Not just because of him but mainly because I have no interest in playing the same characters I played in mk9 again. Ermac & Reptile being the only exception.
This makes me look bad because of me being a tekken fan they recycle to. So I guess in a way it kinda levels itself out. But Tekken is generally good at adding more NEWER characters to their games to keep things fresh. MKX is doing that with Kotal, Cassie, and FT. But that's really where it ends for now until more is shown.

The last good new characters in Tekken were the ones in Tekken 5. With Tekken 7, the only one I can say looks good is Shaheen. Maybe Katarina but that's because I have a weakness for Latinas. I still haven't forgiven them for Lars and Alisa.
Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, and Kotal Kahn are better than any of Tekken's newest characters by far.

You have to admit though. Tekken has a good consistency rating on adding newer characters. T5 it was Asuka, Lili, Dragunov, Feng, Raven, Jinpachi.
T6 we had Leo, Lars, Bob, Alisa, Miguel, Zafina.
TT2 (Non Canon) we had a lot of Returnees yes. But look at the years and span of them. I think honestly if MK wanted to bring back old characters for players they should just keep the Trilogy style of games for when that generation console is coming to a close kinda how they did MKA.
Then I'd be accepting of dead or old character returns. This is why tekkens roster amazes me and I love the franchise.

For me, it's Quality > Quantity. Sure Tekken always squirts out new characters but if 2 out of 6 are the only ones people like then that's no good.
And it's not like MKX is short on newbies. We still have Bowman, possibly Erron Black, probably Takeda and maybe Jacqui Briggs. So while yes, the last few reveals have all been returnees, there's still some new blood coming.
I will agree MK should do TTT style games though. I'm down for a non-canon Armageddon 2.

I have to disagree about the quanity over quality bro. Even with all these new characters TEKKEN releases builds in Japan arcades. Thus helping them gather frame traps, frame data, netcode insight etc before a console release. Has there been OP characters even after a console release? Sure there has. Bob was hella op in T6, not game breaking like he was in arcades but definitely top tier.
Tekken has all these newer characters but they still balance them out properly. The fact that MK doesn't do anything like this and rushes testers to test a game for a little over a few months is what causes the more broken side. MK9's kabal, lao, and cyrax are a perfect example of Broken. Well lao was fixed But Kabal and Cyrax... Need I say more. How many tekkens have you gone thru that dealt with that much BS? Exactly.

To be fair though, MK has had several new characters introduced each game outside of the trilogy games(MKT, MKA), of course, MK9 being the exception as it's a reboot/retelling of MK1-3.
MK2: 7 new playable characters
MK3: 8 new playable characters
MK4: 7 new playable characters
MKDA: 8 new playable characters (not including mokap)
MKD: 8 new playable characters
MKX is likely to get 3-4 more new playable characters, which would make up 1/4 of the roster.

People who don't purchase a game because 1 character doesn't make it give me a hearty laugh. You're basically a bigger fan of that 1 character than you are of Mortal Kombat. Good riddance.

Someone can like a franchise and not like every character or only like a select few. I love the X-Men franchise but the only X-Men I like are Cyclops & Jean Grey. Do I skip out now and again when they're covering characters I don't necessarily give a shit about? Sure do. Does that make me any less of a fan of the overall product? Nope, not at all.

On the other hand, the theory that just because you're a fan of something automatically means if you skip an entry for any reason what-so-ever makes you any less of a fan or not a fan at all is completely, utterly absurd.
If Shinnok or whoever isn't in the game and that makes him feel he wouldn't enjoy the game enough to warrant a 60 or more purchase on a friggin' video game, who the fuck cares? He can enjoy the franchise in his own way. Sorry, but last I checked, there aren't set regulations on what it means to be a fan and how to enjoy a franchise. That's just fucking ridiculous.

Wise words from a respectable user.
You are correct. That would be like telling fans of Colossus or Juggernaut you are not among us because you don't like the merging of Colossusnaut lmao. Ridiculous is right.
That doesn't mean I hated the character, but I didn't agree with the direction they took with them. Same way i feel about some of the dead/undead returnees in this game.
It's purely preference, not hate.

MK1to3 Kill most leave a few. I just see the same trend following now only difference is Smoke is now human, Sub a Cyborg? idk if he still is. What I'm getting at is MKX might as well be going back to it's roots of pre-reboot which makes me scratch my head at why it even needed to if this just seem like a directional continuation of past games history.
I really hoped that MK9 would of rebooted and NRS would of handled their characters differently. Hsu Hao is dead. Leave him dead and continue to do so please! This is why games like gears of war has my respect. Characters like Tai, Dom, etc dying made it heartfelt but there was no reboot to bring them back once they died that was it. MK can't seem to do this and it sucks.
The only characters who honestly deserved to be in MKX is newcomers, Gods and Undead like Scorpion.
This is why I'm not as excited as the rest of you. Is the games look and graphics great? Fuck yes it is. X-RAYS, Visuals, Fatalities, Character models, Lighting, Textures, Particle Efex never looked better. This is the games strong suite most definitely. I just am not a fan of the mk9 returnees at all.

I feel people overthought the whole reboot thing,
I think it was more of a way of rewriting the dead end of a story they had written, this "reboot" gave them a chance to start back at the point where it started to go wrong

Exactly.
They can play fine and balanced, but a large majority of people don't like the newer characters. And if people don't like them, who's going to play them? I can honestly say I'll probably never use Claudio and LC. Maybe LC for trolling but that's it. And let's be honest, it's not hard to balance Tekken when you recycle 90% of movesets.
MK's newest batch has got mostly good reception. The only one people are still kinda iffy about is Ferra/Torr but hey, 3 out of 4 is better than 2 out of 6.

It's probably nothing but take a good close look at the tower on te right and on te left, in the left tower on the bottom I think you can see Shinnok, in the right tower you can see Kitana with her fans, right below there is someone who looks like Bo Rai Cho, could be wrong but just saw that.

God Tekken 7, it's just...I don't think I'll be buying that one (A rental at best if Kunimitsu were to somehow be in the game) It's shaping up to be the Tekken4 of it's time. I don't even want to post in the Tekken thread in General Discussion just to complain either but oh god Harada wtf are you even doing?
Anyway as for dead characters I somewhat agree.
I mean there was no way they were going to keep Kitana, Kung Lao and Jax dead for 1 game and I don't miss Cyber Kuai Liang so I don't mind them coming back ...but then again if they bring back Nightwolf, Shang Tsung or Shao Kahn for no real reason then to default to characters they know rather than taking a chance on new or returning 4-6 era characters than I'll be pretty damn disappointed.
