I think there's still potential for him to reclaim that though. Any villain worth their salt can make a good comeback and Kahn did it before. He survived the Deadly Alliance's attack by cloning, reclaimed his allies and booted Mileena off her perch. Then went on to win the battle of Armageddon. Even though MK9 showed Kahn at his weakest, it also opened up with him at his strongest, showing that of all the good and the bad, he was the victor at Armageddon. I think there's always gonna be a way for Shao to return as the biggest threat, but he had to have that big failure in MK9 in order to up his ante in the future.


Great idea for a thread. This forum can get so cluttered and threads disappear so quickly it's good to have like an open chat thread. My current thoughts are how I'm not really feeling Ermac's second fatality. It's beautifully shot with the entrails floating along so gracefully but I like the fatalities that are also comedic or clever. That one just feels long, drawn out and disturbing in the wrong way.

The Jax/Sonya thing has been apparent since MKvsDC, I loved their relation in that game, much better than MK9.And I think Sonya fits better with Jax than Johnny.

I agree they made him evil for the sake of being evil and it made him one note, he became bland. Btw, I know its not fairly popular here, but has anyone ever seen the MKConquest episode (I think it's the last 2 episodes) where Shao Kahn was revealing his plan to Raiden. Now that was an intelligent Shao Kahn. He was always one step ahead of Raiden. I also like how Shao Kahn sort of mourned Kitanas death. That made him feel human. All around best portrayal of Shao Kahn imo.

In the original timeline he really loved Sindel and Kitana, that's another thing that added more to his character.

To be fair, he now has the perfect story to come back. If he somehow finds his way back to life, he'll know he was used and he'll be aiming for Quan Chi. Then we can get the real Shao Kahn back.

Am I the only one who had failed to properly caracterize Kung Lao as a kid? English not being my first language, I had misunderstood his bios and assumed he was a playable version of the Great Kung Lao. I guess the first movie didn't help, with Liu Kang being a descendant too. Then I guess at some point I understood he was a real character, but I always saw him a brooding-hiding-in-the-shadows kind of character because of how he looked.
When he showed up in Shaolin Monks as kind of immature and making fun of Liu Kang and calling Kitana his girlfriend, it took me by surprise.
Then when he became an inexperienced young brash fighter in MK9, he pretty much was NOTHING like I imagined.
Everyone else was exactly as I thought they would be.

God, I think you're right. At first I thought I was just naturally and understandably put off, but I don't feel it was a positive feeling overall. I think they sometimes forget there are some real human-looking, non-monstrous characters in their game, and shit might get a little too intense... I might faux-rage-quit any fight I lose to Ermac as Sonya. "AAAHHH!!! NOPE!"

My memory is failing me in trying to recall their interactions in MKDC; Gonna re-watch that too, painful as some sequences may be. But yeah, poor Jax has been trying for a while. Maybe Sonya didn't want it to seem like she was trying to sleep her way to the top. Or maybe Jax just isn't her type. Or he didn't try hard enough! God knows Johnny humiliates himself for years and helps her in countless occasions before she lets him spend a night in her base

I always wonder about what would have happenned if new characters had appeared in prior games. One prominent example would be what would have changed about MK if Kotal Kahn made his debut in MK1 instead of MKX. It is obvious that Kotal Kahn is the most popular newcomer by some way, judging the reception he has recieved, so would Kotal be the most popular character in MK if he had appeared in MK1? Maybe. For me he is just blocked by Scorpion because I grew up with Scorpion and that will never diminish. Would Kotal be a staple of the franchise? I think definately. He could have effected the story in so many ways as well. It is interesting to me.

I miss the days when Baraka's clothes were held together with the spines of his enemies (MK: Deception) and not an ass of ropes.

Sonya's moves aren't logical. like, at all... i know this is just a game, but it bugs me. especially her xray, and that one move where she wraps her body around them and they Magically flip up into the air... wut.

Agreed. This game is really treading some dark territory with some of these Fatalities, as well as the Fatalitied.
