Darrius: who else besides me wants wants him back?
Darrius is imo another one of those unfairly underrated characters. I think he's got some potential.
His MKD story completely confined him to Seido, so I'm interested in the kind of role he might play if he was more involved with the rest of the MK universe, how he'd interact with both the heroes and the villains. He was a grey character, morally speaking, and I'd like for him to remain so if he came back. I know it's a bit much to hope for the writers to make him something more than a straight-up secondary villain, but if they could just put a little effort into his story, it could be interesting.
He needs a more individual moveset, as all he's got that's really his is that turquoise projectile and a rather distinctive way of throwing it. That turquoise energy should factor in many of his moves, like it did in MKD. I think his gauntlet blades could become his trademark weapons, like Jade's staff and Kabal's hookswords.
I liked his design, and a new one shouldn't deviate too much from it. Keep the glasses, at the very least. I know some thought he looked like a black Gordon Freeman, but that's what set him apart, design-wise.
Finally, his "body reconstruction" fatality. On one hand, it'd suit Havik nicely (and he should definitely have it if he returns and Darrius doesn't), but on the other hand, it's nice that Darrius has something this unique that belonged to him. But regardless of who has it, I'd like to see how it'd be done in MKX, and there could even be an X-ray'd version of it.

I'd rather Dairou before Darrius.

I like his design too but, like you said, he needs a more unique style and moveset, with that almost any of the forgotten characters could be interesting. All the characters from Seido were wasted, imo. They could have done so much more with them.

theres nothing interesting that sets him apart from Jax, Cyrax or Kai.... if he comes back, i hope they completely redesign him and his moves.

Pfft... Darrius LOL.
No way in hell he's better than any MK2 character Chrome. I'm sorry, but just no.

I like him better for all his flaws than any other sacred cow the majority wishes to worship.
And there is only so much MK5 calisthenics I can go through before I get a bit queazy, so I say this: it does not matter. It never had.

Darrius is better than one character, well any character is better than Kitana!

Its not necessarily a weak concept, just weak execution. Guys that are wholly dedicated to shifting the balance between order and chaos have to have more importance in the story. Darrius just didn't fit that bill. Dude was a boring grunt, who had a weak story thrust upon him to make him seem like he was important. He was there to up the order realm quota, nothing more.
That being said, MK9 proved that everyone deserves a second chance.
Gripe* how in the hell is the order realm having trouble keeping order? Once again, not a bad premise, just bad execution.

The realms themselves weren't that important for MKD's story, unlike some of their members: Hotaru (Onaga's personal guard) and Havik (the guy that led the heroes to Onaga's location and also had something to do with the Black Dragon's new philosophy).
He's the only character I truly hate in this series. I hated his story, his appearance, his moves... pretty much everything.
If they can find a way to not make him a jumbled mess, I'll probably come around to liking him. But, for right now, I don't want to see him return unless he has a crucial part to play in the story.

Chrome, what flaws make you like him enough to prefer him to all new characters from MK2-MK4? Just curious.
For me, I like the fact that he's a leader of a resistance movement, so to me, he's not just a grunt. I also like that he's a gray area character. In a series where so many characters are either completely good or completely evil, he's an extremist, but he's also a tactician to the point of being a self-professed "schemer." What an awesome foundation for a character!
But on the downside, I really dislike the order vs chaos plotline and both his outfit and moves are completely generic.
However, I'd be a hypocrite if I thought of him as scrap that couldn't be salvaged since Kira is in the exact same boat for me and I still see a character with a ton of potential there.
His story can take him along a different path with different characters and his look can easily be improved. The moves... I'd say ditch them entirely. Blank slate. Use the opportunity to give him a new, unique style. No ice skater spin kick, rushing fist or bland projectile. Rebuild him. Make him better. He's worth it.
