I doubt they'll make a Brazilian character. Nationality has never been important in MK. Not like it is in SF or Tekken where they are actively trying to represent different nationalities.

In no way was I lowering myself to discuss such STUPIDITY as equal representation in a video game. (not attacking you Jaded)

My only point was to note that brazil/south america already has a character from their region in the revealed cast. So why are we discussing it any further. Boon said nothing noteworthy.

Hey here is a thought: Kotal is an aztec (already referred as such by Boon) therefore South america will be in MK in some fashion; most likely will get a shoutout in story mode. Boom done.

I'm Danish. There are no characters in Mortal Kombat that even resembles a Scandinavian stereotype. Do you think if NRS made a Danish character and put him into MK, I would love the game more?

... not really. Because MK is not about that. The characters' ethnicity doesn't matter more than what realm they are from.

If a character is Brazilian, then cool... but does it matter? No.
What if the character turns out to be a complete douchebag? What if his moves are terrible? What if he looks like crap? Those things are more important than him being from a certain part of the world.

This is nothing against Brazil. I feel like this about any character who's concept is based on its nationality. I don't want an Edenian character just to have an Edenian character. I wouldn't want a Shokan just to have a Shokan. I don't want a human character just to have yet a human. I don't want a black guy, an Asian guy, a Scandinavian guy or whatever, just to have a character from that part of the world.

The nationality is a low priority, because a nationality does not make a character.

Do you get what I'm saying?

Superman is an alien. He represents Krypton, if anything. Or all of us, in that he represents the ideal human and humanitarian. Therefor, one needn't a character sharing the same biological ethnicity to be able to relate or identify.

An argument could be made that one shouldn't be identifying with a MK character anyway. They are all pretty savage.

Superman is still a total alien though. #Luthor

It's always funny how agitated people get whenever someone suggests minority characters. You can expect the usual accusations of wanting diversity just for diversity's sake, since, obviously, people who make such suggestions can't possibly want minority characters to also have a great story, design, personality and moveset. Nah, a certain skin color and/or sexual orientation must be all they care for.

If you aren't racist, or bigoted in anyway, then such suggestions shouldn't pose a problem, especially if the person making them didn't act like a bigot, either.

Fun fact: Sonya in MK1 was added so they could have a woman on the roster. Yes, yes, her gender's not all that defines her, but it was still her primary raison d'être in MK1. Not everyone likes her, but she's still hugely popular. Why couldn't a Brazilian character turn out the same way?

But do keep believing NRS doesn't ever think about race when designing human or human-looking characters. Yeah, most of them just turn out to be white for some reason. Heh.
