Lol IIRC I saw a lady on TRMK getting really worked up because people were saying Jade was black lol the thread title was "Jade is NOT black" like this person was clearly bothered at the idea of people thinking she was black. Idk it was just wild to me that this person (seemingly) would like Jade less if she was officially stated to be "black"

Looking past race usually means not negatively stereotyping people because of their racial background.

Being bothered by a lack of non-white characters in many entertainment mediums, such as video games, is not contradictory to that sentiment at all.

This is the problem with all of that Stephen Colbert, "I don't see race/color" stuff. People say that, but what ends up happening is you get stuff that is overwhelmingly white and lacking in diversity. And I can tell you as a Sociology major it is a fact that we are shaped as individuals by the culture we are surrounded by, and it sends a bad message with how people of color are underrepresented in entertainment. Often when non-white characters are featured there is a tendency for them to be underdeveloped, a stereotype or just serve as a plot device for white characters or some kind of sidekick character.


You can't totally ignore race. In an ideal world, you could. It technically isn't even real from a biological standpoint. From a biological standpoint there is no such thing as "race"; unfortunately though it is very much real as a sociocultural construct. And when ignore it, things have a tendency to favor the culturally dominant group in a society and exclude others.

The mockery of the terms is usually pretty intellectually barren and childish. Sorry, but I'm a social sciences major and this stuff is kind of my wheelhouse. I get tired of seeing stuff that comes out of real research and academic study being mocked by people who don't understand it.

Hells to the yes. In all seriousness i grew up in a town that is the epitome of melting pot, and it upsets me that mk doesn't have much diversity in it's characters. And yes ferratorr, i threw around done racial slurs, but i don't use the n word or anything to that extent, so please just chillax. This website is for having fun. I've been coming here since mk gold was just released for the dreamcast, in fact i still call this mk5.org. I know the rules and i know the boundaries.

In all seriousness, more black characters would be nice, as long as whoever was training with Jax was just a deciple and not a relative.
