Yes, *some* of her data has been downloaded, but let's also remember that there was still a sizable chunk of data that followed Jason's release despite the initial download. They most likely just dropped in what had already been completed. Point is, Tanya is still in the final stages.

Perhaps, but I'm just getting tired of seeing complaints left and right around these parts. I remember when being an MK fan 20 years ago was fun. Now I feel like many are becoming privileged and self-important, and virtually everything about Tanya's appearance has been bringing out the worst. don't worry i don't blame you, i wrote a thing about this how people should stop it, and so many people literally told me to shut the fuck up. i grew up with this game watching my older brothers and their friends/cousins fight each other. but yeah people are never happy they ask for a character they get him or her then its. OK bring in Fujin now. they showed us Tanya in story mode people bitch she ain't black enough she looks like a tranny why doesnt she look like her deception version omg i hate this game. NRS reveals to have updated her made her skin darker and gave her white eyes and STILL people are not happy i guess it's just no one is ever happy until they get all their stages, characters, fatalities, etc they want but even then they will have something to say.

Thanks... I try not to get too snippy, but sometimes it gets the best of me. If everyone got every character they wanted in MKX, they would've complained about a lack of new characters. If they got an abundance of new characters, they would've complained about the lack of classic characters. I feel sorry for NRS these days, they seem to have a lose-lose situation... well, aside from the millions they're raking in, but still.

Guys, I figured it out. I figured out why Tanya was totally redesigned:

Look at the new, non-playable female characters. Look at Li Mei, Sareena, old Tanya and Frost:

They all have the same face. They're all the same model. With the exception of makeup that is the original generic female model just like we see Kotal Kahn here with the generic male model:


Tanya's outfit was mostly done at the end of development, but not her model. And as we see with skins, the costumes and bodies are created seperately.

Going off characters who were involved in story mode- that's why Bo'Rai'Cho.

Sareena, Li Mei, Fujin, Rain, Tanya and Bo'Rai'Cho had more significant roles than characters like Ermac and Reptile who did nothing but show up for one or two scenes to lick Kotal's big blue balls and disappear.

Reiko would simply be fan service for those who wanted him because of the comics and Frost pretty much the same.

"Girl Sub-Zero" is actually pretty popular amongst mainstreamers. Not only that but I liked her interaction with Cassie in the comics and would like to see the rivalry continued.

While her model was definitely unfinished (they said as much even), the female NPCs do not have the same face. Frost and Sareena, perhaps, but Li Mei has a unique face (she looks Chinese) and Tanya's face, weirdly enough, *changes* throughout story mode. The most polished one is actually when she first appears, talking to Mileena and Rain -- defined cheekbones, smaller jaw, closer to the finished model now.

I do think initial Tanya was probably built off a Kitana model they tanned like one shade and that's why her skin tone was the wrong color (though it also changes over the course of story mode).

They weren't more significant though. Tanya's role is comparable to Ermac's and Reptile's. You fight them all twice, all play the lackey role. They're the same. Li Mei, Fujin, Bo don't even do that.

Defending it by saying "No they weren't more significant, they were ALL lackeys" is even worse. lmao

Character not even in the roster shouldn't have the same amount of impact in story mode as characters who are on the roster and fully playable.

Saying "Tanya, Rain ect were lackeys just like Reptile & Ermac" is telling of NRS's shitty writing. You proved my point further.

Tanya does set mileena free which is the first part of the story so she pretty important.

I don't know that I necessarily believe that. I don't think story should necessarily dictate the playable roster or vice versa.

Although yeah Rain and Tanya both should've been in the roster proper.

I was worried that the total redesign might mean they would change her voice. But that's unlikely, because it's Jennifer Hale.

But I got to thinking, pretty much every other voice actor involved voices multiple characters, yet the great Jennifer Hale only voices Tanya, a minor character...

Anyone else suspect she might be voicing another currently unannounced DLC character...?

This x100, I don't mind Jason and Predator but seeing all the people like "Now they need to add So and So from Blah blah" is annoying. I want fuckin MK characters not random people from movies.

A star like Jennifer Hale voicing Tanya just indicates they planned for Tanya to be playable from the start.

Nah, I am sure she was always intended as DLC and I think Rain was always intended as an NPC. The writers have said they didn't know from Boon et al who the DLC would be when they wrote the story mode. I don't think NRS anticipated how mad the NPCs would make some (entitled imo) people.
