We have a new reveal tomorrow during the Streaming..
I guess it will be another MK9 character, most likely, Mileena or Shang Tsung.
We already have 8 MK9 characters confirmed :
Scorpion
Sub Zero
Raiden
Kano
Quan Chi
Kung Lao
Kitana
Reptile

I honestly hope that is the LAST MK9 character we got.. and I do wish no one from MK3 (Sheeva, Nightwolf, Stryker, Kabal, Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, Ermac) shows up on this game..

What do you guys think ??

You forgot Sindel and Motaro in your MK3 list and Ermac wasn't in the initial game.

I'm thinking we will get at least two from that game. Any two of these four I would like are: Nightwolf, Sindel, Stryker and Sheeva. I'd only want Smoke if he were in his cyber form.

I don ́t wanna sound a dick...
But I DON ́T want this game to look like MK9 2.0, you know??
I think there should be space for some MK4-MKD characters (at least 2-3), and new commers.

I'm beginning to think we're getting ALL revenants back. And I'm not against that, at least Sindel would be cool to see comming back as she fits perfectly the variations system, is really powerful (as opposed to Stryker for example who is really cool with the redesign but story wise isn't the kind of threat that Sindel is), could affect multiple arcs (Kitana, Ermac/Jerrod, the throne of outworld war...) and has to redeem herself after the MK9 massacre.

To be honest I wouldn't mind a format like Tekken where all characters return and are polished to keep things balanced and then some more are added game after game.

Maybe now that they have a really cool system with the variations stuff they can use MKX as the base for future games.

Or even what SFIV did and keep implementing over the same game.

From the the bottom of my heart I appreciate you for approving the truth that Queen Sindel will have pretty cool variations. She deserves to be in wow

With who is left from MK9 I'd take Ermac or Kenshi

I don't see what the hell it matters? It's the sequel to a widely acclaimed and popular game that featured these characters.

I get that a lot of you want to change the formula, but it's probably not going to happen. If this game DOES have 30 characters, with 10 new and 20 returning, would you still be really bitter?

I don't get a lot of the love for the MK4-Deception Characters? Not many of them were good. I liked Kenshi and Quan Chi, outside of that none of them really had anything "special" that warrants them a key spot on a tight roster? DLC, sure.

Deal with it. You guys can cry for certain characters all you want, but I'm fairly certain this roster was set waaaaaay back.

How about I put it this way.
1.12 MK9 characters. It is probably going to happen.
2.12 MK4 - MKD characters it could happen.
3.12 new characters It does look like this could happen anyways.
That makes it 36 characters for the main roster.

Urrrghhhhh this happens EEEEEVER time a new MK comes out and all you fools still buy it cause you always speak too soon about "why is this character not in? Why why why, whinge whinge whinge!!" How about you WAIT! It's clear that there will be up to 30 characters in it! If all the olds are brought back you will still have room for MK4 characters and new. Only a handful have been confirmed and you're already calling it MK 9 2.0? lol Christ!

I see no reason not to bring more "MK9" characters back. When people refer to MK9 characters, that spans the first 3 games plus Quan and Kenshi. These characters shouldn't be cast aside, especially the ones who didn't die. I like story progression from game to game.

I'll agree that it'd be nice to have 3-4 from the MK4-MKD debuted characters. But I think the whole reason we have so many lame, wasted, or unnecessary characters is because they kept tossing characters out in favor of more new ones that didn't always need to exist. Thus now we have ~60 characters, some more popular and recognizable than others, and some people just want them all to be equally represented. That's just not how it works.

The hell are "MK 9 characters"???? Why does everybody keep referring the originals as "MK 9 characters"???? The only "MK9 character" is Cyber Sub Zero...

Not to mention all of these MK9 characters are getting fresh new designs, tons of new moves and all new animations. They are basically new characters. The MK9 2.0/Copy paste comments I find really pathetic.

Trilogy characters will always be the base as they contain the characters that the public identifies with Mortal Kombat. Here's a breakdown of which games characters came from starting with MK4:

MK4
MK1: 6
MK2: 2
MK3: 1 (Noob)
New: 7
Didn't count Goro or Meat...
Total: 16 (56% Trilogy)

Deadly Alliance
MK1: 6
MK2: 5
MK3: 1
MK4: 1
New: 10 (Counting Mokap and Blaze)
Total: 23 (52% Trilogy)

Deception
MK1: 4
MK2: 2
MK3: 7 (Counting Noob and Smoke separately)
MK4: 1
MK5: 3
New: 8
Total: 25 (52% Trilogy)

MKX so far
MK1: 4
MK2: 3
MK4: 1
New: 4
Total: 12 (58% Trilogy)

So far, we're not far off of the norm. Assuming we get at least as many characters as MK9 and the percentage stays about the same we should see something like this:

Trilogy: 14 (52%)
3D era and new: 13 (48%)

How I would predict DLC:
1 New character
1 Guest character
2-4 Returning character that didn't make the cut

There are still plenty of character slots left for anyone to make the cut smile

I highly doubt they would have a new character as DLC, unless it's Forrest Fox (knowing that he's dead).

I have to respectfully disagree with you here. We had Skarlet in MK9. Though, that was a new character in a game of all returning characters. Not very relevant in this case.

I feel the chance is there as it's already been said by Shawn Kittelsen that there will be characters created just for the comics. If there is enough interest in those characters by fans, they would be a great consideration for NRS for DLC. Erron Black is a perfect example of a character that has exploded in popularity already even though we don't know if he's actually in the game.

I'm with nightbreed, counting some come as DLC's..if we're lucky enough to get that many characters well fleshed out.

12 Mk4-MKA characters would be totally amazing, I see no reason for them to not add Tanya, Fujin, and Shinnok, as well as Havik and Hotaru since the chaos and order kamidogous were mentioned.

Completely agree with OP. If we get all the revenants back it means less new and post UMK3 characters, then this will be MK9 2.0

13-14 characters MKT (not counting goro). 11-12 new characters. 6 Characters MK4-MKA. 1 Guest character. Forming 32 characters (33 with DLC Goro).

So why single out the MK 3 characters?

Look I get that everyone is "hurt" that another classic character was revealed, but Reptile or possibly a member of his species was pretty much guaranteed. So cutting out all characters from one game in particular to balance the veterans is absolutely uncalled for.

I know everyone (including myself) is wanting to see the new characters, but there is a reason why we aren't getting a new character every reveal. I feel like some character reveals could honestly spoil the story for the comics, and thats the last thing I want.

If you are expecting 12 MK4-MKD, prepare to be disappointed. Same could be said for new characters. And the roster certainly won't have 36 characters at launch.

There will be more MK1-3 characters than 12.

A more realistic expectation would be:

14-15 MK 1-3 characters
5-6 MK4-MKD characters(includes Quan and Kenshi)
8-9 New characters

Total starting roster of 26-29.

If they legitimately cared about not spoiling the story Kitana nor Kung Lao would have been revealed this early.

I agree with this, a very realistic approach to what the final roster will probably be like.

You know if MK had been done this way since MK3. Where all the characters from previous games were included and the roster was gradually built upon. We wouldn't have issues like this.

If we had made it to MK4 had the trilogy characters and then the only new characters were Quan Chi, Fujin, and Kai.

(Shinnok should have been an unplayable new kind of final boss. Not a giant imposing monster like Kahn but a new kind who was sleek and smaller but was a beast to fight against)

Then when we get to DA the only new additions to the roster were - Drahmin, Kenshi, Bo Riacho, and Tanya(would make sense with the war between Outworld and Edenia)

Then for Deception - Hotaru, Havik, Shujinko,

we would be fine by this point! We wouldn't be having these wasted slot debates with every cycle of pre game launch.

If they had just steadily added to the roster with every game instead of going balls to the wall nuts like they did with Deadly Alliance and Deception.
We could have had a sound and ensured roster like every other fucking fighting game franchise instead of this mess.

Keeping the same core roster every game kills any sort of story progression, it gets stale and people get sick of the same old thing over and over again, this is one of the key differences between MK and regular fighting games like SF. In MK, although far from perfect, things actually change. Deadly Alliance and Deception, hell almost every numbered MK name had the balls to try something different and keep things fresh, despite classic fans complains wanting to buy the same product again and again.

Seriously, what MK fan would want MK1, MK1.1, MK1.2, MK1.3, MK1.4, etc. How freaking boring and bland would the MK universe and lore be?

I remember during MKDA when all people wanted was MK3 era characters, then in MKD, when all people wanted was MK4 era characters.

I also remember about six months ago when people were panicking because there were going to be "too many" new characters and old favorites weren't going to come back.

Not pointing fingers at anyone in this threat, of course. Just registering my amusement about how quick the attitude of the community changes.
