I guess to answer the question at hand.

I would still buy the game even if Cyrax was confirmed to not be on the game. I mean I have my favorites just like everyone else, BUT I'm a fan of MK itself.

Implying if a character was or wasn't in the game we wouldn't buy? That's stupid.

To answer your question, yes. I'd buy it if just Scorpion and Sub-Zero were confirmed and the rest was secret.

Mortal Kombat is Mortal Kombat. Even if my favorite is out. I very much enjoy the story, fatalities, gameplay, lore, characters, etc. as a whole over my one favorite character.

Absolutely. Its the newest MK. My favorites haven't been confirmed but even if they aren't before release or if they don't make it in the game there are plenty of other characters that I can't wait to play as.

Bingo.

I dislike this idea that just because someone is content with what we have gotten and a fan of the series overall, that it's assumed that that favorite character must already be in or is likely to be in.

Cyrax is my favorite and I will buy this game regardless of the fact he likely won't be in and is possible DLC.

I don't buy the games based on the roster.

As soon as I saw the announcement, I decided I would Day 1 buy it. Like with every MK game I bought

Also it would be a nice surprise to see the hidden characters, even though I wanna see the roster before release lol.

I would buy it anyway because what I've seen is enough for me to ensure a day 1 buy, the quality is outstanding and the effort put into it remarkable. However, I wouldn't judge if someone based their decision on whatever aspect of the game they like, including the roster, I freaking hate this group mentality that dictates everyone should buy a MK game for the same reasons, because is MK, and if you don't you're not a fan or a hater or some stupid shit like that.

I find it a bit jarring people wouldn't get something they would otherwise enjoy if their favorite character was in. Does that character not being in really take away from the game? It's still going to be a fun game.

I'm not saying they are not fans or are haters, but I find it sad that people would deprive themselves of a great game for such a trivial reason.

Well, that's sort of the point, they're not depriving themselves of a great game because it isn't great to them, because the character make up isn't trivial for some fans.

And it doesn't have to always be so extreme as "no fav character no buy", some people have different expectations for the roster and others, like myself, for the story and writing, these expectations are pretty evident on the board itself. Finally, isn't feeling sad about others not buying a video game a little too much?

Although, to be honest, I believe only 1% or less of the fans that claim they're not going to buy the game, because of X reason, are actually going to be true to their word.

Pretty much this. The next time I have the money to buy a game, it will be MKX. Everything I've seen has been awesome, so why wouldn't I?

Here's my two cents;

It can feel a bit like a mob mentality. We're all here because we all love MK for our own reasons. But if there's any reason what-so-ever that someone, anyone of us, wouldn't want to buy an MK game, who are any of us to call that person out for it? They have their reasons they don't want to buy it like we have our reasons we do want to buy it. The argument that you're a fan thus you must buy it is silly and ridiculous.

I have passed on many things where I love the franchises but just simply refused to give my money to them because I felt I wouldn't enjoy the experience for my own reasons; I love Star Wars but I refused to go see the prequels because I felt they would suck without the original cast. I know a lot of people liked them and a lot of people hated them. I personally hated them when I finally got around to watching them on TV years later and was glad I didn't go see them in theaters. I passed on Gears of War Judgment because Marcus Fenix, to me, is Gears of War. Same with Halo, I passed on ODST and Reach because no Master Chief.

At the end of the day, it all comes down personal preference and no one here has the right to say what someone should or shouldn't spend their money on. I love MK to death but I'm not gonna go out and blow my good hard earned money on Annihilation on Blu-Ray simply because it's MK. The same can be said for any of the games, including MKX, whether anyone here likes it or not. If someone's character is sitting out, or they don't like who all is returning, or they don't like where the story is heading despite the graphics and the gameplay, then they shouldn't feel ganged up on just because they refuse to cave and buy it despite their fears of not enjoying the product for those reasons.

I'll just end my rant with this; my friends pressured the shit out of me and called me insane for not buying a copy of Red Dead Redemption when it first came out. A year later I finally caved after a year of them going ON and ON about how beautiful the game was, how great the story was, how it was Rockstar's best game to date. I bought it, I played it, I beat it and I didn't enjoy it. I regretted my purchase despite loving everything else that company had put out. The reason I didn't enjoy it? I hate westerns. That simple. Call it trivial or whatever, but I just hate westerns and for that reason alone, I feel like I wasted money. So be it because of story, because of genre, because of characters, its all personal preference and thats not reason enough to call anyone out.

With that said, doesn't matter who is in or out for me, I purchased the regular 60 buck version. I'll be getting the MK characters and the guests can screw off. I don't like mixing and matching my franchises together but for those who enjoy it, I'm happy for you guys that you may potentially be seeing the likes or Predator, Jason, Spawn or whoever.
