Your amazing sig just made them go and put Jason in a MK game finally!

This is lame, if Jason has to be in a MK game it needed to be MK9. Everyone wanted him then bc of Freddy but his time has passed.
Now this means Predator or Spawn won't be making the cut bc of boring Jason.
Ugh...

What? People wanted Jason in MK2011 long before they even announced Freddy! I(like many people)didn't need Freddy in the game to justify Jason. That's bullshit! FYI, there was 10 Friday the 13th movies before that romp Freddy vs Jason came out. Sorry, I've just heard this before and it bugs me every time.
Can someone who's really pumped about Jason's inclusion explain to me why that is so? I'm not being cynical, I'm genuinely asking. I know very little about the character, and that, coupled with my instant distaste for guest characters, makes me a sad panda this day.
Dude, I'm sorry to hear that!! I'm really attached to my pet, I'm guessing you must be having a very rough time right now. Dammit...

Jason is soooooo stupid. If we have to have guest characters couldn't they at least be good ones like spawn or mad max?

Maybe because we actually know about the character? I think that's obvious. We're horror fans and Jason is a well known horror icon. That's pretty much it.
I myself isn't happy having two guest spots being wasted on Non-MK characters, but it's tough titties, we knew it was going to happen, had enough warning, and just gotta deal with it.
I just pray we get more Kombatants as DLC and only two guests.

Congratulations to Shinnok,Kenshi, and camp counselors fans everywhere(myself included)
I really hope I can download the compatibility update with the street pass, without downloading Jason. I tried that strategy last time but Freddy appeared when I tried to get the update without him.
It's not a big thing, but I'd rather stay in my MK fantasy world without classic horror icons popping up to break my immersion with the world. Oh well, at least the opening interactions could prove interesting.

... I don't feel you comprehended what I wrote. I wasn't confronting people who like Jason, rather I was admitting I know very little about the character and genuinely wanted to know what about him is exciting. Your statements of "tough titties" and "deal with it" are wasted on me, I'm not that kind of user.
Anybody else have a minute or two to give me a proper response?

I grew up with the films, so that's a big factor. Mortal Kombat, Superheroes, and Friday the 13th are 3 of my favorite franchises throughout my life.
Why I like the character, besides just nostalgia...
I really like his look, the menacing visuals, the iconic mask, his presence, the way he moves...everything just jumps out at you. Nothing about him would I consider just "bland" personally, but that's all personal taste of course. He just has a design throughout each film, as well as mannerisms, that I find very striking.
His backstory is great, IMO, as I love a sympathetic tragic backstory such as his. He was a young boy, innocent, who died due to careless teenage camp counselors who were too busy having sex etc. Which definitely makes you feel for him, nobody likes to see someone go at such a young age like that. He was picked on by the other kids on top of that, due to his deformities, and not being all there mentally. So his mother sought revenge, and was beheaded in the process, to which Jason apparently witnessed. So he was all alone, left to survive in the woods.
Obviously there's a good deal of inconsistencies and continuity errors throughout the franchise, but the backstory is there.
It has also been teased and hinted at that he doesn't harm children. He has boundaries. Although, in Part IV he did try and attack Tommy, but this is the only instance of such behavior(like I said, inconsistencies). But I love the idea that he doesn't bother harming children, and just focuses on the type of teens who caused his death, and any other people who get in his way.
He's very territorial, very rarely the aggressor. He doesn't make it a habit to go off of his land to slaughter people, he just doesn't want anyone near his lake.
The inventive ways he kills his victims, if you're into horror/slasher movies, definitely adds to the fun factor of the character. It's not just a simple decapitation or stab in most cases, he likes to use various tools, but he usually makes it quick. He doesn't torture in most cases, he stalks, very methodically, and picks his spots. Though, he is a sucker for toying with his prey through scare tactics.
Overall, he's just a fun, sympathetic character that although he's the evil bad guy, you can't help but feel bad for him due to his past.
I definitely reccommend watching Part IV, 6, 7, Freddy vs. Jason, and the reboot if you are interested, or at least some reviews on the films. Cinemassacre has some nice short ones, about 6 minutes each, that James just put up last month and this week.
ProfesserAhnka Wrote:Sorry if my initial response came off nasty- I just find it odd you fail to understand why some people are excited. You pretty much answered your own question. We know about him, you don't- that's why we're excited.
No, I didn't answer my own question, because I don't know about the character, so I can't give myself the information I asked for. From my first post, I've been trying to get someone who enjoys him to just briefly break him down for me, from a fan's perspective. I'm wanting to give a character I don't know a chance, beyond my initial distaste for him being a guest.
And your posts are still coming off as nasty, so at this point, it's best we just disengage. We're obviously not two people who can have any productive interaction with each other.

I appreciate the info. Even not having watched the movies and not being very aware, I do admit that the stylistic method of horror he employs (stalker in the shadows, silent) is a big plus for me. I can't stand Freddy's showmanship.
I'm gonna give the reboot a go in the next couple days.

Also, if you can find the documentary "His Name Was Jason"(1 Hour 30 Minutes), it's shorter than the more recent "Crystal Lake Memories"(7 hours), and that covers the whole series leading up to the reboot. It's a great way to kind of get a grasp on why so many people like the character, and why it has somehow stood the test of time.

There ya go.
Not the BEST quality as it is bootleg but watchable. If you want full quality you'll probably have to pay. You can stream it on Youtube for like 2 or 3 bucks I think.

Same here, big fan of Friday The 13th from long time ago,got one of the box sets with Friday 1-8,he was rumored for MK9 but it was either scrapped or not part of that game at all,so the inclusion of Jason in MKX is a big plus for me and many others, the hockey mask alone is a fucking icon of pop culture.

Yeah, that was the one I was gonna post, but the audio is noticeably off. But it is certainly better than nothing if that doesn't bother you. It was a nice documentary, even came with a free ticket to see the movie when the reboot came out. The Crystal Lake documentary is even more awesome, but unless you want to sit for 7 hours watching a documentary over the entire series(it's amazing, but I can't imagine anyone but an already diehard fan sitting through it), His Name Was Jason is definitely the way to go. It covers a lot of the pop culture the character has been featured in over the years as well(video game, comics, T.V. shows etc.).
Another important part about Jason, along with the nostalgia, is if you watched him when you were younger, he really scared the crap out of you. And when someone/something has that power over you to inhibit such an emotional response, it's going to leave a lasting impression.

It has a lot to do with us being long term fans of the character. I have enjoyed Friday The 13th since I was a little kid, and MK has been my favorite game series since I was a kid as well so to see Jason in MK is just amazing.
If you ever get the chance, I recommend watching all of the movies from the very first one to the most recent 2009 reboot. Who knows, you might become a fan :) (Watch the Halloween series too though, they are also amazing)
@[Killswitch]: Damn dude im really sorry to hear that, and I know its hard. Last new years and month after I lost two dogs that have been part of my lives since I was 6 years old, I was 20 when they died and it was devastating man, it was literally like losing a family member, hell they were family members.
I'm really sorry man, that shits tough.
