.

Heh, well, if you are so certain about MKX, then NRS might as well not reveal anything before the game's release.

Honestly they wouldn't really have to until maybe 2 months before release. MK can sell on name alone. I'm not saying MK shouldn't market itself. And their marketing could definitely be better.

But just because we're salivating waiting for the next reveal, doesn't mean they should spend money on round trip tickets to Japan to market a game that won't do well over there.

What I am talking about is the consistency of providing new information about their game - not sales numbers or popularity of the game.

Yes, NRS could put a halt to all marketing and still sell better than GGXrd and KI... That was not the point of this thread though.

It's about keeping the interest going, to provide information about their game, revealing stuff to us to make us, the community, feel hype!

I get that.

But they have been consistent with the information. We've been getting a character per month since it was revealed. We got Goro this month, Kano back in August, and Raiden in July. And we know MK will be at the Brazil Game Show in early October, so we can expect another character there.

Granted, the information isn't as consistent as I'd like. But it is consistent.

MK isn't popular in Japan. I'm surprised they revealed a new KI trailer, which is a XBOX exclusive, lol.

This is probably the best post I've read all week so far.

Besides, aren't they going to be doing something in Brazil soon?
