Do any of the posters here really think that Johnny and Sonya wont be playable in MKX?

The thing is, the characters who died in MK9 aren't dead dead... their souls are just under Quan Chi's command and he is most likely going to turn them into his own pack of warriors, just like he did with Scorpion and Noob.
Being dead in Mortal Kombat does not mean you are renderless, especially not if they have gone to the Netherrealm. There are SO many ways they could return to fight.
So just because they died in one game is absolutely no reason for them NOT to return in the next game.

I honestly do not understand why people don't get it. Any of those characters can return with ease.

If NRS wants a character to return, dead or not, they're going to make that character return.
Also, I think most of the people saying "He's dead, so he won't return" are just being trolling douchebags because they don't want said character to return.

3. A game with a roster around 30 isn't going to have every single character in MK9 along with over 10 newcomers.

1. Sure it is. People die and come back in this series all the time. We've had resurrections, transformations, zombification, the list goes on. There is zero reason they can't bring someone back if they feel like it. Happens all the time.
2. Too late, it routinely makes a habit of resurrecting the dead. All the time. This isn't Game of Thrones (thank god); point in fact it's fair to say the amount of cast members who have died and come back in later games may actually outnumber those who never have. Want a good comparison for how the dead are handled in this series? Think Dragonball.
3. It probably won't, no. But if they're not present, it won't be because they died, it'll be because the staff decided the character wasn't necessary for this go-around. That's all.

Cage and Sonya almost konfirmed:
"While Boon assured me the inclusion of characters like Cassie Cage in no way means her parents Johnny and Sonya won't be playable, as he reckons interaction between parents and their offspring is one of the most exciting possibilities of such a wide timeframe, the focus here is very much on new blood."

I find a lot of the negative biased posts in here very sad and also hilarious:
1) Your favorites were killed off in the canon. Well, that's neither Sonya's nor Johnny's fault. Deal with it.
2) They were the only two chosen survivors of the last major game. Chosen above all the others. Deal with it.
3) They defeated your favorites in canon Kombat. Deal with it.
4) They are two of the most popular icons and legends of the series. Deal with it.
Why the hell would they not return? They survived hell in MK9! Why would they be "wasted" spots? Because your Edenian-gang or Ninja-Invasion have far less chances?
Of course we still don't know if they will be in the game 100%, but, at this point, it is very very likely that they will, and honey, they deserve it. If they don't make the cut, oh well, life goes on (and so will Cassie ).

As if your posts aren't any more biased in the direction of Sonya, god forbid.
I think it was Jaded-Raven that said something about the spots not being wasted on the parents Cage, just that they'd want other characters in those spots. I'm on those lines as well. Is it likely they appear? Yes, because as queve so diligently mentioned, they survived MK9. But as everyone else has been pointing out, life and death doesn't matter in the MK universe...just ask Johnny Cage.
Fortunately I really don't give a shit, because my favorite character is already in, and is actually a true icon of the series.

Sub-Zero is my favorite, and I'd put both Scorpion and Sub-Zero above them in terms of being icons.
The whole MK1 cast is above everyone else though, but I wouldn't say JC and Sonya are at the very top.
All of the originals from MK1 are iconic. Period. Leads in the movies, leads in the games, etc.
Nut punch. Leg grab. Kiss of death. These are iconic fighting game moves.
None of Sonya's signature moves are being used by Cassie. Cassie is different from Sonya in the same way Sindel is different from Kitana. We don't even know what Sonya is going to look like yet.

They're more similar thematically than Kitana and Sindel who you wouldn't even know had a connection if they hadn't told us. Cassie is different from Sonya in the same way Sindel is different from Kitana.
In fact until MKDA there was nothing remotely similar between Sindel and Kitana. Cassie already reminds people of Sonya.

And MKDA made them similar? How?

I'm not sure if they will be returning or not. A lot of the users here have brought up good reasons as to why they may or may not be returning. I personally wouldn't be mad if Cage and Sonya were not in MKX. I want to see Ermac return, id like to see Noob return, id like to see Reptile return im really curious as to what his design will be like this go around since he changes so much (Assuming he is returning) Id like to see Reiko and Fujin in MKX as well.
Anyway I think there is a good possibility they might return, they are klassic characters that have been here since day 1 so it wouldn't be that crazy to assume so, not to mention they were both alive at the end of MK2011. I personally would just like to see them make unplayable cameo's in the story and have them as DLC so their hardcore fans can have them.
