Tanya and Jade. I don't get all this love for them at all. One just betrays everything left and right as her storyline and the other has been nothing but Kitana's bobo for nearly 20 years.

True, both Jade and Tanya lacks alot story-wise. I just like their gameplay, looks and the potential of their characters to evolve into something more.

Now that you've mentioned it, I feel like Deception missed a great opportunity to do something awesome with Jade. But they decided to do just do nothing important with her... at ALL. Which is a shame since they showed her a lot more, you'd think they had something awesome for her story... And it just turned out that she had some gripe with Tanya. Her ending was so bland it was painful. "I'm about to be attacked by Tarkatans, oh look, Tarkatan essence! I'll throw that at Tanya and there!" Boom, that's it.

The fuck was that about?

And yes, they could have obviously had done something else with Tanya but you know, if their main objective with her is to make her the ultimate betrayer, then so be it. I personally don't mind, but I will agree with you that Tanya is an overrated character.

No character is overrated.

Human and Enenra Smoke- overrated. In MKD/MKA, Enenra Smoke looks like crap! As for human Smoke, we have enough "human ninjas" as it is so what's the hype around that? We don't need anymore. Plus cyber Smoke was always coolest anyway and there are only 2 other cyber ninjas NOT counting Sub-Zero. Yeah, he doesn't count. Should have never happened in the first place.

Reiko- Just because Reiko teased us by putting Shao Khan's helmet on, he became this big thing. I never really understood that. He looks like Batman's sidekick Nightwing and from the neck down he was another pallet swap in MK4.
Granted, he looked a little more badass in MKA, Reiko can NEVER replace Shao Khan as a boss. There's just no comparison. Overrated!

Meat- Just like his name, a big walking wad of meat.. Smh

Ashra- story wise she's interesting. Gameplay wise, she's uninteresting.

Nitara- Vampires have no place in an MK game IMO, I just don't see it.

I can agree with human smoke. There was sooo much hope from smoke fans coming into MK 9. They thought he would be developed more as a result of Subz being cyber.

Was that the case? Nope. He literally has nothing now. At least before he had the tragedy thing going for him. It's because the formula was right the first time.

Scorpion has had the same story for the last 20 dam years. He's not even relevant in the story at all.

Quan Chi is just a fucking troll, dude manages to survive every complex situation. He is basically designed to fuck with everyone in the worst ways. Hes a great villain but dam.

Raiden NOT only does he fuck up ONCE, he does it TWICE!!! Raiden can't win a tournament with out being amped by the elders or without Liu Kang. Raiden not only did he blow up the time line he took more than half of the good guys with it.

At this point, I don't think people are stating who they feel are overrated.

This I'm going to agree with. The whole point of a character being overrated is that in which people have a higher opinion of (someone or something) than is deserved. I really don't see a lot of nice stuff being said about Scorpion, so I don't get why he's being thrown in when he's really not that overrated as some tend to think.

Which is why I said that title rightfully goes to "Tremor." This character has hardly done ANYTHING in the series other than being a "boss" in a game that hardly gets any respect from the fans. But for some ungodly reason, people LOVE this guy. For what? Having earth powers. That. Is. It. That is literally the ONLY reason I see from people who thrive on wanting to have this guy appear in a game finally. Because he has earth-based powers. It's not because he's from the Lin Kuei, it's not because he works with Kano and the rest of his dragon clan. It is solely because he's got earth powers.

Yeah, people can feel other characters are overrated. That's fine. However, I just don't see a character that's been around for a very long time be so overrated more than a guy who has made one measly little appearance and has a fan base as big as some of these recurring characters have. I just don't get it and it blows my mind out of proportion.

In order to really determine which characters in the MK universe are overrated you must consider a few things from an unbiased perspective.

1. Even if you don't like a certain character, is that character REALLY talked about a lot if at all?
(Example) Stryker may be considered overrated by some and while he does indeed have a fan base, he isn't really talked about that much. If anything he's one of the underdogs.

2. From an UNBIASED perspective, can you understand why a certain character/s would receive so much attention?
(Example) Scorpion and Sub-Zero are being thrown out there A LOT regarding this subject matter but if you look at these 2 from an unbiased perspective, you can clearly see why people gravitate toward them. The fact that they get so much attention does not make the overrated. In fact, because so many people say that they're overrated, it just further proves how popular those characters are and deservingly so.

NOTE: I was ready to add Baraka to my overrated list, but from an unbiased perspective, I can SEE why people like him so much. (The blades coming from his arms are pretty cool) and I'm not much of a Baraka fan.

3. We have to consider how popular certain characters really are because some characters are not very popular, and yet they receive a greater amount of attention than they deserve.
(Example) Meat and Tremor fall under this category. Why are people pushing so hard for Meat? I do like Tremor but what impact did these two really have on MK? Overrated.

I don't think Kuai Lang is really overrated because he has a very fluent story and consistent development to his gameplay.

He's an all-around good character, to me at least. With that, I feel any adulation he gets is well deserved.


As for Scorpion, I feel he gets far too much credit than he deserves. He hasn't done much over the last two decades other than revenge trips and teleport kicks. To me, he is highly overrated, and I don't think he deserves the legacy he has.

Truly, his only real claim to fame is being more familiar than everyone else, and that's because he's shown more than everyone else.

Mileena is way way more interesting. Kitana is just another bad-ass princess.. Mileena's something more.

Scorpion is famous for "get over here". It's become the tagline to Mortal Kombat pretty much. Everybody who isn't even an MK fans quotes that line. Scorpion's story is fine to me. I don't mind him always seeking revenge. Although I could see how some would think it's stale.
