highest ranking lin kuei member? SPOILERS
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
subby becoming a cyborg instead of smoke
subby becoming a cyborg instead of smoke
gives me the thought that smoke is the higher ranked member.subby hasnt mastered his abilities yet and smoke has already done so around the time lin kuei started the automation of its best fighters.
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
cyber smoke might not exist in the storyline ever again if cyber subby is around the next game.

Sub-Zero gets automated instead of Smoke solely because Raiden saves Smoke from being captured but can't save Sub-Zero.
And Sektor is the highest ranking member, as he's the Grandmaster's son and the only willing volunteer for automation.

just because he's the son and willing means nothing.nowhere does it say sektors the highest ranking because of that.

If everybody but him left the clan and had to be captured, then of course it does make him the highest ranking. Who would rank a defector over the loyal guy?
Besides, Sub-Zero was "Tundra" before he took his brother's name now, so he's not inexperienced at all.
And Sektor takes control of the clan in his arcade mode ending in this game, which is probably not canon because it's an arcade mode ending, but you never know for sure until the sequel.

If Smoke starts it out from a clean slate in the sequel, the new Lin Kuei warriors might become smoke-oriented. I am not sure then whether it's for the better or the worse, however it would surely become better than the Tengu clan at the very least.

Just because the endings pretty much have them all kill Kahn doesn't mean they can't be tweaked to be made canon. Just leave out the Kahn part.
And yes, certainly would be better than the Tengu.

No sub-zero would always be the successor of the Lin Kuei
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
regardless if he gets automated or not, he would always be stronger than smoke. so he'll probably take over the lin kuei anyways. now my question is how would sub-zero find out about the cryomancer race?

Maybe if the next game takes place with the Netherealm invading Outworld, Sub-Zero and Smoke can go with the other heroes and get separated, eventually finding the Cryomancer temple
Just a thought I came up with.

Sub-Zero was the one that stood against Sektor and the Grandmaster title...
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
But now that Zero is a cyborg seeking restoration, Sektor will probably be Grandmaster as listed in his ending... That is until Zero comes back and kicks his ass again in the next game...

Why do you use spoiler tags in a thread that says SPOILERS in the name?
If people a clicking on this thread, they should expect to be spoiled. It's like putting a lock on the lock.
Anyways, from what I can gather of what I've read in the leaks, Sektor does seem to be the one "in command", however, in MK Mythologies it is suggesting that Sub-Zero is the better Lin Kuei assassin. It could spark the rivalry between those two and it might be the reason why Sektor volunteered to get automated in the first place, because he thinks it will help him become the better Lin Kuei assassin.
So with that in mind, I do think Sektor has a higher rank, but Sub-Zero is still seen as the superiour assassin.

Of course, that all depends on what they do do for MK10.
I would like that idea to actually happen if they're making story mode canon, Subbie gets his Cryomancer armor early and then kicks Sektor's ass for the Dragon Medallion, taking over the Lin Kuei, bam. Then gets stabbed in the back by Frost. Cold hard bitch.

I always thought that the Elder Sub-Zero was the highest ranking before he died. He was a loyalist who never liked being called a ninja. He was usually the one picked for dangerous missions for example steal the scroll of elements and try to kill shang tsung. lets not forget he defeated shinnok on his own. If he was still alive he probably would have volunteered being automated first.

That's actually a good point right there. If Elder Subbie hadn't been killed by Scorpion, would he volunteer for the automation?
Like Kahn says, then I actually don't think he would. I think his pride as a top assassin would make him loathe the idea of becoming a cyborg to "enhance" himself. I don't think he thinks he needs any enhancements, because he is already the best! And thus he would probably defy the Grandmaster.
It's only a theory though.

I disagree with the idea of Sub-Zero being stronger than Smoke. Smoke was one of the top two strongest characters in UMK3 and Sub-Zero was mid to bottom tier and around rank fourteen. If you want to argue that Sub-Zero is canonically the better fighter I don't think there is any evidence for that either way. Honestly, I think Smoke is the strongest of the Lin Kuei, but that's just me and my experiences with UMK3.

If he defied the grandmasters that would squash his loyalist persona, but interesting theory.

MK Mythologies is the canon proof that Elder Subbie is the superiour assassin. Sorry.

From all that, all I am taking from it for fact is that.
I would be satisfied if Sektor was in command for a short period of time. I can deal with him being defeated and even Killed after that. (hopefully not)
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Sektor is highly ranked and expected to one day succeed his father. Its forshadowed pretty heavily in his ending that there will at least be an attempt at the commanding position of the Lin Kuei. There is no mention of the Medallion overpowering him like it did frost which means hes taken as powerful enough to handle it at least. Or thats what I gathered. We know from past storylines that he made an attempt, and now it seems to be saying the same. With Subzero sidetracked with his search for resteration, we could see a differenct Scenario unfold. I do, however seeing him return to ultimately defeat Sektor at some point in the future. It seems innevitable.

In rank I would put it like this based on the story from mythologies to mk 3.
1. Elder Sub-Zero
2. Sektor
3. Cyrax
4. Smoke
5.Young Sub-Zero
Again this is from the story throught out the years that lead to my analysis.

True, and Zero's in a dark place right now so he needs time to recover...
But ultimately, what does he do? He always overcomes adversity... No matter if he loses his bro, his friends, his clan, or his apprentice, he'll always come up on top... if it's a fight you want, it's a fight you'll get... Don't fuck with Sub-Zero...
