Of course I know this isn't actually part of the movie. Geez.
As I said it's been stated by someone seemingly involved with the movie that Kang and Raiden won't be in it. Of course I don't know if that's 100% true or not, but if it is true then it would be a real shame for me.
Anyways, the reason I got most excited about this video was because I was hoping this was the direction for the new game as well.
If it isn't I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it.

I too really liked this video, the only thing that saddens me a little is that apparently Liu Kang won't be in the movie.
Still, it's very nice to see Mk get so overwhelmingly positive attention all over the net. Almost like the good ol days of Mk2/mk3.
If this was actually representative of the new game I think they'd be on to a monster hit with the game.
This vidfeo actually managed to make Mk relevant again.

What if Scorpion met Liu Kang at the tournament and formed an alliance with him? Scorpion was told to kill them all, but what if not all participants at this tournament were bad guys, Kang being one of them? Kang wouldn't even have to be the star of the movie, either, but a supporting role. Of course, the whole monk thing would have to be thrown out. Imagine a Liu Kang similar to Raizo in Ninja Assassin (whom oddly enough goes by the name Rain). There's so many things they could do with this, but nobody seems to have any imagination.
I see it like this: I love Batman. I love the comics, I love the old animated series (which didn't exactly follow the comics), I loved the Batman movies with Michael Keaton (which didn't exactly follow the comics either). But then the movies just got silly when Val Kilmer and George Clooney took over the role (kind of like the MK series). Then Batman Begins comes along and I was blown away. Even more so with The Dark Knight. None of the movies followed the Batman canon exactly. But why should it have to? Point being, just because it's different doesn't make it a bad thing. When all is said and done, I still have the comics to fall back on.

Having read all over non-MK forums and game sites, the response to this movie demo has been overwhelming, unquestionably positive. For the first time in years, people other than us select hardcore are talking about the franchise... and in GOOD ways. After years of mediocre games, irrelevance, and insults, MK has become, dare I say, COOL again.
I hope something like this is the direction for the next MK property, be it movie or game, simply because this promo has generated more good-will and positive buzz than almost anything else related to the franchise in over 10 years.
I'm all for it. It's time for some change. Let's make MK awesome again.

I gotta agree as well. Every gaming or media site that I regularly visit(IGN, ScrewAttack, Gamespot, Shocktilyoudrop, Superherohype...the list goes on), posted an article about this video and almsost all the feedback I saw was positive. People really dug this, and if theres something that can gain MK's popularity back to levels remeniscant of the 90's than I am all for it. I would love to see MK talked about at places besides dedicated MK sites.
The thing is, is that the reason people enjoy the video so much is because of the way it looked(The realistic tone, dark, gritty, and gory), as well as the awesome fight scene between Baraka and Cage. If they can harness those two elements, but make the characters and the story closer to the actual characters and story of the games, then this could be a for sure winner. It make MK cool again as stated above. It could also very well be the best game to movie adaptation.
Regardless if every hardcore MK fan likes it or not, if MK is to become relevant again, it must take bold new steps in order to establish new fans. So if you don't like the idea of making the characters into realistic counterparts, express your dislike towards it, but don't shoot down the idea of the movie being shot in this sort of fashion altogether.

Looks more like SAW than MK.
Quite frankly i would rather watch two angry swans having sex.

This is exactly the kind of gritty realistic reboot MK has been waiting for.

I am tired of this bashing.
(a) its not official
(b) its a bold new take
(c) its getting people talking MK again
(d) its getting a lot of non fans interested
(e) its plausible
(f) great fights
(g) 8 minutes .. you dont know if the mythology is there or not
(h) its something.. ask X-Men fans if they were happy with those movies, ask Wolverine fans.. there isn't a market for mythology and magic in today theatre.. MK is a cult thing.. you need to capture a new market too..

Going through people's comments on other sites...and most casual fans really like the idea of a realistic approach. It's very interesting and exciting reading other non-hardcore MK fan's thoughts on this.
This is pretty common though...I mean with every super hero film such as Spiderman, X-men, Batman etc., the hardcore fans are always the most judgemental and critical, and usually bitch and whine about changes to their beloved characters. With good reason and right of course, but it's nice to read the opinions of outsiders for a change.
So it's at least great to see MK being talked about again for once. We'll see where they take the new game...

The fact that Reptile is a serial killer that keeps heads in his freezer might be a bit of a hint that it has 0% mythology. Hopefully they don't just try to maximize profits and make it like every other generic gore film, ie; SAW, Hostel, etc, etc It would be cool if they just make a follow up movie to the original and forget Annihilation ever happened.

Technically the Outworld forces are aliens. Just not the green-grey-H. R. Giger type aliens, but aliens nonetheless.
This looks to be promising: if they receive enough feedback the final product may go either way. I hope for the grit and raw coreographed fighting, but less urban decay.
Now....if Outworld is real in this instance, imagine what those people could get turned into: Baraka, Reptile...
Thank God, Reptile is not a ninja.

I'm not sure i would call them aliens if they are from other realms/dimensions, more like invaders.

Great.
Anyways, i'm doubtful anything good will come out of a new movie, as they have to cater to the masses, and the masses are basically idiotic sheep, easily entertained, looking for cheap thrills, etc

In other words, people who haven't kept up with or invested in the MK series in 5-10 years think it would be a good idea to scrap it from the bottom up and replace with a Saw knock-off.
Let's just say it out loud: casual people want MK to conform to current Hollywood trends. Of course people will support it! Pump anything with mainstream trends, and people will flock. Sure, it will make the movie marketable, but it will also turn it to a badly-aged piece of crap.
A few years ago, they made a Doom movie without demons... and most of my friends thought it was "okay." Therefore, I really don't care what these people think.

Like MK1? Come to think of it, the 90's brought us such jewels as ninspoiltation, bloodsport.... anti heroes, mindless violence without artistic merit.... hmm.
