I've got this vibe that Raiden will die around the ending of MKX story mode. That is if he's not in any accordance to the central plot.
This is speculation.

Currently Raiden, Shinnok and Quan chi are the only ones connected to the central plot.
Definitely a bold prediction. However, anything is possible.

If Raiden dies at the beginning or in the middle of MKX's story, he'll probably come back as a pawn under Quan Chi's and/or Shinnok's control. (He did promise his own soul to Quan Chi in MK9.)
If that happens, it would be a more palatable version of Dark Raiden to me.

It would be kinda cool to have Dark Raiden back, like it was always destined to happen (same as Bi Han becoming Noob) in some way or another, and also because 'Light' Raiden is no longer good at being 'good'.
As for him dying permanently, i find this scenario very unlikely, but might just make more of an impact because of its relative unexpectedness.

Same here.
Regardless of his story relevance in future games, Raiden is way too iconic to be left out as a playable character. The UMK3 roster felt empty without him.

I do want that to happen.
It's been said a million times but honestly it should happen. Let Fujin become Protector of Earthrealm and actually go through with it. Not just "Ok Fujin, you're Earthrealm's protector now so go sit in that corner and shut up." I know MK is moving in a new direction, and they probably don't want to retread old territory. But here is where they could make it different by having Fujin take a more important role.
As for Raiden dying, anything is possible.

Either way, this will be Raiden's end.

I always like having Raiden present, even if he was a BlunderGod last time around. I'd say he's the third most iconic MK character right behind Scorp and Subby, and he's one of my favorites.
If we're gonna get someone killed off permanently, I'd like to see Quan Chi finally get whats coming to him at the hands of Scorpion. Much like his arcade ending in MK9, but have it be canon.

And this is pretty much why I believe Raiden will die in MKX. Simply for the new direction the series is going now.
Well at least if Raiden dies, that's ONE necessary death in the new timeline. In the meantime, I made this motivational poster :B
Death to Raiden

Lmao, like hell no! Quan is much better and smarter than the lame god they call Raiden. Much so better than Scorpion.

Haha, I feel you, believe me. I love to hate him. So manipulative, cunning, and smug. All the more satisfied his death coming at the hands of Scorpion would make me
No I don't think so. They already killed him off in Deception and brought him straight back as dark Raiden. And like somebody said above, once he dies he goes to Quan Chi and Shinnok. Raiden seems to have the Scorpion effect going for him, as soon as he dies he comes back. And it would be nice to see Scorpion FINALLY get his revenge and kill Quan Chi. I like Quan and everything, but its time for him to go and Scorpion to move on to something else.

I think the real question is what are they going to do with fire god Liu. We know they're going with this idea, we just don't know how!

If Raiden does die and return under Quan and Shinnok, it will be fine. Why? Because, he will be controlled by the best...Quan and Shinnok.
Start bowing now Raiden and pray for an early DEATH!
Muahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa!!!

Oh come on! Quan Chi deserves a really painfull death, like Sub-Zero freezing him very slowly, shattering his bones one by one, and Scorpion stabbing him nonstop for days, starting with his eyes!!! A beautifull and long torture, that would satisfy me.
Don't get me wrong, he has a great role as evil, he is doing a good job, but he would deserve it.
And who cares if it's in story? Quan Chi would be playable anyways, and Ed Boon himself said that no one is truly dead in MK so he could return even after something like this with a twisted plot, or a timejump.

Nah... if anything they'll allow him to progress in the Elder God status so that we can again get new Gods into the mix. I'd hate for that to ultimately happen obviously but, seems like the most likely progression for Raiden.
I also like the idea of bringing back Dark Raiden but, they'd really need to write him well. The last time they did it was good under Vogel but, there were still alot of holes in everything.
