One of the tidbits: Boon says Mortal Kombat X will have a roster at least as big as the last Mortal Kombat — which shipped with nearly 30 fighters — and that "obviously" downloadable characters will follow.

Nice find. I like the 'conscious effort' he mentioned about the more modest (practical) outfits, which seems to be a reaction from the consumers' feedback.

And at least means at minimum so we could even see more than that the first time around. Which I think is great if we want to see a lot of old characters as well as the new characters that the team wants to include.

No problem folks!

I was looking for the more down to earth interviews, and found this one. Polygon's been pretty decent before, so it was a good look!

I love the new practical approach to the women's clothing, especially while fighting.

At least 28 would be AWESOME, at most 34 I'm thinking.

Every new little detail that emerges from these interviews, the more excited I get. It seems as though every decision being made, is made to blow MK9 out of the water. Obviously the three character variations are a huge deal, but they're hiring pro EVO players to give their input and make the game as balanced as can possibly be. That's going above and beyond the call of duty as far as I'm concerned. Even the little stuff like making the females dressed more modestly is another detail that's going to make the final product that much better.

As a 32 year old married man with 4 kids, half nude video game characters don't do much for me, however, I'm getting a little concerned that the Evo crowd and hardcore fighting game community are pushing to essentially " cut the balls. " off of the MK series.

MK has always been about being over the top, and exciting to watch. I really hope that Boon and NRS don't start taking to much input from the Evo crowd or we are gonna start seeing heroic brutalities, truce-alities and Kittana in a fucking burqa.

Just because an aspect of the game doesn't add something to the competitive aspect of it doesn't mean it should be toned down or eliminated.

I like cinematic style attacks, I like story mode, I like fatalities, and I have no problem with seeing half of Sonya's boobs hanging out. ITS A VIDEOGAME.

Maybe I'm ranting, but hearing Maxamillion talk about how some of the fatalities are a little "too gory" , and then reading an interview where boon says they are toning things down because of feedback is worrying me.

It's fucking Mortal Kombat.

I kinda like that they made Cassie dressed as a military woman should, but in case of the Edenian girls (not SIndel) and Sheeva I think their attire was alright because they come from another realm. Think about it. Shao Khan also wears a skirt and is half naked in a world where people can generate fire and ice balls from their hands. That's a cultural thing.

I'm happy. I'm hoping a large cast again means we get to see more not often used characters and I hope these cameos Boon has been speaking of are the dead characters from the previous game. They let some characters stay dead in Deception for a game, time to do the same I think.

skein is exactly right. This is exactly what I think.

I think Sonya's outfit was over the top only because she was in the Special Forces. She should be expected to wear more than a vest without an undershirt or even bra. Its fine if her stomach was exposed its just all she was wearing was a vest. Don't get me wrong, im fine with the outfit. I just think that the people complaining were right.

As for Kitana, Jade and Mileena, their outfits were fine. They were more revealing than Sonya's, but thats okay since they are from a different realm. When the characters were first established, they were already in one-pieces. NetherRealm studios merely expanded on their sexuality by revealing more. Thats fine though, as I stated, they are from another realm.

I hope that if Sonya returns, she has a costume maybe not as covered as Cassie, but less revealing than her MK9 costume.

But I also hope that if Kitana, Jade and Mileena return, they get outfits that maybe aren't as sexualised as MK9, but almost as revealing.

Back on topic, that is great news. At least 28 characters. Im thinking it will be around 32/34/36. I have a feeling that there will be another row of characters underneath.

To a certain extent, I agree, but I like that MK is going in a more serious direction in terms of character appearance, and I enjoy it.

One of the other main takeaways is that we're not stuck with just 24 characters here, so speculation will be wide open until we see a select screen closer to final build.

I really appreciate that Boon understands the importance of this game. That he is essentially in the same position now as he was when making MK2.

If NRS can pull it off....and I believe they will...we're looking at a game that can be equally impactful as the original Mortal Kombat 2. That's crazy shit IMO.

"And expect the game's female fighters to be dressed more modestly. Boon describes that as "a conscious effort." "When I look back on MK9, I think we turned the dial a little too high with the female anatomy and stuff like that," he says, acknowledging how ridiculous series veteran Sonya Blade looked in her cleavage-revealing vest and crop top. Her daughter, Cassie, wears a full body tactical suit with refreshingly little exposure."

Things rarely go this good. Finally, no more hookers...

30 fighters is good news. Hopefully a mix of new blood, MK1-3 icons, and a few MK4-Deception guys who need to be revamped and embellished on further.

As far as females go... I hope to god they're all not made into stick shaped prudes just to appease a few whiny feminists, so I vote "HELL NO" to seeing the Edenian babes flat chested and dressed like nuns.

I'd rather have more variety than all follow the same code- characters like Cassie Cage and D'Vorrah should be more believable and covered up (to appeal more to female players), while slightly more exaggerated -physique wise- sex symbols like Kitana, Jade etc. would saunter about and do battle in revealing outfits (for male players). Soul Caliber managed to do that.

We are not prudes or feminists, because we don't want every single woman in the game to dress and look like hookers. If every guy were dressed like Shao Kahn, you can bet there would be tons of complaints on that front too.

And that's exactly what we want. A balance. And not just simply to appeal female players. I'm a guy, and I get simply frustrated when a game shows you how creative it is with costume designs, and has almost every single guy in the game run around in really complex and intricate designed outfits, but the women are reduces to tits and ass. Every, single, one of them.

Wait, how would D'Vorah be more believable if she dressed up more? We know nothing about her. That's like saying Mileena should be dressed up more after only seeing a picture of her (if she were a new character). How about you actually wait to know who D'Vorah is, before judging whether or not she's portrayed correctly. wink

And if anything, Kitana is the one who should be better dressed, as it would fit her personality more.

I think D'Vorah could actually be dressed in little to nothing. Her body is covered in chitin armor. There is really nothing to be seen.

Words of wisdom bro...well said!

My heart dropped when I read that part of the article about the female clothing and clothing in general, because that sounds like the beginning of the end. MK was awesome because they always did something different and unique and was willing to push boundaries... be it fatalities, costume designs, and I love the back story of the characters, that's why most of us are fans since the beginning. Now it looks like Boon is giving in to the nay sayers? WTF man? As ridiculous as Sonya's MK9 outfit was, at least it was unique...Now Cassie comes along and everyone is saying she looks like Jill Valentine, Nina Williams, hell she could even be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Where's the unique MK flair?. I'm not saying she should wear something skimpy, but NRS shouldn't compromise their artistic integrity. By giving in to one thing...soon Fatalities will be toned down or cut out completely and it'll be wrong for the women to show any skin and even worst, the females might be taken out completely...I hope you know what you are doing NRS...

That, right there, is the textbook definition of overreaction.

"Oh no! NRS are actually designing some women normally, like they did before MK9. The end is nigh!"

Let's not forget that MK didn't build their foundation on being unique. Most their characters are rip-offs of other characters. And that's just fine. So a few people compare Cassie to Jill and Nina. So what? At least Cassie actually looks badass. Sonya in MK9, did not.
