I believe the slots on the character select screen are not a final count yet.

I feel the same way.

I don't think the roster count is complete. They've said multiple times the select screen isn't final and the game will have roughly the same amount as MK9.

With that said, I think we'll be getting 5-6 more new characters. Then I think maybe 2-3 more characters will be from MK4 and Deadly Alliance. I doubt we'll see anyone from Deception unless through DLC but I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see Havik return. The rest will be returnee's from MK9.

If 24 were the total spots, and

9 confirmed vets
4 confirmed new

3 highly likely new characters from the comic (jacqui, takeda, erron black)
so really 7 new

so 16 taken, 8 spots remain open

1 new
3 mk9ers (mileena, cage, baraka)
4 3d era (tanya, bo rai cho, havik, shinnok)

New charcter select screen had 25 slots(plus an empty space for im guessing a hidden charcter/dlc)

so gives us hope that there will be more than we originally thought

There's always the possibility that, unlike MK9 where Quan Chi and Cyber Sub had prominent placement on the select screen, this time the unlockable characters could be shifted into the "DLC" slot if it is indeed one that maybe shadows over the main 24 or perhaps allows you to just scroll through them mugshot by mugshot.

Shinnok has to be among one of those. Getting close man. Bring on the fallen elder god!

First I thought Shinnok was a given, but with so many classic returning I'm starting to have my doubts.

Agree with this except, please no Baraka. Substitute him for Nightwolf, Cyrax/Sektor, Jade or Sindel. Heck, even Rain.

The select screen is not final. Its obvious they are trying to get more in. I wouldnt be surprised if we ended up with 28. With two being secret characters.

i like the select screen honestly.. i think instead of choosing the the level in boxes at the bottom the snowy forrest backdrop should change. they walk away from each other, the camera pulls out and then they fight. i hope loading screens go away soon lol.

I Know I didn't imagine Boon saying X would have more new characters than any other MK game. Deception had 9 if you count the boss. So there would still have to be 6 new characters.

What if we ended up with something like that, what would be your thoughts? I tried to add in the most heavily rumored and some of the newbies considering some of them may be digital comics only or web series only and not in-game and then kept the idea of unlocking characters through story progression. They would likely be accessed from the DLC slot if the select screen doesn't end up changing on the off chance. Also gives us a roster similar in size to MK9.

The select screen, no matter how many end up being in the final rost, will have to confine to the current 'highlighted' character scheme, with the animation of walking towards the camera, then facing and taunting each other when selected, then walking away.

With that said, not sure how the amount of 'character' boxes could be evenly distributed if its greater than 26. obviously there will be a way with DLC characters, but I feel like 26 characters will likely be the initial roster size, with 4-6 DlC options

If the select screen IS final. I believe all but 2 will be New kharacters (Fujin and Mileena the ones returning)

If it isn't the final select screen and we get more, Fujin, Tanya, Sektor, Smoke. With the rest being new.

My initial guess was 30 Kharacters( 24 starting, 6 unlockable) with 6 DLC( including Goro)

I do think that Shinnok/Shang Tsung/Liu Kang all play major factors in the story, but don't come playable out the box. I think 1 or 2 end up as DLC.

I think Takeda can essentially take Liu's spot.

I really hope he's in but I just feel like he's not gonna be. I just hope they at least make the best of him in the story and he's not just like instantly deceived by Quan and dead.

I doubt that it will ship with just 24 playable characters. I'm expecting more like 28-30.

They added a 25th box, so they can easily add additional boxes as time goes on and we find out more characters. I could see a total of 28 boxes easily with 27 starting characters and the 28th box for DLC.

People who keep thinking we're getting more than 24/25 are fooling themselves. This game is dropping in less than 2 months and they haven't changed the select screen yet. That's an indication that's it WON'T change. So yeah, 11 characters left including the annoying ass spot wasting guest character they'll be shoving in our faces.

They did change it, there's a 25'th slot. That alone gives us more of an indicator that there's more than meets the eye. As I mentioned earlier, if there are characters unlocked via story mode, and all subsequent DLC for that matter, could be assign to that one extra slot. From there, maybe you'd be able to scroll through them mugshot by mugshot. It's not exactly impossible, in fact it's even likely if they wanna keep stuff secret as opposed to just giving them locked spots like they did with Quan and Cyber Sub last time around.
