They should not bother with Kitana unless they can actually think up a reason she should be involved beside the obligatory kumbaya-mylord good guy team up.

Kitana is the more popular one, so if that is what NRS is looking at, then she is the one that is most likely to return.

However, story-wise, Mileena would make most sense.

Kitana has some of the best chances of returning out of the dead MK9 cast. She was hella popular online, in tournament, and among story lovers. It bears mentioning that one of the QA testers for MKX was a Kitana main in addition to being one of the best MK9 players ever (he earned the name "Kabal Killer" for a reason).

The same can be said about Millenia teaming up with whoever is the villain in turn. However, Kitana has many characters' storylines revolve around her, while Millenia doesn't.

Mileena is still alive an well when the story begins so I can`t think of a reason she wouldn`t be in this game.

I feel like if the character is female, their chances automatically increase of returning.

I can honestly see the both of them return(hopefully).

Out of the dead 8-9 heroes I can see her return along with Sub-Zero(whether the current Sub Zero is Kuai Liang or not is unknown) and Liu Kang.

Mileena can return, while Kitana should be DLC.

Not sure. Mileena makes more sense to me, she was actually alive at the end of MK2011. I think Kitana has a bigger fanbase though (Seems like it) I think Mileena should come back and they can actually make her important to the story for once. They could just give her an alternate costume that is a blue palette swap of her standard outfit for the Kitana fans ;)

Probably have to say I'd want Mileena over Kitana. Mostly because I'm dying to see pretty much ANY other Mileena than the one in MK9. Older, wiser, and more cunning. Yeah, MKD Mileena, something like that.

I would happily welcome the return of both, though.

I'd say both. I'd lean towards Mileena being in the game ahead with Kitana being DLC.

I'd rather have both because its turning into a sausage fest at the moment.

Mileena was alive at the end of MK9 but if there's some kind of power struggle for Outworld she'd probably be one of the first people killed. I'm not putting much stock into dead or alive at the end of MK9 for guessing returning characters right now.

Kitana, probably. A lot of people like her, a lot of people know her too.

Oh definitely Mileena. As others said, she survived story mode. And though death means nothing overall in MK, it does seem to matter as to who gets cast into the next game (see Deadly Alliance into Deception).

But Kitana (aaaaand hopefully Jade, *fingers crossed*) will most assuredly be DLC. She's an iconic character.

And think about this y'all: with the dead characters allied with the Netherrealm, and Boon mentioning cameos in story mode (albeit of an unspecified type), and this being a new game graphically....they pretty much have to make new character models for the deceased. From there, making them playable would probably not take much time. They're probably play testing them right now.

And who the heck else would they make DLC besides the dead? They could do a post-Trilogy character (and I hope they do), but those characters wouldn't sell nearly as well as the old icons. "OH SHIT! I CAN GET KITANA NOW? TAKE MY MONEY!"

This is their plan, I know it.

If neither of them are on the game, for 100% sure they will be DLC, so in the end both will be in.

That's something they'll definitely do and have done for the past two games but it really only works for popular albeit neglected characters. Characters that they can kind of get away with not having in the game without people being too WTF. Rain, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Kenshi etc.

So, with Rain already denied, who would it be this time around?

It'd have to be a character in demand but someone they could fudge not having in roster proper. Smoke? But maybe his fan base is too big. Jade?
