That's just Boon responding to someone who misconstrued his earlier comment with a generic comment. Of course we're supposed to speculate who is in and who's not. Has nothing to do with reveals and everything do with them being playable or not.

Honestly, everyone except for Sindel and Baraka. They have the same overall look as they did in MK9. Mileena, Rain, Shinnok, and Johnny had all new outfits.

Now why would they completely redesign some characters and not others?

I'm expecting every redesigned character to be playable. If some of them happen to not be, I'll take that into consideration when evaluating future NRS trailers, but I won't be heartwrenchingly disappointed.

He's Erron Black. The descriptions match up perfectly, and we haven't seen any mystery guys hanging out with Kotal.

I still think we'll still get Ron Tan Cho and Bo Rai Cho to add even more to the Story Mode

And should the past absolutely necessarily dictate, 100%, the way they do things now? Good DLC sales on the whole for the last two games could easily prompt WB to get NRS to try something new this go-around, like a marketing stunt with a new character.

Now, you say "Skarlet sold poorly", but that's only in comparison to the other characters; pretty dang sure all the DLC did rather well on the whole (the game moved three million units, after all) I've never seen actual units for this measurement, just statements that Freddy sold the most, Kenshi was second, Rain third, and Skarlet last, and I think people are assuming that just means she didn't sell well at all. Seriously doubt that's the case.

But let's go with that logic; let's say they looked at the figures for each character and let that dictate their order of release; it'd be logical for them to try and sell guests and returning characters first, and include them as part of the Kombat Pack to maximize their profits as quickly as possible, no? A new character could be given later priority. Also, note that I said 'planned' in advance, I didn't say 'completed in advance'. I believe them when they say they're still working on the DLC characters.

And if we believe Skarlet's sales may have them hesitant to experiment with new faces? Well, what better experiment to gauge interest than by showing him off a few months in advance on the sly and seeing what kind of demand, if any, pops up?

(Yes, I'm very well aware I'm venturing into serious X-Files conspiracy theory here, but marketing people are crafty and scare me. I believe they are the devil.)

Now, that DLC poll also included, as I recall, Tanya, Rain, Cyber-Smoke, a new character, and Kenshi. As a result, we got Rain, Skarlet, and Kenshi. Shinnok didn't place and I don't remember there being anywhere near the demand for him as those other characters or someone new - and how many people are crazy for Tanya? She's got noticeable support and didn't do well enough to place either.

I've been following this series since MK2, and throughout my time on this board, and lurking on others, the name Shinnok has usually been synonymous with disappointment, or at the least severely missed potential. Time may have softened popular opinion somewhat, and he's certainly no Jarek, but very, very few people seem to regard him as a preferred character, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone say he was their favorite boss. I honestly see more people crazy for Sindel.

I highly doubt Rain is just a cameo. He wouldn't be dropkicking mofos off rooftops and have a new highly-detailed design if he wasn't playable.

Hell, he probably wouldn't even be in this trailer.

This is all an elaborate scheme by Lord Boon to throw you off. The same thing happened pre-Injustice. All of these characters will be playable. Well, most of them. Sindel won't be.

All except Li Mei(seems to just be a story advancing npc, is she even Li Mei for sure?), Sindel(basically MK9 look with a few details, she'll probably be fought by someone else in your group while you fight kitana) and POSSIBLY Baraka. But honestly, I'm thinking Baraka has a decent chance, with Mileena's lack of playable allies. And as I've said many times in other threads, there's no way Rain kicks the emperor of outworld off a building and is just a cameo.

Huh, good point. Never thought about that. I'm not getting my hopes up for Baraka, but I hope he's in.

If we take Boon's "5 characters" tweet at face value, that leaves Erron and Shinnok. Given this game's focus on new blood, I think Erron can be given more priority.

If (as I hope) Boon's trolling us with the number, then Shinnok, Erron, Johnny, Sonya and Rain have a chance of being playable.

Baraka was in almost all games, even in the last one over other iconic characters so that should tell you NRS thinks he's a fan favourite or they just like him. However, not much chance in this game because of the lack of a story I guess..

From the trailer it's clear he's a lackey again, so much potential wasted there since Mileena is now prominent. Baraka could feel betrayed, getting his own army, aligning with Goro or Kotal to fight Milenaa OR being the general of Mileena's forces with a new design (bigger, cut by the daggers and with blood shot eyes).

Where did you get only 6? Did you read the title of this thread?

Shadaloo brings up some good points on Erron Black being DLC but...I still think since he's an unknown entity and new character he's going to be included in the primary roster proper. If Erron had more legacy or more of a prominent role in the comic I might feel otherwise but, as it stands, my predictions are:

I just gotta stick Erron,Jacqui,Mileena,Takeda and Kung. Only way Erron wasn't one of those included is NRS created him as a joke/throw away character. Now that he seem to be a hit with fans. They will likely add him as DLC. However I don't think NRS is in the mood to create joke/throw away character with that much detail as Erron has.

I fully expect Shinnok to be playable via DLC later on. Same goes for Sonya and Johnny. In fact I would expect Sonya and Johnny to be in the Kombat Pack. So when Boon talk about these 5 reveals he likely referring to main roster/non dlc characters.

NRS might go a little wild the DLC characters this time around. Injustice might still be 2 years away. Given how Boon said he doesn't want to flood the market with MK games. We are looking another 4-5 year wait before the next MK game. Plenty of time for DLCs.

Moreso than what other companies that aren't NRS do with DLC should dictate the way they do things.

I just find it next to impossible that Erron is a DLC character that won't be released for a while, and I think they'd be advertising the first season of DLC characters that are actually for sure coming out rather than doing this convoluted marketing in and out of the game for something that may not even happen if sales don't do well. Heck, I'm pretty sure marketing would much rather all of this attention be given to a returning character rather than "experimenting."

I agree. They're the new characters we definitely need to know a lot more about than anyone else.

How convenient for them to throw that out now, what character you think was a choice entirely based on his/her role in the story? the revealed choices seem to be based entirely on popularity (not counting new characters since the story was built around them, obviously), imo.
