Someone will say that death in the MK universe doesn't matter, and act as if Kung Lao couldn't just have been included as a what-if character for his fans. Same old shit.

NRS wouldn't have that courage. Believe me, not only will Kung Lao not remain dead, he won't remain old, either, and he'll be fighting alongside his son, and grandson, and great-grandson, all of them the exact same age, in future games.

Implying Kung Lao has a son to begin with.

And yeah, the chance of a character appearing is based on his/her popularity, while death has no effect on it.

Death is a plot device in MK.

It isn't a parting of ways, it isn't a dramatic farewell, it isn't a forever goodbye. It is not the act of one character disappearing from the timeline forever. It has never been.

Nobody. Ever. Stays. Dead. In. Mortal. Kombat.

It's just a fact.

And if anyone out there was sincerely hoping for otherwise, you're doing nothing but setting yourself up for disappointment and you may as well write Iron Maiden to ask when their R&B album is coming out.

I've been all this time scratching my head thinking how there were still delusional players that though the dead characters wouldn't return.

To me it was absolutely obvious from second zero that killing all those characters was done to prepare the next game plot and bring them back.

I guess finally those of us that always knew it now can rest with all the non-sense claims about the dead characters having zero chances to come back.

Even one of the NRS guys recently blatantly admited that Quan Chi is the way they have to keep the dead guys comming.

I expected NRS would at least wait one tittle before shoving the canon up their ass. Poor writing, is just a fact.

Lazy writing and the fact that neither NRS nor the fans can let go of these tired old characters and their tired old storylines. All the pants-wetting about MKX being so revolutionary and a different direction in the series, and yet we're still getting the same old shit.

It just makes all the bitching about the 3D characters even more ludicrous.

They better have a good explanation for his return is all I'm saying. This guy was killed off, plain and simple. He doesn't look dead-ish, under a spell, evil, or anything. He looks like an older Kung fuckin Lao who decided to walk away from a broken neck as if it never happened.

As a Kung Lao fan, I'm surprised and ecstatic!!!!

I find it hilarious that people are freaking out over one character being back from the dead. I mean jesus christ we know NOTHING of the story, and 25 years is a long time for things to happen.

Longstanding franchise plus popular characters plus story focused on a life-or-death atmosphere means a guarantee that death will never mean a goddamned thing to the cast.

I wanted it to, ten years ago. And then I wised up.

M. Bison, Zato, all those Michimas that got tossed into volcanoes (not that I've paid attention to Tekken in ages)...hell, last I heard the KI Devs were looking at Eyedol and Gargos again.

It isn't an MK-exclusive trope. You could really just say "Nobody stays dead in fighting games" period. MK least of all.

It gets better - It really does - once you look at death as an opportunity for a character to change in some significant way, or for their plot to take a new direction, as opposed to some melodramatic final goodbye to cement their place in the canon which will never, ever happen.

Kung looks great. I'm happy for his fans that get him back. I have never been a huge fan of Kung but I can't say I am not intrigued with his playstyle in MKX.

That being said, I am kinda bullshit that he is back. Really ruins my hopes that NRS used the reboot to make a legitimate story unfold.
