Why would Kitana be an unlockable, though? Seems an incredibly random choice. Shinnok makes more sense, for example.

I'm sticking with my announcement prediction

Knowing how Ed Boon can only be trusted about 45% of the time, and also how the MK community likes to latch on to his tid bits of info and blow it out of proportion, I'm not buying into anything until its officially stated.

We've seen 24 spaces on the select screen. 24 is the number I'm expecting to see when the game hits shelves. Anything more will be a pleasant surprise.

We've been told various bits on the number of new characters. At first it was supposed to be "All new characters with only a few classics," then it became "The most new characters ever introduced," and most recently, we've had "About as many new characters as introduced in Deception." All in all, I'm expecting somewhere between 7 and 9 new characters.


As for DLC? We had four in the last game, so I'm expecting them to raise that number to about 6 or 8. In the last game, the formula was a Trilogy-era character, A 3d-era character, a new character, and a guest character. I'm thinking they'll keep that formula.

As for what the final roster will look like? Anything could happen, but this is my prediction (not necessarily what I WANT).

I'm thinking we'll get 28 as well,(29 with Goro) i think the slow amount of reveals was purposefully done, so that NRS could finish certain character's before the comic hinted at people they didn't want revealed yet. I'm hoping that during the three month drought, that all that time (holidays excluded) was devoted to finishing up characters.

I don't care about the quantity. So far, we have 12 announced characters. Two of them are my all-time favorites: Kitana and Kung Lao. The only one I'm not sold on is Ferra/Torr. But I'm gonna try the Vicious variation, and probably I'll like it.

So I'm happy with everything I've seen so far. It's like they're making the game just form me. It would be "pushy" to ask for more of my favorites. But MORE THAN HALF THE ROSTER is yet to be revealed, so I'm expecting even more pleasant surprises.

To put it shortly, I'll be happy with 24 characters + 4 DLC. But, yeah, probably the final number will be higher.

This exactly. We're getting Deadly Alliance 2.0. It'll be focused around MK1, MK2 and new characters, with only two or three characters from MK3 and up. If I had to guess, we're getting:
-every MK1 character, except Shang
-every MK2 character, except Baraka (and the bosses, ofc)
-one or two MK3 characters, most likely Ermac and/or Cyrax
-one or two MK4 characters, Quan Chi and Fujin or Shinnok
-one or two MK5+ characters, just Kenshi, maybe Bo' Rai Cho
-8 or 10 new guys


Same here. Some people here have expectations way too high. I can't wait to hear all the bitching when it's revealed there's only 24 without DLC. If I'm wrong, it's a pleasant surprise then. It's a win-win for me.

It looks like everyone completely forgot that Shawn Himmerick already essentially confirmed more than 24.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything. It's no confirmation. Here is why 24 can happen:
-Select screen has always shown 24
-Injustice had 24
-Three variations for 24 characters must be tough enough as is
-If they made more, why not hold them off as DLC? (that's the cynic in me speaking)
-They said the same thing about MK9's select screen not being final, but in the end it was

But just because 26, maybe 28, characters are likely, doesn't mean some of the absurd claims on here of 32+ characters at launch aren't completely ludicrous.

It's all simply fun and speculation. If somebody wants to predict 50 characters, who cares? Everyone has their preferences and own thoughts on what the roster should be- let them. We're all adults here.

Personally, I don't know what to think. The fact that things have been pretty slow with the reveals is making it seem like the 24 roster just might be true and tbh I wouldn't mind it. I do however would like a nice amount of DLC. I'm really hoping for a good 8 DLC fighters, since MK9 had 4, Injustice had 6, and MKX having 8 would make sense. Though I could settle for six.

So a roster number between 30-32 overall would be perfect for me. I'm more concerned with there being a good balance between the newbies, the vets, and the 3D characters than I am of the roster count.

I don't think the starting roster will be anymore than 26. And I have a feeling we'll get 6 additional characters through DLC. Not even going to try guessing the roster because reasons.

26 - 28 is a safe bet. I just hope the final design of the select screen improves before release. The floating boxes with the forest in the background is kinda dull. Bring the hype, NRS!!! HYYPPEEE!!!
