26 - 28 is a safe bet. I just hope the final design of the select screen improves before release. The floating boxes with the forest in the background is kinda dull. Bring the hype, NRS!!! HYYPPEEE!!!

Not only do we need a less boring select screen, but we need some GOOD select screen music like we did for MK1-MKD. Seriously, as soon as Armageddon came around the select screen music has just gone done hill. I barely remember the MKVSDCU and MK9 select music.

True, but few things are ever confirmations. It's a strong enough lead that there's more than 24.

Yeah, but Boon specifically said at E3 to pay attention to the empty space between character slots. That along with the fact that almost all the silhouettes were fake outlines tells me the select screen was a red herring from day one.
I think the Injustice select screen was different at the e3 reveal, but even if it wasn't, they never hinted otherwise unlike MKX.

But just because 26, maybe 28, characters are likely, doesn't mean some of the absurd claims on here of 32+ characters at launch aren't completely ludicrous.

I wouldn't disagree with that, but the difference between 26 and 24 is huge when the roster slots are so competitive.

Nah, Boon said it would have about as many as Deception. There's only going to be about 8 or 9 new characters.

I would be really happy if this game has at least 32 characters.

May I ask, who is Chan Kang?
Liu Kang's younger brother who (in the game canon) mysteriously disappeared. I was hoping that he can make a debut as a playable character and replace Kang with his own unique moves.
He also appeared in the first movie, but was killed in the first scene by Shang Tsung.

In actual Mortal Kombat canon, Liu Kang does have a younger brother. However, he is named Chow in Liu Kang's MKI bio, and his status is unknown. (taken from Chan Kang's MK wiki page)
