The whole thing is entirely irrelevant, especially in Mortal Kombat. 90% of the cast could be homosexual for all we know.

It's a fighting game...

Exactly, its not the fact that im straight and 16. But in a fighting it just feels unsettle to me.

To make it more in general I just dont think fighters in (general) should describe stuff like this.

I see smokes and subs relationship like Ryu's and Ken's brotherly.

So does Cyrax.

But seriously. I can't imagine Smoke being gay.

The friendship thing with Sub-Zero. Isn't really evidence. His facial expression when Sub-Zero gets captured. He's worried about his friend being turned into a fucking souless robot.

And Smoke's hair, in my opinion makes him look like a badass.

One thing I don't like about it though is when ever you do one of his Fatalitys, the hair goes over his head. Realy! Terrible animation.

I'm starting to believe Smoke's appearance was an attempt to appeal to anime fans. Ironically, an interest found often among anime fans is... well, gay slash. By making Smoke gay, you almost kill two birds with one stone.

I'm not really against the idea of Smoke being gay. Most of the MK characters aren't really relationship material anyway. Villains, ninjas, priests, and super-natural entities: it's a pretty celibate crowd.

Now the idea of an unrequited love interest with Sub-Zero DOES rub me the wrong way, but let me explain. Friendships tend to be ten times more interesting than your general love relationship, gay or not. That's not a bias or anything; writers simply have more of a creative palette with platonic friendships. The level of formality, closeness, the general knowledge shared between two friends is A LOT more varied, and therefore tends to be more interesting. Sure, you could say elements vary a lot in romantic relationships, but those things are harder to fit into a story, even a romantic story. Some of the most interesting things that occur in love relationships are things that go completely unsaid.

Back to my point, I see all my friends in a very different manner, and although I see my past girlfriends in varying perspectives, the type of relationship was often the same. Sure, personalities vary, but the difference is that I approached those relationships with the same goals and a standard of conduct.

That's not really true of friendship. With friends, my only goal is to respect them and remain friends. I'm not worried about, "what kind of relationship will I have with Matt six months from now? Does John's goals conflict with my goals? How much does Sara really appreciate me?" Therefore, my relationship with my friends (male or female) tends to be more organic, and therefore more interesting. It's a more natural evolution.

Gees, and I wonder why I'm single.
EDIT: Well fuck me, I just thought of an example: "Friends." Not a huge fan of the show, but it's on in the background sometimes when I'm writing. If you watch the show in it's early days and compare that to later episodes when most of the main cast is dating each other, just watch how many dynamics have disappeared between the characters.

I don't really see him being the new gay role model for this game. Even though his friendship with Kuai Liang is a bit peppermint, I don't really see it with him.

I'm sure some people will refer to Smoke as being the new "gay" character. Then again, most MK fans have the maturity of Fourth graders.

Then Smoke melts your insides with one of the most badass fatalities in the game.

Honestly though, the long haired characters in games, especially males get the bishi treatment from fans and such. I'm not sure why, but hell, look at main offender number 1, Sephiroth and all the yaoi he spawned....Ok, bad suggestion.

But whatever I guess. Some people think he might be gay because of his hair, others might think he's gay because he's one of the only characters that can show emotion and inner turmoil for letting his best friend become a machine.

Regardless of Smoke's signs, there is no evidence that Smoke is gay at all, and honestly, it doesn't matter if he is or is not.

That aside, people really need to understand how much it sucks being a gaymer/bimer (lol, bimer...). If there was a moment in Story Mode where a character came out of the closet.....say a moment where Kung Lao stopped Liu Kang during a stressful situation, and out of fear of losing him, kiss him and the two accepted it.....people would riot. Of course, Liu isn't gay and has it for Kitana, but that aside...

Games can never have moments were a gay character can have a romantic interest. MK can easily manage Liu Kang x Kitana, and hint at Cage x Sonya. But if they started having a gay couple? People would riot at how "that sort of thing shouldn't matter in a fighting game!", and as true as that is, that's true for all romantic couples in any fighting game.

I mean, look at Dragon Age 2. People were livid over the fact that the female love interests were limited, the male love interests were frequent, and everyone in the game was bisexual. Fan were furious.

I don't know. It just sucks knowing that if a major mainstream game were to have a gay couple, everyone would shun away.

' EDIT: Sorry. I should be talking about the art too. Um, I'm not a big fan of bishie men. I like my men masculine and built. You know....like Stryker.

As Temp already stated,I think Smoke's current design is to appeal to anime lovers, not gay communities,so I don't think Smoke is new gay character of MK. Don't forget to wait for Rain and see his design.

Proof that Smoke is not gay? His attack on Jade in Story Mode,I mean, his excuse to touch her grinwink

Smoke doesn't really give me gay vibes. He gives me 'doofus' vibes, but not gay. Shang Tsung and Quan Chi give me far more gay vibes, but at the same time, I don't think they'd settle for a relationship at all.

Kabal, before the burns, gave me a bit of a gay vibe. Kano, however, completely gives me a bi-vibe. Just the way he is, he seems like he'd be into everything that walks.

EDIT: OH MY GOD, REIKO! From the little time I've seen him, I got gay vibes from him. Maybe when he comes back, he'll be completely different, but the only person I got more vibes from were from Mavado and Hso Hao.

It would be so pointless to include a gay character merely for the sake of having a gay character. This series has never developed any sort of romances in the stories, straight or otherwise. Mortal Kombat needs to just stay away from it entirely.

Last time I checked, Dragon Age was praised for the romance options. But at least in RPGs, romance can actually mean something. What the hell does it matter in a fighting game?
