The new MK universe starts out "Five years" after MK1-3, and some histories are relatively unchanged, but Smoke is human for some reason, Tsung, Baraka, Reptile, Mileena, and Kintaro prevent evil versions of Earthrealm's Champions from taking over the realm, etc.
