Tobias chose not to work on mk full time anymore. He pursued a different lifestyle after Tao Feng. Granted he worked with MK9 comic. That's better then nothing.

They don't even need to rely on Tobias. They did a SOLID job with the stories in Deadly Alliance and Deception. I consider both narratives to be the peak of the MK mythos. The MKX comics actually seemed to be going back to that style but idk what the fuck happened with storymode...

Lol , yeah, the guy who created the backbone of the MK series is over rated. MK1 to MK4 will always be the best in the series as far as storyline and characters go.

He appearantly works at Zynga now. still hes a very talented story writer/designer, im sure he still wants to write and design further on MK. i get a sense he's not allowed anymore as a team member.

Yes i remember he left Midway with Joshua Tsui and David Michicich and started a new studio called Gigante. unfortunatly tao fengs gameplay failed.

That's the main reason why he's overrated. People see through rose colored nostalgic glasses from the 90s.

They need to bring back Konquest and get get rid of story mode, that would solve everything.

That is like saying people hate the prequel films compared to the original 3 Star Wars films because of nostalgia. It makes NO sense considering how both trilogies were told. The classic era of both Star Wars films and MK1-MK4 were told and created with character development. The MK reboot and the prequel Star Wars were depended on the past that it didn't do anything new that fill in gaps that at the end didn't matter.


Just because you have better graphics and voice acting doesn't make MK:DA , MK: Deception, Armageddon, MK9, and MK9 any better than MK1- MK4 era. The classic era may have had text bios and ending, but the way it was written has had a more impact full to the series.

Some people however just have the mindset that anything after MK4 is garbage and I find that bullshit.

While Tobias is a great artist and the created the Mk lore, The was the main culprit of the mythologies/special forces fiasco.

Let me explain. For me, Tobias is overrated because his stories were not that good and/or consistent after UMK3. I'm not a huge fan of MK Mythologies, MK4 was a rushed game in every aspect, and MKSF was atrocious.

Tobias left the ship because he didn't want to draw costumes for Scorpion for years to come. He felt exhausted. He stated this in many post-Midway interviews. But his corrupted legacy continued till MK9. It was Tobias' fault that all chicks in MK looked like sluts wearing swimming suits and high heel boots. Thankfully, MKX finally scrapped JT's fetish for females in boots - MKX is the first game that has nothing to do with Tobias in terms of character design.

Tobias is overrated. Boon is the driving force behind the franchise. The best argument is MKX - the game looks great without Tobias. I'm bitching about the amount of stages and the lack of stage fatalities and classic faces, but as I whole I appreciate the game and the leap in terms of quality. On the other hand, Tobias didn't create anything substantial after MK. Tao Feng was a pile of steaming shit - I have no words to describe my disdain against this product.

Tobias is overrated. It's not a fact. It's my opinion and it's well grounded in reality, not pure nostalgia.

The storytelling in mortal kombat has always been terrible, anyone who thinks otherwise is wearing some serious nostalgia goggles. The best game in the series from a story perspective is Deadly Alliance which Tobias had nothing to do with.

Pretty much all of it has leaked at this point, via text or video.

I don't think it's boons fault so much as it is the format of the story mode. It only allows for single path storyline where old mk games had multipath story lines.

MK9 failed in story mode because of the same inhibiting story format.

I wouldn't declare Tobias the Savior of MK. His Post-MK work hasn't really set the World on fire.

I do agree it might be time for some fresh Blood on the creative team though.

I wont be reading past the OP due to not wanting to be too spoiled, but I think it would be amazing if Tobias came back to help with MK, but unfortunately, I don't see it happening ever.
